Maybe the asians who got screwed with exclusion acts and deadly railroad work and internment camps, will also get a mention on the dollar too.

I don't disagree with what you're saying, except for when you said "justice came too late". I don't think justice has an expiration date. For example I completely support Nazi hunters looking for those involved with the Holocaust, even though most of those Nazis are now in their 90s. To me it can never be too late to dispense justice. Saddam reaped what he sowed. I have no doubt that someday every country will have to face up to the crimes they've committed. It's just a fact of life.
Another fact of life is to consider the effects of your actions, to weigh up the pros and cons. Most of us here can see the reason for hunting Nazi criminals. But WW2 was lost by the Germans. We are looking at a case that is basically history. Where as you have to ask your self what you would gain and lose by invading Iraq and getting rid of Saddam, for the crimes he commeinted in the 1970s and 80s.
I hate to say it, because I want people like Saddam, Gadaffi or Assad to dissapear as much like everyone else. But I really can't say if such actions would actually lead to an improvement or not. Life is not a comic book with clear super heroes and villains where Superman comes in to beat Lex Luthor and save the day. There are so many nuances to consider. Let us simply take a look at how the situation is today, and you can't help it, but ask your self, was it worth it? And I think, it simply wasn't.

There is a hell lot of killing goin on, right now, as we writte in this topic. But why don't we intervene in all of those cases? Why don't we see right now US soldiers invading Burma to protect the muslims getting killed by buddhists? Why don't we stop the beheading of muslims in parts of Africa by militant christians? There are also currently tens of thousands of Muslims fleeing from Christian militias in the Central African Republic.

This isn't to do with lex Luther or the Muslims in CAR, don't derail this please
What are you talking about? Crni's post relates to the lack of clear villains in the Iraq war (among other wars/conflicts), it relates directly to the conversation taking place.
Dude, you have to stop trying to police these forums so much, let topics diverge with conversation.

I have not got a problem with it diverging like that, but lets not let it go to far. Its my thread, and I want it OT.

Ugh people who talk about this stuff who clearly didn't go to school for this is making my brain hurt. Taking history and policy cues from a freelance graphic designer is like taking diet advice from a mechanic.

I've studied Iraq war, the war in Afghanistan etc. quite a bit and I think everyone should be allowed to have an opinion about them. I am very interested to hear what, say, a graphic artist, a hairdresser or an ichthyologist thinks about the Iraq war.

That's not how forums or forum threads work, really. Nothing stays on topic, ever.
I know, but its not unreasonable to say that the thread I started about Iraq to stay on Iraq. I don't want it to turn into another communists enforcing ideology thread which derailed from communism to a flame war about the welfare state.

You just don't start a politics thread on any forum and not expect any devolution. I'm sorry, that's just naive, and no amount of backseat-moderation and pleading for staying on-topic will ever suffice.

If you think the situation in Iraq and our decision where and why we intervene, doesn't have at least something to do with religion and Islam, then you're naive. I never said it would be the only point to consider, or that it would be even the most important reason.

Sure I concede to you guys on that one then

You gotta admit that the shock and awe bombardment was badass:

Sure I concede to you guys on that one then, I guess your right Crni and Hass, I'll stop trying to moderate it.

You gotta admit that the shock and awe bombardment was badass though:

not so badass when there is white phosphorus involved

Never supported the war. I saw it as a feeble attempt to place blame on somebody for 9/11 and for supplying the terrorists. So he claims they have WMDs.

As badass like to watch Mike Tyson beat the shit out of a three year old.

I don't even really know why we call any of those engagements really a "war". When was the last time the US was really in a war?
