The Guns and Ammo Thread

I'm a gunowner. How is posting a humorous gun related joke - trolling for an argument?

Just curious as to how you reach the conclusion that my post was an attempt at "trolling"...

Right, posting a context-less, provocative quote is obviously not an attempt at trolling.

Stick to the topic of the thread. You want to discuss stuff like that, make a new thread.

I'm a gun owner. I like this thread. I like to see other gun owners posting in it. I enjoy talking about guns and their many uses.

I'm currently considering reducing the number of firearms I own, to increase the overall quality of my collection. In other words, I plan on selling three or four lesser guns from my collection to acquire a higher-end firearm.

As to your statement, the joke I posted is pro-gun, as is this thread. The joke referred to guns. Please explain for me how that could possibly be construed as "context-less" and "provocative"?

I merely posted something I thought my fellow gun owners would appreciate as I do, in the only thread on this forum where it is not out of context.

Why do you consider it provocative? I'm truly at a loss to understand how you come to that conclusion.

I'm not going to discuss this any further, especially not in this thread where I can't split anything because of the size of it. Decision's been made. Move on.

Sure thing Sander. Do you consider buxbaum's post out of context or provocative? I mean it's not about guns and it's an insult and a personal attack on another poster. I'm pretty sure he is not a gun owner...

This is an air rifle that shoots pellets of the .177 caliber. It uses a spring action system to charge the chamber with air.

I bought it to keep my rifle target shooting skills up while on the road. I have been going to the pistol shooting range that Kharn and i went to during his New Orleans visit. That's great for what it is, but rifle shooting is a different set of skills that must be maintained as well.

With the air rifle, I can plink at cans or targets in the rv park I stay at without breaking any laws or endangering anyone with a real rifle that shoots actual bullets. Even a .22 rifle can be an issue without the proper backstop to stop the round from traveling too far.

It's fairly acurate, even with the cheap umarex scope and with 1000fps it' capable of taking small game like rabbits, birds, and squirrels.

For $99.00 from walmart - I couldn't pass it up.

Is that a joke or the description of Spain conquering the Americas?

to the poster of the ump, drool.., i would love a hk usp /ump combo

but cal gun laws make you jump through way too many hoops, damn liberal idiots

It was a joke originally done on Saturday Night Live as one of their "Jack Handy" series. I'm sure they meant it in as an anti-gun meme, but I think it reflects a good reason to be able to defend yourself.

The latest addition to the John Wayne Arsenal of Freedom:

My Safari Arms Matchmaster 5 1911 in .45 acp

Quick update on this gun. I had it bead blasted with walnut media to get all the scratches and slight dings out of it. It had some major scars on the back of the slide and I had my gunsmith re-profile the slide (grind the dents, scars, scratches out).

I added the compensator to the front, I replaced the rear novak sight with the correct bomar-style sight from the factory. I bought two Chip McCormick 8-round magazines to replace the cheap 7-round mag that came with the gun (the spring was slack and it wasn't stainless steel). I also upgraded the barrel after discovering the original had been over-throated and was causing some alarming issues with spent shell casings.

I've bought several goodies that are not installed yet including an extended mag well in stainless, a Smith and Alexander arched mainspring housing and a beautiful set of grips to replace the ugly grips that came with the pistol.

The grips should have just dropped right on, but the guy who made them must have had his hole spacing off, so now I am cautiously filing them to make them work. Which is kinda terrifying, I'd hate to destroy such pretty wood. They are Amboyna Burl and the picture does not do them justice - like petrified fire.

Safari makes a left handed .45...

I always wanted a matched pair, one that threw empties in each direction... but I dont have $5k for the left handed model (or left handed magazines (follower is mirror of regular mag)

Safari Arms was bought up by Olympic Arms and it saddens me to say that their customer service on their pistols sucks major monkey ass. (don't know about their rifle department).

They advertise a great parts kit for the Matchmaster 5 that would have saved me a ton of time, effort, and money. They also list it as "in stock" on their website. So I ordered it the same day I ordered all my other parts from Brownell's.

Two days later, all the parts I had ordered from Brownell's arrived. Two weeks later, nothing from Olympic Arms Parts Department, so I called. The surly parts guy said the parts were on back-order (all seven parts?!) and he had no idea how long it would be before they could ship, maybe 3-4 weeks.

Two months later, I called again - same story. The next two times I called over the next month, no answer on the phone, not even a 'leave your message at the tone' option.

I then sent a certified letter of complaint to get my money back - which they did, two weeks later. Fuck those guys.

I've heard similar stories from three gun vendors who say the typical wait is 2-3 months from Olympic Arms. That's just crazy in this day and age. Btw - don't list shit as in-stock, when it clearly isn't. (they still show the parts kit as 'in-stock' on their webpage.

I don't know what the quality is of the Matchmaster they produce now, but I'm kinda glad the serial number on mine indicates it was made by Safari Arms.

Watcha building now, Willis?

@duke: Thanks, I think I'm in love with it. I had the trigger pull set at 1.75 pounds - so it's very light and there is no travel.

@clercqer: To each their own, but I wanted that set-up on it, ever since I saw the one Angelina Jolie carried in the movie 'Wanted'. I think it looks badass. Alsplustoo - opinions are like assholes, everyone thinks yours stinks...

Ain't she purty?

I was able to get the grips to fit, I installed the stainless hexhead screws, and I was able to get the extended magwell on. It's almost too pretty to shoot. I'm a very happy camper.

The upgraded parts list:

Parrish bushing compensator
Kensight rear sight
Ed Brown match barrel
Ed Brown 2-piece guide rod system
Chip McCormick 8-round magazine (2)
Wilson Combat stainless steel magwell extension
Wilson Combat stainless steel hexhead grip screws
Custom amboyna burl wood grips
Smith & Alexander arched main spring housing (not installed, yet)

(edited to add parts list and a much better photo)

Been a while since I posted here. This is the newest one, a reproduction of a Colt 1878 Coach Gun in 12 gauge. I re-did the finish to look old and worn in and I'm going to refinish and reshape the stock so it looks more period correct.

Classic, InTheOnlineAsbestosSuit.

Meanwhile in Belgistan, they've decided to enact a ban of "abnormally high capacity magazines" this fall. Yay!
No high cap magazines were ever used in spree killings here, but let's ban everything just to be on the safe side.

Also, hicap doesn't depend on the gun. Any centerfire with magazines over 30 rounds will be illegal. Like the PPsh, the Spectre, the Suomi, the RPK, the Galil 40 rounder, etc.
For pistols hicap is more than 20 rounds...
Derp.

That is one sexy 1911 db. The grips are beautiful. Plan on getting a skeletonized trigger to finish the 'Wanted' look?

20z9X.jpg

Picked this up last month as my CCW. Now I'm looking for a full-size nightstand handgun/range toy. Something like a pt92 or cz75.

Nice shotgun.

@suaside - is there a grandfather clause or is everything on the list now illegal?

@phil - The gun from wanted had the two small holes in the trigger, but wasn't skeletonized. I've been playing with the idea but have not decided on a style?

Any suggestions?

Your 1911 looks very smooth/curvy, while (A) is pretty jagged. The Dlask would fit it better in my opinion. The holes also match the hammer, which is a nice touch.

@phil - I agree, and part of my desire to go with a skeletonized trigger would be to match the hammer. Damn, now I have to go buy the Dlask...

But Sua! Don't you know high capacity magazines cause spree killings and serve no useful self-defense purpose?!

"When you use a 45. you don't need a high capacity magazine" - 45. is better than 9mm Guy.
