Want to go fight for Ukraine? Here’s what to do. (militarytimes.com)

  1. Apply to the Embassy of Ukraine in your country with the intention of joining the Foreign Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine (ask a military diplomat or consul for details). Applicants can visit the Embassy in person, call or send an email to start the process.
  2. Get your documents in order. This includes an ID, a passport to travel abroad, documents confirming military service or work with law enforcement agencies and participation in combat.
  3. Arrive at the embassy with documents for an interview with the defense attaché and the settlement of any visa issues with the consul.
  4. Write an application for enlistment in the Territorial Defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for military service under a contract on a voluntary basis. (This is in addition to Step 1.)
  5. Receive instructions on how to arrive in Ukraine and what to bring. Military clothing, equipment, helmet, body armor, combat gloves, tactical glasses, belts and vests are recommended. “It is not obligatory,” the official said, “but a foreign soldier in his national uniform looks good for the International Legion.”
  6. Go to Ukraine in an organized manner. Representatives of Ukrainian embassies, consulates (abroad) and Territorial Defense in Ukraine will provide assistance on the way. Contacts will be provided at the Embassy of Ukraine in your country.

I hope no one here was stupid enough to get carried away by the propaganda drums back then

Contracting mercenaries does not feel like a proper escalation on the level of calling a foreign entity and ally into the war. A proper escalation would be if Poland sent a whole division of troops to assist with the offensive against Russia

I doubt it's gonna come to that dude

I was refering to the animation, but also, things are happening at a worrying tempo, and Russia keeps having to bluff harder, and even if they lose their entire shit, they might just spew untrained "orcs" over the borders, more meat for the grinder - but that in itself is an absolute shitshow that's gonna destabilize and slow things down - just recently, my city went from having 0 active anti-air units to having 6, in a circle

Just north of the fjord (what a norwegian sentence) is Norways main airforce base, offering air coverage to much of Scandinavia; thereof the air-defenses; so even IF we have to evacuate people from an entire county up north ("mostly" empty... ), and then make hundreds of thousands of Russian scum die in the vidda, they would STILL petulently lob missiles - or drones, just to be asshats about it - JUST because they got this far, and now have to go further.

That dumb old fucking kgb piece of shit sociopath, all he had to do was die of a stroke or something.

Same with the previous admin in my book. I notice Russia bluffs way too much when it comes to the threats, and I feel the best way to deal with it is to fight through it. I'd only believe capability the moment they say absolutely nothing and it just happens. That sociopathic dipshit talks way too damn much for a dude who looks like he doesn't say shit.

Russia only provides 15% of total gas consumption in the EU, it should be 0% though. The war isn't over - who's going win isn't known... yet.

We're on that path at least, it's mostly the post-Habsburg states that still rely on Russian hydrocarbons.
the question is whether Europeans will be able to give up Russian energy sources completely for the sake of Ukraine.
at the same time,
We made that choice almost 3 years ago. Supporting Ukraine is the right thing to do, morally and strategically.

Russia's military expenditures in 2024 amounted to about $120 billion. At the same time, EU countries bought $20-22 billion worth of natural gas and $2-3 billion worth of oil from Russia in 2024. It would be interesting to know how much the EU allocated to help Ukraine?
The EU as an institution has given Ukraine over €143 billion since the start of the full-scale invasion, this doesn't count what the individual member states have given themselves.
Let's assume that only 15% of Europeans are interested in Russian gas, not so much at first glance. But the population of Europe is 740 million people, according to rough estimates 0.15×740=111. The interests of 100 million Europeans against the interests of 30 million Ukrainians. Who will win?
Moral formalism and hypocrisy of politicians or economic expediency?
Your assumption is wrong.
1. Your population figure includes Russia, which reduces it to 600 million. It's also doubtful if we should even count Turkey, which would lower the population to just 515 million if removed.
2. You can't just pull a number like that (15%) out of your ass as not all countries are reliant on Russian natural gas. As I wrote earlier, it is mostly the small central European states that rely on Russian gas. Like Hungary, Austria, Czechia and Slovakia. The total cost of ALL Russian fossil fuel imports to the EU was less than €2 billion.
3. Why do you insinuate that we, the European people, don't want to support Ukraine? Do we lack our own true agency and the evil politicians do it just to spite us and waste money? Of course not, we want Ukraine to win. It's not about "muh" economy, it's about securing a better strategic position, weakening Russia, rule of international law, stopping Russian imperialism and genocide and securing our strategic independence. I hope you realise that all trust in Russia is GONE.

Besides Hungary, the other states are actively working on becoming less dependent on Russian fossil fuels, it's not something that can be done over a day. It's not a binary choice,
The 2022 invasion was a wake-up call for Europe which finally realized that we can never ever trust Russia. We gave them an olive branch after the Soviet collapse; they returned the favour by trying to forcefully blackmail us and carry out wars of conquest. We had no plans of joining Nato pre-invasion, but they left us no choice.

What are you even talking about? The "Russians" you are speaking about are Russian-speaking Ukrainians, not Russians. Language spoken ≠ nationality. You don't call the Irish English because they speak English, no? So why would you do the same with Ukrainians? The Russian language isn't banned, it never has been, and it's still widely spoken across eastern Ukraine. The only genocide in Crimea was the deportation of the native Tatars by Soviet authorities 80 years ago. Russia isn't "liberating" its "little Russian" neighbours by subjecting them to a genocidal occupation, obducting children, seizing homes and forcefully conscripting them.

Having a strong will doesn't equate to being a capable defender, mind over matter does little in warfare on a strategic level. Russia isn't defending itself by attacking Ukraine, which it did in 2014, Russia is the aggressor. It's the Ukrainians who are bravely defending themselves against an openly genocidal aggressor who wishes to subjugate them and erase their culture. Turn on Russian TV and they say this openly, it's not something they're hiding.

There's always a whole bunch of different justifications for aggression against Ukraine - it's spooking Russia too much by being too pro-western OR it's being too provocative by contemplating NATO or they are actually not Ukrainians at all, but "little Russians" OR they are subjugating THEIR little-little-Russians
A long, nice, convenient list of justifications, so very debate-proof; "oh, so you don't buy the ethnic justification, then look, here - I have a geographical one! No? Not convinced? Then here, have a historical one!"

The Russian population present post-2014 occupation are not legal residents of Crimea, they have no right to live there. Hence why they should be deported, the same way any state treats illegal migrants.
Nato was ambivalent about its purpose and didn't want to be seen as too hostile post-Soviet collapse until the 2022 invasion. I'm glad we're finally open about it because everyone already knew that, no need to play silly games. Russia has always seen us as foes, no matter what.
I'm well aware of who has controlled the modern territory of Ukraine, no need to try and lecture me. Stop trying to insinuate that Russia has the right to subjugate its neighbours, it does not.
You mean when Ukraine finally decided to remove its Russian colonial legacy and monuments praising the country's subjugation? If Russia wants to spread its values and culture do it peacefully, not by invading Ukraine to forcefully russify them.

A valiant effort but you are arguing with brainwashed retards who refuse to believe anything but the narrow propaganda they have been fed over the last 3 years

Now on the issue of the supposedly only genocide in Crimea.

The Holocaust in the Crimea and the North Caucasus has a methodical format. Following a brief history and ethnography, Feferman discusses the flow of refugees into the regions and eventual evacuation from the front. He argues that 38 to 47 percent of the Crimean and 40 to 50 percent of the North Caucasian Jewish population evacuated before the German military secured the region. From there, Feferman examines registration, forced labor, and the killing operations. In addition to division in the Crimea–North Caucasus activities, Feferman highlights the urban-rural distinction and relations between EG D and the regular army. He also discusses mixed-family policy and "exemptions" made for the medical field. According to his estimates, German forces killed thirty thousand to thirty-five thousand Jews in Crimea and thirty-five thousand to forty thousand in the North Caucasus.
You're right actually, I forgot to mention the Nazi-german and collaborationist war crimes and genocide in the east, good point. I only brought up the genocide committed by Soviet authorities as I was specifically focusing on Russia.

A valiant effort but you are arguing with brainwashed retards who refuse to believe anything but the narrow propaganda they have been fed over the last 3 years
A classic move innit? You're insinuating that I'm incapable of forming my own thoughts and opinions, that I lack agency and free will and only regurgitate their propaganda. Also limiting the timeframe to 3 years as if I had never heard of the conflict before. Splendid, mate.

lol, scrolling a thread of NK soldiers being droned, and the comment section is the biggest bleeding heart soup I've ever seen, everyone suddenly considering the cost of a human life, the sadness and confusion these poor angels must be experiencing

*lifts a lit lighter*

kumba yaaaaa, poor confused and sad north koreans, kumba yaaaaa
kumba yaaa, we must consider the value of human life, including north koreans, kumba yaaaaa

I mean even North Koreans themselves might view this dead as a release of their painful existence.
