Fallout 2 mod RPU - Talking Heads Addon

Very nice work! What has changed in your process? This well done ( :roll: ) Ghoul pictured above is highly detailed and really on point, but the animation appears to be texture only; the facial animation shifts, but the contour of the figure seems static.

Is this —not— a 3D rendered mesh having the head re-positioned? Or is it just so subtle that the ears don't seem to move despite turning the head?

If You look closely the ears do move, just very slightly, since the head itself isn't turning by a large angle.

You may also take note that several of the talking heads that have voice over in Fallout2 natively seem to have neat text to speech engine set up for their voice on fakeyou.com
So Sulik, Myron, heck even Ron Perlman the game's narrator, could have additional lines without having to pay five to six digit $$$ sums to aquire the new voice lines.

Thank you for the tip, luckily we have found many great volunteer voice actors that have done an amazing job so far. Although this seems a great tool for adding lines to Sulik and other vanilla characters!

This is a small update focusing on minor characters. All characters have been tested aside from Kaga, who I can't seem to trigger his random encounter :sad:

An amazing add on to the Restoration Project, nicely done, can't wait to see how good it gets with the voices. You asked about the Kaga encounter, it works, found him after wandering around Aroyo and what can i say, that evil look he has works perfectly with the murderer personality he has :D

Just played through this again, this mod makes it so much fun. I was a little disappointed that Mason didn't have his signature mirrored shades though.

One character I'd like to see done is private Dobbs, this would 100% complete the Sierra Army Depot.

Also the companion backgrounds seem to be fixed. Was there any plans to implement the companion armor mod to their talking heads?
 
The mod is just amazing! Made me replay F2 third time in a row :-) However, I've got two suggestions to consider for future releases

First, I think Mason should have his shades on. It's the best trophy from killing Salvatore's gang, after all.
And second, Valerie having a wrench in her hand and asking Chosen One to get her another looked a bit strange to me. Perhaps, some other tool might be more logical?
 
Just popping my head in to let people know I haven't forgotten about the mod. :lol:

I'm hoping to resume work on this again soon, just trying to drum myself up to respond to the massive back log of voice actor messages. :shock:

Once I can catch up on the current submissions I have we'll be up to around 25 fully voiced characters.

Resumed work on this today, working on 16 different characters in parallel. The edited scripts for the new additions are all compiled. I will be generating the lip syncs over the next couple days, about 600 lines of new voiced dialog in addition to the ones I've already processed.

I am planning on releasing an alpha version of the audio patch with the first 25 voiced characters by the end of this week.

The 16 new additions on top of the ones mentioned previously include:

  • Wooz
  • Tyler
  • Steve
  • Smiley
  • Slim Pickett
  • Sherriff Marion
  • Lao Chou
  • Proconsul Gregory
  • Festus
  • Enlightened One
  • Dex
  • Dangerous Dan McGrew

The death claws have continued to prove probably the most challenging to cast. There are a couple different camps on how they are supposed to sound, and Goat Boy and I have just not heard a convincing sounding death claw yet, despite them being probably the most popular submission from the casting calls.

as for the deathclaws I'd say go with morphvox pro and take the demon morph.. most suiting. since it is a virtual soundcard driver, you could record the output to any program, the only downside is $$ needed to pay for the software, so either find someone that has this or.. beats me.. aquire it yoursleves i guess..

Ran into a couple of issues on a few of the characters:
  • Missing half of Dex's lines from last July, have reached out to the VA to see if he has the other half of the set.
  • Proconsul Greg's VA sent me multiple takes for each line so I am having to go through and trim each of his lines.
  • Wooz and Festus's audio files are not well liked by the lip sync script, looks like it's related to how the files are encoded, may take a while to debug.
  • Enlightened One's VA I think did not do the best job at recording her lines. In hind sight I don't think she was the best person to cast for the role, the background noise in her files is just too much, so I am going to have to open her role up for the casting calls again.
In the mean time, I have the other 11 character's lip sync files generated, and am currently going through and auditing each one. Here is a sneak peak at two of them, including one voiced by fellow member here on the forum:

Probably the final content adding update for a while as the next updates will be focused on remaking or fixing older talking heads. With this and the 2.9 update, which I haven't documented on this site, most if not all major characters have been covered.

The addon is now compatible with the Armored Talking Heads Mod (only version 1.3), make sure to download the compatibly patch in the download section.

Wow that Zaius is great! Really gets the "Mutant Mining Foreman" he is.

Yeah I can see why you would't want to add more, because then at that point you might as well give every man a talking head. I mean, that would be cool tho.

Surprised you didn't give talking heads to the bickering old codgers in Modoc or Balthas.

EDIT: I was seeing a video of 2.9, is Dalia correct? Because her description is like this:

"You see a young woman in tattered clothing. She seems very alert, and watches her surroundings carefully." - This is the V15 version
"You see a pretty young woman dressed in metal armor. She watches her surroundings very carefully." - This is the V13 version

The current version of Dalia doesn't look very pretty.

@Goat_Boy Could you please send me an updated version of that zipped file you sent me? I couldn't find the time to add it to FODD but I got it now. Thank you!

I plan to release the alpha version of the voiced portion of this mod later tonight after I can get in as many of the additional voice files that I have on hand as I can.

Just ran into an interesting problem. For at least maybe three or so characters in New Reno, a handle is used for the player (prize fighter name, pornstar name, crime boss name).
And at least in stuart little's case, there are 75 different names, and five dialog lines where he says the name.

So his character is going to need some real special treatment because the VA is going to have to record each of the handles, and then I will have to piece mail their lines together for each combination of dialog.
Didn't think stuart little would prove to be the most complicated script in the game to get the voice acting for, lol.

Or our other option is to just strip the handle out all together... Not as fun but would significantly simplify things. Instead of saying the handle, he just says 'Champ' or something like that.

That's sort of what I am already doing with the character names anyway.

I've already been working around that by replacing the character name with a generic pronoun.
