Steve Jobs died

Thanks for creating overpriced gadgets and computers with obsolete hardware and selling them at ripoff prices. Bye.

Let's hope Apple die next...

Dude the man just died, show some sympathy.

Pixote, the "applecorps.com" address in the web browser in your pic is for the Beatles.

I don't want Apple Computers to die. Things were not always so bad. In the '90's they licensed other manufacturers to make Apple computers. Some of those other computers were the best Apples on the market. There was competition and prices were better. Then Steve Jobs came back to the company and it became the monster we know today. They revoked all the licensing and bought out their competition. The best online seller of licensed Apples became Apple.com.

Now, Apple computers are overpriced and most of the profit margin goes directly to Apple. Resellers make very little on these products. I don't know how they can sell their frivolous hardware in this economy. With Steve Jobs gone maybe the bubble will finally burst, their prices will come down, and they will license again. I would really like to be able to buy a Mac that I can upgrade instead of having to buy another complete system when the previous one starts getting old. This is the main reason I built a PC.

One less cult leader in the world.

Let's hope the Apple zombie hordes manage to ween themselves off of their incessant drooling over overpriced shit - apparently his PR talent was, after all, quite effective. I personally never saw the appeal of all the over-the-top self-congratulatory shit that happens at Apple product unveilings (and I've watched a few on-line).

It's mostly people with low self-esteem that seem to have bought into his shit (like most cult followers). Let's hope they become a bit more free now, and (perhaps) gain the ability to think for themselves a bit more, now that their (self-proclaimed) guru has bitten the dust.
Yes, let's become "free" and "think for ourselves" by doing what people like you tell us to do.

My iPhone does everything I need it to do very well, and nothing any of the Android phone I've checked out or my friends' ones that I've played with have done anything it can't, and they're generally more sluggish, have an uglier / less user-friendly UI, and just don't feel as good as my iPhone. 'Course, this is all IMO.

Contrary to the "I'm so superior because I buy into Android" crowd, quite a lot of people who buy into Apple products are perfectly reasonable, intelligent people who are well aware what Apple has and hasn't done and simply prefer what their products have to offer. And, the price I paid was exactly the same as I would have paid for the high-tier Android phones at the time. The only things I regret is that it has no microSD slot, and I can't choose my own damn SMS tone.

Granted, I'll almost certainly never buy an Apple computer because they are overpriced and I can't build my own. I might get an Airbook/Macbook at some point, though, since the PC industry apparently can't build a comparatively equipped "ultra book" at a similar price point despite the so-called "Apple tax". Hum.

Now, of course the company that he co-founded and subsequently rescued, and for whom he was an iconic figure, is going to fawn over his "vision" and "genius". He was certainly very smart and a very good businessman, though I think Wozniak was more the genius.

Anyone using a thread about Job's death to try and score "points" in their idiotic Apple-hate campaign is pretty tasteless and pathetic, though.

Pfff my Airphone 4 does everything I need it to very well.

Oh wait.

But seriously I don't need an I-Phone or similar device seeing I use my old Nokia cell phone mainly as an alarm clock.

There's a difference between not caring (in which case, one would just, I don't know, stay silent?) and hating on the guy, his company and going into a cliche ranting about it's customer base.

I mean, the only Apple product I have is a fairly old iPod, and I would never buy any of their overpriced desktops (laptops are another matter), but saying he was a cult leader and that people who buy his products don't have free will is beyond ''not caring'' and just stupid actually.

It's a thread in a discussion forum (You know, a place to discuss your opinions; be they controversial or not), and he was a VERY polarizing figure; so seeing that sort of thing shouldn't surprise you at all.

The same thing would have happened had Gates died instead.

If you didn't care for the guy when he was alive, why start showing false sympathy and talking about how great he was after he's dead?

Well I guess the question is why do you dislike someone who you didn't know.

And Even if he was a jerk he is dead now so there is no purpose in insulting him.

Whoops...I want the Beatles to live. :look:

It bothers you because you know it's true.

Insulting him??? Criticizing his company's products is an insult now?
Yes, heaven forbid we take a look at what he did before praising him to high heavens.

I believe in not speaking ill of the dead, but I do believe in speaking the truth of the dead. Whatever light that casts them in, good or bad, is on them. Was Steve Jobs a visionary and a genius? Yeah. Was he a saint or a revolutionary? No. He did some things that helped to shape the modern world. Most of them happened back in the 80's. I hear he was also a decent friend to have.

A man is dead. I didn't know him. My condolences to his family.

While I regard most Apple products as total useless bullshit, at least the old ones absolutely did push things forward.
Agreed, Apple was truly a technologically innovative force in the 80s, too bad that was the end of that.

Way I heard it Apple chose the Apple because they wanted to reference one of their icons, namely Apple Records. The main contention coming from the fact they said they would stay out of the music business so as not to mosey in on Apple's territory.
It was also a reference to the Apple of knowledge from the Garden of Eden, hence the logo of the apple with a bite out of it and the price of the first Apple computer being $666.

This is perfect. I never agreed with his corporate policies and loathed to buy any apple products, but I will say he was one of the most successful Americans I can think of regardless.

So was Henry Ford. The master of mass production and hero of the US economy.

But there can be no doubt that he was a fascist when it came to work ethic.

As yamu said. It is a difference to speak the truth or to "insult" someone. I mean otherwise we could pretty much forget all about history. Or does anyone think Caesar (the historical person) was not a mass murder which killed for greed ?

Curious if the same counts for Hitler and Stalin.

Hitler and Stalin killed Millions of people.

Steve Jobs made mediocre tech products

They also had to put bars on the Apple factory windows in China to keep people from jumping out to commit suicide.
