The Guns and Ammo Thread

Wooz, you Poles really took the whole "Invasion in 1939" thing hard didn't you? That rifle seems to have been born out of that mentality. Looks great.

And no, not skip the 47. The 74's round doesn't have the knockdown power i want to put on targets that are that close to me.

that vid is full of shit. anyone with any experience with both guns will tell you that. if you cant tell the bullshit from the truth in the vid, just visit any decent online gun forum (THR, TFL,...) and read the topics about it.

Why not skip the 47 all together and go to the 74? despite the orange magazines.... What genious, ORANGE!
because the 74 has big trouble with heavy foilage in wooded areas. the 5.45mm is a tumbler and when penetrating cover, it is even less likely to cause damage than the 5.56mm (which was one of the big gripes in Vietnam when they used the older variants of that ammo, today you can get heavier 5.56mm, which preforms better under those conditions).

still, this is why at close range, many still prefer the 7.62x39, because it's heavy & can punch through stuff a lot easier. it however suffers from extreme bullet drop at longer ranges, making it rather ineffective at that.

pfft 5.56mm NATO in a modified AK... *shrug*

kinda beats the purpose in my book.

still, it appears to be able to hold it's own in Iraq and i've heard good things about it, but it's just not for me...

I'll recommended aged but still very good Sa-58. High quality, accurate, dismantled in 1 minute, rate of fire 800 rounds/min!!! I have one at home for a joy.

a good weapon, but i dislike the esthetics (they wouldnt matter to me obviously if i was a soldier, but i'm a recreative shooter, so it also factors in).

regardless, CZ makes very good weapons.

Yeah I know. They seemed to be biased toward the M16 to make Americans feel good about themselves. And I know for a fact the AK can make a decent shot at that range. Though I still would prefer the 74 at range since the muzzle velocity is greater. The only positive video I could find about the AK-47 is this one... which for some reason the narrators description makes me want to play fallout over again. *note* "If I had to go to an alien world.... If western Civilization broke down....."

And the "more tanks than god".... wheres my red alert cd?

i still find it so goddamn odd that it doesnt have a real receiver cover... the whole thing goes open and shut.

you can hit stuff at 400m, though the arc is so high, you cant possibly aim.

still, for oldskool volley fire, it should work.

Some guy posted this on HL2.net

For me it looks overly complicated, bulky, inefficent and downright sucky.

I'm not sure what that thing even is. It looks like an air gun with either great aspirations or a serious case of multiple personality disorder.

I see a faux MP5 reciever, and AR-15 cary handle and CAR stock, two (?) verticle grips, with one mounted on the faux suppressor(?!?)

In general, when you add weight to the barrel, like adding a suppressor, you cause a change in barrel harmonics and point of impact. In fact, a lot of folks go to great lengths to keep their barrels "free floated" , with no weight on the barrel from the receiver forward. Also, I can assure you that suppressors get quite hot. I can light a cigarette off of my 9mm suppressor after a couple of mags. Not sure I'd want my hand that close to the heat or to the end of the barrel. Also not sure how you can put the magazine forward of the locking bolt.

In summation, it's a fake.

Generally, I like to tack things on to my rifle only when I am likely to need them. Every now and then, however, I decide to throw a bunch of stuff on them and get a little arm workout with my marksmanship practice...
