Silver Style and Fallout 3

Mr. Strehse:

Would you use one of your current engines to make a FO3, if you got the rights?

Would you look into aquiring the engine that BIS was using for FO3? Considering you are looking into getting some exBIS staff.

Hi guys!
It schould have the spirit of FO1+2, but at the time it has to fullfill modern technical and modern gamedesign standards of the year 2004.

Many people feel that today's standards have gone downhill. Fallout is still loved because it sets a high standard that works even today.

It doesn't need real-time. It doesn't need stupid mini-games. Weakening the design to try and be popular kills your product faster.

Ye no realtime and no stupid in-between modes (Ufo Aftermath etc). The graphics need to be detailed and grimm, if it can't be done in 3D then stick to 2D.. nothing can ruin the whole feel of the game better than graphics that don't suit the setting. And of course the story and the game world would have to be good enough to earn the title Fallout 8)

You know what ?

I'm so tired of expectancy. This is the word. This all that i've known in this miserable life for the past years. It's not my fault that i'm like this, but then i don't have the time to explain it. I need Fallout, just let somebody do it, let us let them do it.
The Fallout fanbase has quite the reputation and maybe it's time somebody started the damn project and actually finished it, without being afraid of a reaction.
Isn't 3 a large sum already ?
Feedback can also go along the way. I just want something good, i have no other pleasures coming to me.

For the record, I think Trokia made Arcanum the way it did so it wouldn't be compared to Fallout (which in a lot of ways it resembled...well at least to me)

I think they are trying to find new ways to do things... of course so far they aren't scoring high.

Mr. Strehse I think that the most important questions are:

How much do you want to do this ?

When would the negotiations with IPLY begin ?

A few more questions answered by Carsten:

> What engine would you use for FO if you got the rights? The same one as The Fall? Can it be used from the traditional "FO" camera perspective?

We don't know yet. But it doesn't matter which engine would be used, the possibility to play in the original perspective would be a must.

> what about the rights to SPECIAL?

We simply don't know yet.

> Why would you want the FO pc name?

We don't want the name, it would be great to develop a FO game. That's something completly different.

> Yea, I'm just not sure if "the FO name will give us press" is going to get anyone in silver styles corner. I hope there is something else they are willing to offer as a reason.

No need to answer that question via PM. The simple reasons are: we love FO1+2, it would be huge fun develop in the FO universe and we think we are able to make money with it, if the marketing fits. Simple as 1, 2, 3.

> Does that mean using SPECIAL? Making it TRUE TB? Single player only? Having a "overhead" camera angle? And generally stay with canon?

No need to make the game only single player (or do mean "no party"?), but I agree with the rest.

First of all: Please call me Carsten. That's my first name. If you call me "Mr." I feel rather old.

I can't tell you details at the moment, because it could screw things. All I can tell you is that we are in contact with the some of BIS guys and that there're very positive signals from both sides.

I definitely don't think that real-time is necessary in any way- this is coming from a fan of many realtime games (including the oft maligned on these boards Neverwinter Nights). You see games like Arcanum and Planescape touted for story and not combat, and games like Temple of Elemental Evil touted for combat and bashed for story. Guess which one is pure turn based.

When you have real time, you lose the sense that the battles are significant. It's mostly, I'm just going to bash a trail through these guys to get where I'm going. Also, as in Fallout Tactics, very big gameplay sacrifices have to be made to the turn based mode- Enemies are spread out, combat is more frequent a less personal, and you miss out on the great combat text messages. It just takes too many sacrifices to make the game work on both levels.

And unlike others, I think a 3D engine is a great innovation to be used for turn based combat. Imagine panning and zooming the camera right before you take a shot with your pistol. Imagine taking an aimed shot and having the camera lock onto the figure of your enemy and a HUD display appears, detailing the vital shots and percentage chance to hit. An aimed shot with a sniper rifle would actually zoom in on the enemy figure and maybe be easier to target, while aimed pistol shots would be limited by range. Imagine the sight of an enemy pointing his gun at you and preparing to squeeze the trigger.

The only games that should be real time are racing games, flight games, some strategy games, first person shooters and tetris :P

RPGs are about story, combat is a side event. And most people I know who are looking for story, aren't looking for their reflexes to be tested constantly.

Quite big imagination Revolver, but I agree with you.

BTW Kharn when are you going to make this poll about Silver Style? It would be a better way to see what people think.
Kharn said:
I'll make a newspost on it to get a debate started and put a poll on the front page of NMA

While most of use here are TB fans, not everyone is.

Considering how dedicated SS seems to making a good FO (if they get the rights), I have to assume that if they think that adding RT is nessasary...then it is. For sales at least. Considering we all seemed to except (to a degree) having the hybrid system in VB, I don't see the harm in having it again.

Like I said, I have to hold it of because there already is a new poll on the frontpage.

I'm going to give that one at least a week before overlapping it.

That is a fucking awesome idea Revolver. I wonder if the BI devs ahd that in mind for Van Buren? regardless, I would love to design my own Matrix style gun battles. Rotate the camera to follow bullets and other crazy shit. :silly:  :ugly:

My little advice: recruit at least 1 designer, 2 programmers, and 1 artist from the original team.
Also make sure you have an insightful understanding of the fallout essence.

At least we could see the sequel:), so best wish to Silver Style!

Best wishes to Silver Style.

It'd be fantastic if you could get some of the BIS guys on your team, regardless of whether FO3 becomes your property.

Can't you just make TWO polls on the front page?

This influx of curious and informed posters aren't going to hang around forever you know.

I like this n00blet :D

I doubt fallout will be the same as we liked if it will change hands :/

still we must give them a chance
who knows maybe they they will make an ok game.

some one in this forum said that fallout game belongs to a more civilized era and he was right.

all the game that are out in the last time are F***ed up. ( I heared that even deus ex 2 f***ed up because its 1/3 long of the original )

we saw many good games die by this era of stupidity ( Final fantasy , Fallout (R.I.P) and many more )

all the game terms like plot, game play and tactics died to the hand of grathic and and endless acount of 3d army/world war/kill them all shooters.

cruel time to live in I say.

A very good sign is that they are in contact with Puuk and JE. Check the 'The Fall' boards over there. I think Kharn made a link.

Of course, nothing matters if they can't get the license.
