The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Not gonna believe words here.

It was words that convinced people that Oblivion was impressive.

I want pictures and gameplay.

Gamepictures and ureplay.

"Seeing lots of speculation about #tesv game engine. It's brand new... and it's spectacular!"

Yeah, they're using a completely new engine.

Pics or it didn't happen. We must have proof.

I really doubt that they will get more shooty, because honestly they themselves should have recognized that they are unable (as most gamestudios seem to be) to implement nice shooter-like medieval games, most often the feeling of the weapons and so on sucks...

I mean they didn't even managed to add spears to Oblivion (as far as i remember they said it didn't feel right or something like that). Nor were they able to implement fighting from Horsebacks -_-

If they'd tried to make it more shootier i hope they spoke to the guys of TaleWorlds (you know the developers of Mount&Blade), who get this medieval fighting at least somewhat right.

I actually have hopes for combat to be somewhat good. Zenimax bought Arkane studios. I hope the reason is to help with TESV.

Huh. Interesting. So I was right about my disdain of the idea of them using Gamebryo again after all.

What does 'BGS' stand for? (refering to the bethsoft forums thread).

Bethesda Game Softworks. Or the like.

Why don't we merge this thread with the one in General Gaming?

On topic, Bethesda does tend to lie but they mentioned before that they had a new engine for the new game. Also, they acknowledged that they needed to improve animations and even Gamebryo is capable of those:

And also, don't forget that Zenimax bought Arkane, who were responsible for Dark Messiah, so combat may actually end up being good, albeit more actiony, but we already know that to be the case.

Oh and also:

Ahh okay thank's for enlightening me. Man i should go and let some doc check my head or soemthing, i should've been able to figure that myself ;)

Looking forward to see this new engine.
I mean Bethesda doesn't seem to be a developer who could make great games with an finished engine... but again i'm to sceptical i guess.

"It's an all new graphics and gameplay engine internal to BGS"

Wait wait. "Internal" means that the Beth programmers themselves made it? Because if that's the case I don't know if it's good news...

Internal might be internal to the publisher. It might be they recoded Gamebryo so much they consider it new and internal. It's still vague

coz then it'd no longer by on the frontpage, while the general gaming thread is for the longterm.

Meh, come on. They call it internal simply because Gamebryo went kaputt (or maybe they bought internally some rights or something similar) so they now call it their own. Its same old shit as gamebryo. Just enhanced.

As for "brand new", hey! It's Bethesda that we are talking about. What's their def. of "brand new"? It could be anything "that isn't like that before". They lied before, why do you think they wouldn't lie again?

Thinking about it, I really don't know if there is any juice to be squeezed from "next gen" consoles to parry 2011 PCs. I mean, I'll be running like 8 core cpu, 12 GB ram, etc by that time - and x360 will still be... well x360.

I was kind of hoping they would do Black Marsh... Still, this sounds better than "oblivion 2", albeit dragons and nords already stink of overused, generic shit to me. Having said that , seeing as how, in recent years, there have been quite a few successful RPG's with solide mechanics, i have decently high hopes for this to be a pretty decent game. Sure, the VO will be bad, coherency of the world - nonexistent, main story dull and probably pretty stupid, but i think they should at least bring some variety to the dialogues, choices, consiquences etc. Of course, hopping for something exotic, like morrowind, is out of the question. And it's a real shame too, seing as how the lore of elder scrolls contains huge potential.

OK, Oblivion and F3 sucked big time. BUT, outside of wichers enchanted edition, name ONE good RPG in the last couple of years... none? Whether we like it or not, beth(and, hopefully, Obsidian) is our only source for even somehow playable RPGs on the coming years. Happy times... gonna hang myself any day now.
