Oh, and one more thing....Aaaaw. too soon?

One less cult leader in the world.

Let's hope the Apple zombie hordes manage to ween themselves off of their incessant drooling over overpriced shit - apparently his PR talent was, after all, quite effective. I personally never saw the appeal of all the over-the-top self-congratulatory shit that happens at Apple product unveilings (and I've watched a few on-line).

It's mostly people with low self-esteem that seem to have bought into his shit (like most cult followers). Let's hope they become a bit more free now, and (perhaps) gain the ability to think for themselves a bit more, now that their (self-proclaimed) guru has bitten the dust.

Oh, Apple will live on. There are other people with black turtlenecks out there.
Despite my dislike for Apple products (although I do have an old G4 Powermac standing around. It's kinda broken now and runs on Linux) and the very principle they follow, I certainly can't deny the influence Jobs had on the computer world.
While I regard most Apple products as total useless bullshit, at least the old ones absolutely did push things forward.

Steve Jobs was a genius, the way he got everyone and your grandmother to buy the latest I-watcha-macall-it was simply amazing. :) Whats more amazing is that the those devices cost more than your car payments.@Jebus:Cult Leaders are temporary;followers are forever(towards" your one less leader"post)

A shame. If nothing else, the whole tech industry just got a little less exciting. It's good to have an eccentric weirdo in charge of a big company like that to shake up the competition. RIP

I've known a few "i" addicts. I like Apple computers myself, but I can't afford them anymore. There are people that spend themselves into oblivion buying the latest Apple gadgets. It's exactly like a cult. "All you nobodies join us and become somebody. Giving us all your money is required." Now they have a martyr. Yes, he was an innovator. But, all the fuss on the internet makes him sound like a cross between Einstein and Walt Disney. What's next, Apple theme parks? Somebody, PLEASE nuke the world before that happens.

just horribly disappointed at the stuff they are saying apple "invented" when all they did was take other peoples inventions, make them look pretty, nuke some of their power with locked-in-solutions that are pretty user-friendly, and then slap a large price tag on them.

i have seen apple credited with:
inventing the mouse
inventing the GUI
inventing the PC
inventing the smart phone
inventing the mp3 player

none of that is accurate. they didnt invent any of that stuff.

I I-Phone 10 was developed when the first I-Phone came out, and they watered the features/speed down 10 increments so we could be spoon fed "new" tech every 6 months. Thats my story and I'm stickin to it.

Iconoclastic Apple Consumer

Iconoclastic Apple Consumer

Had low end Amigas with SCSI, and friends with SCSI Mac's for their kids' schooling wanted to add peripherals. Got to play, upgrade, on other people's Mac's as Commodore faded away.

Having an OS that “just works” with what ever can be plugged in had a lot of appeal after cobbling together behind the curve PC's.

Jobs return to Apple meant the banning of the beige boxes that were too proprietary to hold onto and upgrade.
Going to mainstream PC hardware saved the Mac computer.

Not a fan of the i-Toys, and my work horse PC is a Mac. My main game machine is a Windows PC.
An Intel Mac means I boot a Win XP partition, and play the games that require a dual core processor.

Oh no, I missed out on Win Vista! Blame Steve Jobs and my learning the value of an efficient OS, that includes my holding on to Win XP because it works with the generation of hardware I choose to use.

Not a fan of the i-Toys, not a consumer for consuming sake that drives too much economic ideology.
Product passion addiction out of sync with contemporary marketing cycles.
Just holding onto what works for me.

Is anyone here aware that the Apple name and basic logo were pirated? The Beatles created Apple Records as a division of their Apple Corporation back in the late 1960's and it was and remains their label for the group and each individually. There are a few other artists that record under Apple Records, but it is owned by the Beatles and their heirs. This was a point of legal contention for decades. They settled their differences only last year.

Way I heard it Apple chose the Apple because they wanted to reference one of their icons, namely Apple Records. The main contention coming from the fact they said they would stay out of the music business so as not to mosey in on Apple's territory.
Then they released the iPod and the whole fisty cuffs started.
