A Cimarron Arms Thunderer in .44 special - nickle plated with a 4 5/8" barrel, and a birdshead grip. This is a replica of the Colt 1871 birdshead manufactured by Uberti Arms of Italy

My thoughts exactly mobucks. Still, you have some nice hardware DB. However, that's coming from someone who doesn't really know the first thing about guns, so it's mostly the uneducated, raw, would-be gun-nut in me that is talking.

dude you honestly get a new gun like every 3 weeks
what about college for your kids?

a) my daughter has a full ride academic scholarship ( I bought her a new car to say thank you for saving me a fortune ) she is currently on the dean's list with straight A's and she's been doing that since the 8th grade. She is now a Junior in college.

b) my son intends to join the military and have them pay for his education - which is what I did ( nobody paid for my college education ) ( I bought him a truck ) he is currently on the dean's list in his junior year in high school.

c) my opinion is that you have more invested in your education when you pay for it yourself

d) my kids lack for nothing, I spoil them rotten because they are great kids who don't get into trouble, get good grades, and are good people in general.

e) I have alot of disposable income baby. Last year I made 102k and my wife made over 50k. This year looks to be better so far.

f) yes, I have a dog.

Roscoe likes soap operas on univision and posting on facebook. He is a Jack Russell Terrorist and thinks he's 10' tall and bulletproof.

Don't fuck with Roscoe

g) I have about 18k in my gun collection. This year I've bought 4 thus far, last year I bought 2, and the year before I bought 1 firearm. Hardly one firearm every three weeks...

Bitches.

Cool dog! 8-)

I'm saving up for my 5th gun now. I want to build an AK-74 -I just need a parts kit and several r922 parts. :)

I've actually been thinking about downsizing to what I consider the top 25 of what I have and maybe investing what I make in selling to finance 1 or 2 very serious additions to the arsenal.

Like an LMT or a LWRC or even the DPMS .308 sass with a couple of upgrades. Maybe a nice WWII nazi artillery luger.

That kind of thing. Until I see the next thing I want on gunbroker....

Im thinking of having a Fallout Rifle made... possibly a mix of the FO3 Rifle (but not in .32 caliber) and one of these.
It will have to have an overall legal length and a 16+" barrel

These pix are supposedly crudely made japanese rifles in 8mm Nambu pistol caliber.

I am thinking something along the lines of a 9mm bolt action rifle (possibly a converted .223 bolt)

I am having the rifle either made from an existing receiver, or it will be made using a serial numbered Sten tube (reduced ID tube).
I am betting that many of the sten parts could be re used. A bolt handle could be placed on the sten bolt and a rudimentary locking lug could be cut into the receiver to hold the bolt closed.

It will have a hammer and trigger group from an SKS, VZ-52, AK or AR15.

Don't own any guns, but I'm currently in the process of fixing that. I've been looking for a nice home defense weapon and the Remington 870 seems to be the most recommended as far as shotguns go. I couldn't find nearly the same level of consensus on pistols, and they don't seem terribly attractive as a home defense solution for a novice.

I'll probably end up going with an 870 similar to this one:

Pffft, it's hard to go wrong with a home defense shotgun. Rem 870, Mossberg 500/590, Winchester 1300, Ithaca 37,... They'll all get the job done.

As for using pistols for home defense as a novice? Well, I hope you realize that it's not easy safely clearing a house with a shotgun and that a shotgun does not have extreme spread that will magically make up for your lack of training & practise.

I presume you mean the IZH-81KM if you say 5 shell magazines? That's a fairly uncommon shotgun (at least here). How do you like it?

Its a fairly uncommon shotgun in the USA as well.
Most of them were turned into Short Barrel Shotguns (NFA tax stamp required) in the late 1990s because they would hold 6 rounds rather than the 3 of Surbu body guard shotguns and would fit under someones jacket. (this was before Tromix and RJF started playing around with Saiga 12s

The 81 works fine. I have never had any problems with it.
I added a ventilated barrel shroud to it.
Other than the added shroud, its stock and has the shorter barrel 20" IIRC (I have not measured it in14-15 years)
The only problem with it is that the 5rd magazines are $100~150 plus each and are not imported.

Also since the shotgun is a pump action and based on a tube fed pump, the follower for the magazine acts like the lift mechanism from the pump, so I cant just modify Saiga mags to work in it. I have to have new followers made to fit the saiga mags and then modify the mags to lock up in the 81.

I'm aware of that and will definitely be putting in time on a range to get comfortable with it. All the research in the world won't make up for a lack of experience.

I was referring to ease of use in relation to stopping power and shot placement. A single shot to the midsection with 00 buck should put someone on the ground, while I couldn't guarantee the same effect with a small/medium caliber pistol and I won't fool myself into thinking I could pull off a headshot in the dark in a situation where I've got a split second to react.

Smaller shot will do just as good inside of a house and wont over penetrate (if you are worried you may miss)

Just playing around, I have seen the plastic wadding and shot holders pass clean through hollow core doors and dry wall.
