Interplay has re-released a piece of concept art that was amongst Interplay's court filings to their forums, namely the Frozen Shipyard piece (which was available at DaC with ugly watermarks and The Vault without said watermarks earlier).

The concept artist, Serg Souleiman explains that none of these pieces are really telling us anything about the game.
I just wanted to clarify the purpose of these exploratory concept art pieces that I been posting.
They were really early pre-production images that we were exploring with Jason Anderson at the beginning of the project.

The purpose of images is to "explore" ideas, settings, color, mood, environments and to see how far we can push them visually. Some may be way out of the realm of possibilities, others have elements that will be used and/or expanded on.

These images also help the designers like Chris Taylor to fuel design ideas and stories.

These images are not the actually in game art, or anything in that nature. They were randomly selected to show the fans and see what the reaction would be.
I feel it’s a good way of keeping in touch with the fans. It's great to read your “constructive reasoning" and input on these images.

There are many more images that we have that you will one day get to see.

On a final note;
Think of the concepts as notes, or drafts before one was to write a book. Not all of these note or ideas end up in the final book but they do serve a purpose.

Thank you all for all the feedback..
Thanks King of Creation.

Looking at some of the van buren artwork, its actually pretty interesting how close these mmo concept art pics are to it's style.

It's not bad, but it's not great either. A frost-covered area might be an interesting place to explore, though.

You know, the idea of a Nuclear Winter just struck me when i read this. That would be interesting.

Unfortunately there was no nuclear winter in the fallout cannon.

"a quiet darkness fell across the planet... lasting many years"

From the ending of Perlmans speech in FO2. Sounds pretty much like a nuclear winter to me.

I could be wrong with that idea but I think they meant more the civlisation and interaction and economy between societies which stoped after the nuclear war to zero. Compared to our electronic age where comunication is so important and omnipresent one could compare the effects of a nuclear war and resulting silence like a quiet darkness.

that line is vague enough that it could have meant anything.

That's because you have no clue.

There was no nuclear winter because nuclear winters did not exist in 50s science fiction. Not even science!. With a !, yes.

I don't give a fuck about retroscience or whether or not there was a nuclear winter. Snow areas in video games are always the fucking best.

@OakTable - agree. in fallout tactics snow areas were even better than wastelands and that's the main reason why i so much adore tactics version of FO.

People who don't give a fuck about games are always the fucking best, ain't it?

Quit trolling please.

Trolling? I just said snow levels are awesome. And I think it would fit with Fallout. I could just picture a lonely man wandering about a frozen wasteland surrounded by the icy wreckage of what used to be buildings. Things like bent lightposts sticking out like jagged teeth from the snow.

Snow area would be nice, but let's not forget that Fallout needs desert areas.

Or perhaps this is the time to move onto something else?
