Fallout 2 mod RPU - Talking Heads Addon

Renesco...does he have a talking head? He is one of the most interesting characters in the game and deserves one. I'm really enjoying my current playthrough with your mod.

Hi, glad you're enjoying the mod!

Renesco doesn't have a talking head and I'm not sure if I could ever make him one. His dialogue is amazing, with really well written moments where the game describes how annoyed he gets at the player and how he reacts. I just feel a talking head wouldn't do him justice specially since animations are chosen randomly and don't change in basis of the dialogue (aside from the happy/angry transition animations).
Who knows though, I might change my mind in a future update!

Love what you've done with this mod, the old version was one of my favorite mods and this one is so much better.

One thing to note is when the alt Miria mod for rpu is installed Miria's talking head disappears. It would be pretty nice if they could work together.

Thank you, that's really kind!

Did you download the compatibility patch for the Alt/Better Miria mod? You can find it in the download section.

EDIT:
My bad never realized there was an RPU version of this, I've made a Patch and attached it to this post.
Let me know if it works (if you have the time) as I haven't had to chance to test myself.

I really like the realization of your Talking Heads Addon
if you still interested in adding some characters, I tried to recreate a classic combat armor here, that might be useful..\
If you interested a PBR textures/model or blender file for some characters let me know

(dont know why personal messages did not work)

That looks awesome mate!
I'm taking a break from the mod at the moment but I'll get back at it soon, I would gladly use this quality model with your permission.
You mentioned "models for some characters" do you make character 3D models too? That sounds cool!
Not sure why DMs weren't working btw

it was saying my message looked as a spam =)
its ok, you can use them whenever you need.. I'm also having hard time finishing it into a proper mod for new vegas... anyway
I made the armor model in blender and textures in substance. But they can be easily transferred to blender model (where i made render for the picture)
I don't know how you made the heads, but i don't have actual faces, only armor model with standard neck, if this will help..
im not good at all in modeling faces and human anatomy :)

Blender format works really well for me, I usually use the program to convert New Vegas models (NIF) into OBJs.
I make the character models mostly with Daz Studio, it makes creating people and making animations very easy.

I used the one from the downloads page shortly after you replied. I just tested it and it works great. Thanks again.

okay, let me fit it a bit for some time and I can create blender file for you with PBR textures or/and a nif model..
let me know where is it better to upload it.

I guess Blender would work for me but don't worry! Send it when you can, I won't be working at this mod for a bit anyway :D

Goat Boy I'm curious what your lighting setup was for the talking heads? Could you screenshot a Blender scene with the model and lighting?

I think the heads you've built are really good, the more exaggerated the character the better IMO, considering the cartoon nature of the game. They might need stronger lighting setup with stronger shadows. This is not a criticism, the work you did is fantastic, just a suggestion...

Hi Pixote, don't worry I love good criticism!

I don't use Blender to render, I use Daz Studio which is the software I use to create the character models. I don't make all the 3D assets from scratch which is why I've managed to make a lot of these talking heads.

I totally agree that I should use more contrasting lighting and shadows, it would make the portraits look more interesting and expressive. Problem is that every time I use more complex lighting settings the rendering process takes a while, sadly my computer isn't very powerful.

I really appreciate the feedback though. Been making new THs today and I'm trying to make them more stylized and rugged so it's more akin to the original portraits.

I think your models are better than the original ones. This is already an essential mod. Hopefully the other modders here can help you get the backgrounds and maybe even the armor working.

The original models were hand sculpted from modeling clay.

*Then 3D scanned, and rendered.

It's interesting to me that the original models are more complex than Bethesda's —and Obsidian's own.

You guessed it! It's a great tool for this kind of thing, a lot more powerful than I gave it credit for.

I thought that's the case, some of the models seemed familiar. Yeah, if you're willing to spend the time to learn how to use it, and manage to get assets, the options are basically unlimited.

New small update added 3 characters but now all companions will have their background change in base to their location, thank you Femic for showing me how to do that!

For future updates I was thinking of going by locations, for example I could focus on Talking Heads for Redding or New Reno. I'm happy to take suggestions :)

My suggestion would be to focus on TH for Redding first.
