Ratio of raiders to settlers

Aren't you meant to be defending Toddie's game? Petey they're going to cut your salary if you carry on like this.

But seriously, you come on this forum like a troll and the next minute you're like "well this shit makes no sense!" make up your mind.

I'm going to give Phipps the benefit of the doubt here. I don't think he's a troll.

I don't as well; he's not devolved into Someguy's level of facetious trolling (i.e brings up a point and devolves into childish insults not offensive enough to be banned while defending said point) and has remained mostly reasonable in his posts though he admittedly slipped up (but at least has the decency to apologise for said slip ups).

Clearly I must be insane as no rationale person can overall like F4 but have heavy criticisms of it.

:)

Tbh your first few messages seemed like a troll. "squirt guns are awesome!" "I wish you could throw explosive teddy bears at Frank Horrigan" - not direct quotes but pretty much what you said. At least now you're bringing up intelligent counter arguments, which is always good to see. There's good in Fallout 4, but I think the bad in it outnumbers it. If you enjoy it then I won't stop you,

Petey.

I am sorry for some of the things I've said today. I really posted all night and day so I guess I had a LOT of pent-up passion from when the Bethesda forums moved.

Maybe take a break for little bit. Look into the middle-distance, do some light calisthenics and for sure just work on those double-posts m'kay, Phipps.

I think I got it all out. *breathes heavy* Just need to TALK ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE PARADISE FAL...

*is dragged off to the looney bin*

Hey, the fact that you are apologising for some of the things you've said makes you far better than some of the trolls NMA gets around here. We're used to people who like Fallout 4 devolving into snide commentators and resorting to insults (or worse, becoming so toxic that their trolling causes entire threads to be forcibly deleted or vatted) so it's nice to see that there are folks who can be reasonable.

And for what it's worth, I apologise for some of my harsher comments.

On a serious note, I felt the massive numbers of Raiders vs. Settlers made sense in the Capital wasteland.

Because it seemed like they had KILLED the majority of the inhabitants.

By contrast, I felt Fallout 4's commonwealth felt under-Raidered.

A few outposts here and there but nothing like the Commonwealth, Gunners aside.

Have, have you even looked at the chart? There's an abundance of raider camps, yet few settlements in sight.

Exactly. The Raiders and Super Mutants have turned the Capital Wasteland into a barely-hanging on hellhole. They've killed virtually everyone and life is about to end.

It makes the story all the more epic you feel like you're in a dying civilization which will never rise again unless something drastic happens. I mean, you could turn it into some bullshit "bunch of bandits need to have more settlements to raid than exist" but that's not about humanity's extinction, that's about crime and who gives a shit about that?

Why the Road Warrior is so good is that the Riggers are possibly the only human beings Max has met in years who are behaving as actual human beings and trying to rebuild. The Raiders are going to massacre them and extinguish that light.

(And the twist, of course, that they're assholes too works well with the movie)

That would be cool... if you'd actually feel that. There's no sense of end, no sense of raiders killing everyone. People in the Commonwealth don't care, and many factions ignore them. I don't know about you, but I'd love to see this in game, rather then your head.

I'm referring to the Capital Wasteland. The Commonwealth Raiders barely seem like a threat and it's seriously annoying.

There's also some genuinely confusing bits like a Raider group based in a Food Bank.

Why in the world would they need to Raid then?

Ah well, in that regard I can agree. They were more well done, but still the lack of justification and logic for the raiders annoys me. It's why I hate Mad Max.

The Raiders felt like an afterthought in the Commonwealth, which is a shame because I don't honestly think the Super Mutants were all that well justified in the game but are used as the "big threat." There's no real explanation what Father wanted from his FEV experiments, why he released the Super Mutants after creating them versus euthanizing them, and why the Super Mutants are hostile to settlers in this setting.

They did some cool things with the Commonwealth Raiders in radiant conversations and terminals, true, but they seem like an afterthought this time around until Nuka World. Instead, Raiders are replaced with the Gunners who don't seem to have a motivation for their actions.

Raiders, at least, you know want food and caps. The Gunners could probably make more as the mercenary protectors of the Commonwealth than they could as Raiders.

It's why I hate Mad Max.

The video game or the movies?

I admit to have a preference for Raiders and bandits in games. I like settings where the default assumption is your fellow human is more likely to murder you for your food than trade for it.

More dramatic that way.

:)

Then again, I like the idea humanity would have rebuilt civilization in Fallout but for the fact the people are the problem.
