Rumors on the Game Informer article

Also, isn't isometric RTwP one of the worst combat systems ever? PS:T, anyone?

From the looks of it, we won't even get an isometric like perspective on this debacle. First-person and an over-the-shoulder camera seem to be the two alternatives confirmed so far.

Why would you possible lock the camera to disallow bird-eye or isometric-esque view on an engine like GameBryo? Wouldn't really make sense, especially since bird-eye is available but sucky in Oblivious.

KOTOR had one of the most fun and engaging combat systems i've played. though not specifically iso i guess.

From the "article information," It seems like everyone is going to HAVE to aim. I'm not sure though, I'd really love to see some scans.

Anyway, if that's not the case, they should definitely make the PC port have camera options. I don't know why they wouldn't..

Actually, it sounds the opposite to me. Saying that you "can aim" or "select targets at your leisure" sounds to me like its a choice.

Here are some more quotes from the guy who posted his summary of an article that apparently only he has read. I'm not sure I'm willing to get myself worked up over this guys word. He doesn't write that clearly himself, and even if he can't post scans, you'd think he could just type up some direct quotes from the article.

I'm putting my emotions on hold until I see the actual article. In the meantime, here's more not-entirely-clear information from Some Guy Who Has Read An Article.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=161136&page=11:

It seems that outside of the VATS system everything is real time. The only time the game pauses is when you enter the VATS system and start using AP and issuing commands. The article doesn't really say much more than that, but they do say that the game is geared more towards a role-playing turn based style as opposed to a twitch gaming style of play.

Yeah once you're in the V.A.T.S. system every combat move you make uses AP. The amount of AP is based on your agility rating. So things like targeting specific areas etc use AP. Also things like distance etc factor into your hit % while you're in the V.A.T.S. system.

At least that's how it reads.

It'll make sense when you see the screen shots included with the article. There's one that perfectly shows you how it's going to work

How can a screen shot accurately show a combat system? Nuts and bullocks.

And that link of yours is kind of the link in the newspost, Misteryo.

That sounds sort of like KoTOR, with a pause button in combat...Not that bad, if true. Better than all real-time.

They would do it if they couldn't be bothered modifying the engine to make ceilings/upper levels dissolve (ala NWN2). The 3rd person in Obliv was really only there for people to perv at their characters and make pretty screen shots of their characters sitting down and staring at yet another speedtree hill - it was utterly useless as soon as you went into a confined space, or had something towering over you.

I suspect it will be a KOTOR chase camera style system that is offered, as that wouldnt require such a drastic change in engine capability. Dare say you will still be able to zoom out to birds eye, but seriously doubt it will be of any practical use (other than taking screenshots).

I must say, I'm tempted to correct them on their use of perspectives, but I'd rather lurk and watch what happens, now that they know we're watching. :P

If you like easy, repetitve, combat with flashy graphics. Tactics mostly consist of runining up to the nearest foe, clubbing until one of you falls and repeating.

There are actually decent RTwP games with some tactical depth (Close Combat, Freedom Force, Sid Meier's Gettysburg). RTwP need not be synonymous with Infinity Engine. Still I don't see a Psuedo TB system where APs regenerate as a good build for Fallout. See how systems like that nerfed FO:T and Arcanum's combat.

Haha no level scaling glad they got the message about that crap with Oblivion.

This all actually sounds surprisingly kick-ass nothing for me to complain about, I bet the trolls at NMA will be raging about it though.

Trolls know proper sentence structure while this human does not? Me mad, bash things!

I love people that write like infants. I usually just skip over anything they say, but NMA caught my eye.

KoTOR had about as much combat depth as Fallout, if you played it that way. Freedom Force had much the same style of combat as KoTOR, I don't see where' you're making the difference.
