Terminator 4: Salvation

This looks awesome.

Doesn't feel like a Terminator but still could be a kick ass movie. Anyways, if Bale is in it, I'm watching it.

EDIT
Just found some pretty disturbing details. Apart from Bale, the cast is full of total wankers and the director is someone named McG, whose past works are mostly music videos and Charlie's Angels. That's so sucky.

I think it feels more like Terminator than Terminator 3 did. That movie slipped so far into parody that the awesome ending barely redeemed it. I'm stoked about finally seeing the future war.

McG has a silly name and he admits it, and he doesn't really have that much experience (though Charlie's Angels is a guilty pleasure), but he has a love for the source material and everything I've seen him say in interviews gives me some faith. This trailer and Bale's involvement cement that faith.

As for the cast being full of total wankers, Sam Worthington seems to be pretty promising. He also comes with the full recommendation of James Cameron - so that's good enough for me. He's playing a Terminator. Helena Bonham Carter is involved and she's a fine actress. Common is cool and after seeing him in Wanted and Smokin' Aces I'm excited to see him sink his teeth into some real material. I also like Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese.

Oh, and this guy is replacing Arnold as the T-800:

Yeah, I'm sold.

This Trailer/Teaser sucks donkey balls. The frequent cuts make my eyes hurt, the "bad radio voice" makes my ears bleed. And you don't actually see anything.

Yeah, you're right on here. A new Terminator movie with Christian Bale as Connor fighting the machines in the future? I really want to like that, but the trailer made me skeptical.

I liked Reign of Fire. It has an original concept, good acting, focused directing, and fulfills its modest promise completely without trying to be anything it's not. A nice flick.

Im with the rest in saying that if Bale is in it, its defenitely worth seeing. I mean I grew up in the late 80's when robotics and computers brought about possibilities both hopeful and scary. Theres not really enough in the trailer but so far this future war doesn't look anything like the future wars in 1 and 2.

Since future has been re-weritten I can understand but still.

Also to the comment about human size. I think its because we all want to see inside SKYNET and what makes it run.

I mean whats cooler in this scenario:

After breaking through rings of automated defenses, John Connor sees a laptop/desktop/big server housed in some titanium shack.......

Or

After breakign through rings of automated defenses, John Connor must still brave the scary bombed out husk of NORAD, fight through even more automated defenses/booty traps/whatever, finds some kind of journal or computer entry on how to shut down SKYNET, get into the control center for another epic battle, then shutdown SKYNET for good. Problem is, SKYNET is integrated into the entire complex so that poses just another challenge.

problem is that they stated in the end of 3rd movie that skynet had basically become the internet

Interesting so technically we wouldn't have a movie. If SKYNET was the internet and it was smart enough, there would be no way that Tech-Com could win.

I hope you're right Malky. I don't know who worthington is but he looks pretty wimpy to be a Terminator but who knows. The focus will probably shift from a terminator more towards Bale's Connor so Arnol'd replacement doesn't bother me, he looks buff enough.

I agree that T3 didn't feel like a terminator at all.

I know about th Fan fic site. The details on it are staggering. Shield's is a damn Terminator Boon to humanity!

I've heard that the plot totally sucks. I'm not kidding. In short: John Conner dies and he is replaced by a cyborg that looks exactly like him who eventually gets send into the past. Ta-da! That's it. That and lots of pseudo-philosophical dialogues about how the future can not be changed, that what has to happen eventually happens and all that other sad, depressing crap we know is true but rather not be rememebered about. Matrix dialogues, in short. And you gotta hate those godawful Matrix dialogues.

Oh, and I also heard that Bale's manager thought it was a bad idea for him to do this movie, but Bale insisted.

I'm sure that's a promising sign.

I'm starting to get a little tired of Bale already, to be honest.

That said, McG still sucks, but can't go wrong with someone named Kickinger playing the terminator.

Also, where are all these zany rumours coming from?

Bale + Terminator + Post-apoc

I just came.

And yeah, I also like Reign of Fire.

EDIT: About SkyNet building human-friendly factories: an interesting take on the subject is shown in the polish RPG Neuroshima, which is also (partially) about the man/machine struggle - post-nuclear Americans against the Juggernaut, a monstrous SkyNet-esque entity that wages war against humanity.

The point is, the Juggernaut isn't sane - he is an artificial intelligence, but he is completely, and utterly insane to speak in human terms. Robots aren't all built uniformly - there are milions of variations, products of Juggernaut's personalities.

I always imagined SkyNet as a similiar entity - at the beginning pure and clean, but as soon as he started assimilating all available data, the entire global communications network, finding logical errors in his programming and attempting to compensate, he started slipping into insanity.

And his insanity being the reason he hasn't been able to obliterate humanity.

Nothing wrong with an actor being prolific, as long as he does solid movies. Thus far, Bale has a pretty impressive track record. After TDK breaking every record in the known universe (it will dethrone Titanic, this I'm sure of), he's going to be a household name... we'll see if that takes him up or down.

I've heard the rumor about the ending a few times now, as early as two months ago. I think it came from a "reliable source" like Ain't It Cool News ( ).

That being said, I don't think the rumored ending seems terrible. I kind of dig the idea of Connor becoming what he's fought with and against so many times.

There is a problem with over-exposure, tho', especially when an actor jumps from one tormented-soul role into another.

TDK is going to dethrone Titanic? Or you joking? I know it broke some box office records - but that's nothing special anymore, box-office records are broken every year. Still, a super hero flick dethroning Titanic, a 1.8 billion USD revenue film?

It'll take it a few years, at least.

Nah. I know it is Terminator's "thing" to bring in that kind of shit - Connor's man travels back in time to become Connor's father, Terminator-villain becomes Terminator-hero and Terminator-killer becomes Terminator-bodyguard - but it'd definitely be one too many.

True enough.

But really, if someone offers you the role of future-bad-ass-savior-of-mankind John fucking Connor - you take it.

This is the John Connor we've wanted to see since hearing about him in the first movie, no?

Can't wait.

Yeah, you're right about Bale, BN. I like him in many ways, but it would be nice to have some space between his movies, and a little variation. It sure seems like he has the ability to pull off something different - or are we all decieved?

If this Terminator movie comes off bad, that would be exceptional over-exposure. Playing the same kind of role in movies that get worse and worse is Sylvester Stallone territory.

It occurs to me Scarlett Johansson should be having the same issue of over-exposure as Bale, also playing the same role in quick-succession back-to-back films. But then again, Scarlett is a lot more pleasant to look at than Bale.

I dunno, he's been cast as a whiny kid so consistently now it'll be hard to imagine him as anything else

Oh. My. God... This, this actually looks like it will be good (given the actors)... On a related note... Where is my Summer Glau!?

I guess I am the only one here who is not looking forwards to a new Terminator movie.

They already ruined the Aliens, Predator, and Robocop franchise, actually they ruined the Terminator franchise already with that godawful T3 and a series, but please let it rest, let it go.

Look back at it with fond memories and don't try to bring it back in a Frankenstein like way.
Instead create new movie franchises we can love just as much.
