They'll say it's just so advertisers can hear what we want and tailor the commercials to fit what they hear, but I'm sure that anything and everything recorded will be kept as a text file even when it's not relevant to advertisers and it's just one hacker attack away from countless people having everything personal being copied by unknown people from anywhere in the world.

There will be an uproar once that actually happens.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Oh, that reminds me of Facebook buying Oculus for "Advertising Purposes."

At least the "OMG IT'S JUST LIKE NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR" crowd is right for once.

Not a big deal IMO, and nothing new at all. Even turned off cell phone could be utilized as a powerful transmitter for eavesdropping by intelligence agencies, or anyone with proper equipment for network monitoring, so why should they bother themselves with this remote controler thingy? It's impractical. Unlike the cell phone, people don't carry the remote controller in their pockets all the day.

Yup, I'm all against sharing personal details on social networks as FB and such. In fact, I'm actively filtering this stuff, don't want to be bothered with useless buttons or scripts while browsing teh interwebz. This is the most annoying shit I've forbade in my URL filter, if anyone is interested:

It is actually ... much worse. And we don't even know it.

Eh, ain't that bad. At least unlike Brave New World, we didn't bomb ourselves to oblivion first.

In general, neither Huxley nor Orwell were right. Gibson and other pioneers of cyberpunk were. To be honest, I'm not sure why we continue to think of the genre as fiction. We're living it right now.

I dont know if I am honest. I havn't read Brave new World - I probably should, but as far as I can tell Entertainment has become a very good tool of controll. Maybe it is because I experience right now a rather difficult situation in my life, but it does make you kinda think why you have nothing and a few have everything. But you are right with the Cyberpunk.

Not really. Have you seen what hackers look like nowadays?
Not like this, at any rate.

Entertainment being used to influence people is nothing new. Panem et circenses and all that jazz.

As for BNW, You have no excuse.

You're late by about 31 years, brah.
