Persona 5

And then you strike a pose, that makes the priest question your sanity.

I agree though, Yusuke had a really good social link and his character was truly amusing.

On the other hand, Ryuji acted like a moron for 90% of the game, giving me plenty of facedesks. WHY DID YOU SAY IT OUT LOUD, YOU IDIOT.

Morgana had good character development and you could see how his heart changed over the course of the game.

Haru seemed tacked on, at the very last moment. She needed more screentime, though her social link was quite good.

Futaba made me burst out in laughter at her commentary and potrayal of others - mishima npc.

Overall I loved most of the characters, except maybe Ohya and shinya oda.

I almost never picked the serious options if there was a joke option too. At least in this game they were actually funny unlike FO4's "sarcastic" options.

Meow?

Although some of those options do not help in getting confidants up.

That said on my current playthrough, I intend to fuse best personas in game and beat the shit out of all the bosses on my own.

Hard, Caroline and Justine solo. This is exciting.

The first Confidant I focused on finishing was Toranosuke (the politician) since I wound up liking the guy and the story around him. Something about a person trying to atone for their mistakes and legitimately attempting to redeem themselves was appealing to me and Toranosuke being a likeable character helped. He's one of my favorites.

Honestly I liked many of the Confidants here. I had fewer gripes with the Confidants than the SLs of P3 and P4 though that said I do have those gripes.

Makoto's Confidant story probably was weaker due to her actual arc continuing in the main story with
her sister's Palace and her attempts to restore her sister's idealism.

Eiko is still an idiot through and through.

Ohya's Confidant story is probably the weakest one to me though there is a nice tie to the main story in her route (plus her Confidant ability is the most useless). At least Shinya's Down Shot has its uses.

Still, I did want to see each Confidant story progress and reach it's so there's that plus for the writing there. I also liked how Mementos was implemented into some of the Confidants

With the NG+ item from Lavenza and a lot of money, go forth and make that ultimate Yoshitsune or Satanael. Or something... I'm thinking of a super Pixie at some point just for laughs.

A super Pixy with Megidolaon? You trynna make a Nocturne reference? I can dig that.

I see a lot of hate for Ryuji but I actually liked him a lot. Sure he is a moron but he has a good heart, even if he bickers a lot with a cat. I mean, one of his mementos conversations with Yusuke is to offer to hang out with him and buy him a beefbowl after Yusuke casually (and comedically) states that keeping a low profile at school is easy for him because nobody talks to him to begin with. Boy has a heart of gold.

Okay, tried to beat Reaper with Yoshitsune with most absorbs and repels (except fire and guns). Got my ass handed to me on a silver platter.

My advice, do not rely on an Ali Dance/Angelic Grace. The RNG is a bitch in this game. Firm Stance is much, much better.

Still, I wanted to share some of the builds I intend to use, here you go. Feel free to point out flaws and voice your opinions:

Shiva (Money Maker)
-4 Absorb Skills (those he does not have).
-Pulinpa (confuse)
-Confuse boost
-Instaheal

Angel (Megidoloan, mob clearance - item the reaper drops).

-Absorb Curse
-Almight Amp.
-Instaheal.
-Spell Master.
-Firm Stance
-Megidoloan
-Absorb Physical
-Victory Cry

Shiisa (better than yoshitsune):

-Absorb Curse
-Gigantomachina
-Ali Dance
-Frei skill - confidant (can be replaced).
-Absorb Physical
-Instaheal
-Arms Master
-Firmstance

Satanael (utility/tank):

-Victory Cry
-Instaheal
-Salvation
-Heat Riser
-Ali Dance
-Concentrate
-Charge
-Firm Stance

I take it this is for a Merciless solo run? For your Angel build, you may want to try finding Almighty Boost if it stacks with Amp (I think it did in P4 but I don't recall if it stacks in P5).

If it does stack, I know what to add to my super Pixie. :wiggle:

Yeah, I don't get why he gets so much hate from some people for being an idiot since that is the point with his character; that he's an idiot. A good-natured and likeable idiot but an idiot nonetheless (though I predict flanderisation in future spin-offs).

I like him too since he is a person with a heart of gold and does mature past his initial idiocy over time (though never truly loosing it to retain his overall character). He's just not as savy, knowledgeable or subtle as his companions (based on his loud proclamations of being a Phantom Thief among other things).

I wish this had happened in my game

Persona 5 Crimson should have more scenesthat react to your choice of Lady(s).

I found new favourite build that works against almost anything.

Take Satanael and give him those skills:

-Regenerate 1
-Regenerate 2
-Regenerate 3
-Firm stance
-Instaheal

The rest is not important. Just put on Divine Pillar

Now the reaper becomes much more manageable.

Well, I think that some of the social links could be much more developed or took a different turn.

1.Caroline And Justine - I mean, it's the same problem I had with Margaret in Persona 4 Golden. Their entire relationship comes down to fusing a bunch of personas and receiving some praise. I would rather prefer some like Elizabeth from Persona 3 or at least similar to Marie (hopefully not as bad character). Or maybe something that every two personas you fuse, the twins go with you to the real world. IT WOULD BE SO MUCH BETTER.

2.Makoto Social Link made little sense and just felt out of place. I mean, I would rather show her more of the world than focus on that worthless Eiko.

3.Haru had a good social link, but too little screentime, still liked it a lot.

4.Ann, her was all over the place. It felt like the writers had no clue what do they even want to show. Her social link all comes down to gaining resolve towards her future goal of being a model, etc. It's not bad, just could be better.

5.Shinya Oda, well... I guess, they wanted to give something akin to Nanako from Persona 4. However, when the game told us, 'you feel shinya's brotherly affection' I honestly felt baffled and did not share the experience.

How about you, what social links did you find bad and how would you improve them?

Ohya. She has an acceptable story midway through of her Confidant but the first parts were just getting through her drunken haze and rather dull personality. Not sure how to improve her Confidant without retooling her story though.

Makoto's focus on Eiko was a flaw though there is a line of argument that her development also takes place in the main story, meaning that she does not need to develop as much as the others. So there's that consolation.

Also, another question. Which Confidants did you unexpectedly like more than others? Mine is Toranosuke's (Sun Confidant). I thought he'd be an average one but I liked his story so much that I focused on finishing his Confidant first.

I agree with Sun Confidant. I expected him to be dull politician, but his story and problems were touching and humane. Good character overall.

Chihaya, I expected her to be just one of the many social links, but her interactions and struggles were truly well done.

Iwai, I did not see that one as interesting as it was.

That's about it.

Hey, @CerberusGate.

I got you a nice build:

-Magic ability(25% magic boost
-Almighty amp
-Almighty Boost
-Megidoloan

Basically 100% damage increase.

This with concentrate on different persona works wonders.

Nice.

Now I have to hope I get Almighty Boost from the Network then.

I got mine after several tries, but it is bound to luck.

I really do not get why is Atlus trying to push online aspect of Persona?

I mean it is primarly a single player jRPG.

Confidants I expected to hate but liked? Kawakami, she is a really good character and the confidant is pretty good with unarguably the best non party member Confidant Skills. Just don't romance her, that makes me queezy, and kinda diminishes the impact of the first arc.
Confidants I expected to like but ended up Meh, The Fortune Teller, I liked her design and her association with Tarot made me think she was gonna be a really interesting Confidant, but she is just okay. Her last 2 confidant skills are pretty worthless.

Testing the waters for a Digital Devil Saga MMO?

Her last 2 confidant skills are pretty worthless
Actually the Fortune Teller's (Chihaya) second-last Confidant skill is one of the best in game. A boost to any Confidant relationship that does not cost time and can be enhanced by having a Persona of the corresponding Arcana in your possession.

It costs 5000 yen but it is necessary for completing all Confidants in one playthrough (it made Confidant completion in NG+ much easier).

Her last skill is quite useless though. At par with Ohya's.

I already have 8 Maxed Confidants and I just recently got out of the 26 day period of the Futaba Arc, I tried to be sly and accumulate a bunch of Confidant quests for Mementos so I could just end the month with 3 Maxed Confidants but the last of the Quests I was attempting, Hifumi's, was on the floor of Mementos that doesn't open until after Futaba joins the team. Which put a stop to my plans. In any case I also bought the Raidoh Kuzunoha costume set because I love that series and I wish it received a modern release. I specially like the Goto Douji costume for Morgana.
