I read a review of the film where a female reviewer said that Arthur “listens to Zazie Beet’s character with an air of entitled fascination.”

So basically she’s mad that Arthur listens to the woman he’s into and seems to care about what she has to say. Projecting your relationship problems much?

If I can find the article link I’ll post it here.

I mean that whole element with the girlfriend was pretty half baked in general. Without going into spoilers.

Pros of the movie:
It casts focus on themes of social inequality, the destruction of social programs as conducive to misery, crime and violence.
Cons: goes the enlightened centrist route of vilifying protest.
Most characters are cartoonishly assholish.
The whole deal with the girlfriend was very dumb.

I don't particularly agree with this because I felt they were believable based on my personal experiences living in Atlanta. Falling Down is far more guilty of this than Joker is.

Some drunk guys decide to throw fries at a woman at random in a subway and then just beat the shit out of a random passerby often? I don't doubt this might happen somewhere but for a narrative is all Hookey.
Same with the lady getting so agressive about Arthur making her child laugh in the bus.
Or how Thomas Wayne just decks him in the face and gloats.

Again, people can be really assholish in real life, but in a narrative this happening so often makes it really cartoonish.

I think it's fully original. The movie takes a few details and cues from older comics, but for the most part is a completely original story. One of it's strong points.

To be honest, Thomas Wayne being a total asshole is one of my favorite takes on the character, along with the Telltale “secretly a cutthroat mob associate” version of him. The idea that Thomas is squeaky clean and perfect and that’s why Bruce is Batman was always bullshit in my eyes.

I’m honestly curious to see what kind of Batman the Joker version of Thomas would produce...

I am okay with the idea of Thomas Wayne being a douche, I just want a little bit of subtlety.

It's really not though. I think you're over simplifying what actually happens in the movie and the city Arthur lives in. In Atlanta, shit like this happens for much less. You look at someone the wrong way on a MARTA train and you're liable to get your ass beat. Speaking as a parent, I would have had the same reaction to Arthur engaging my kid because there is clearly something wrong with him. Given the accusations that Arthur was making towards Wayne, and the fact that Arthur had been on his property and spoken with his kid without his consent, that punch to the face was more than justified. I would have likely handled the situation similarly.

Thomas Wayne isn't really a dick in this. He makes one really bad statement in response to his employees being murdered and that's it, but because this story is told from Arthur's perspective, we're supposed to perceive that everyone is being a dick to him. Outside of the two beatings he receives, the funding for his mental health care being cut, and his mother's delusions, everything else that happens to him is essentially his own fault.

Joker is a half-baked Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy, which means it's actually not terrible because it's ripping off much better movies.

I just am annoyed they try to combine shooting incels and Occupy.

Joker is actually more fleshed out plotwise than Taxi Driver.

I prefer Taxi Driver but Joker is on the good list.

So it's worth torrenting eh...any chance of a follow up film? Just imagine if they had the courage to film it in black and white. I will seek...

Let's just say: I'd go and watch it a fifth time, but there's so much diazepam and benzo in my body, I'd probably keep dozing off like I did the fourth time I went to see it.
And once this movie hits the shelves, I'll buy the dvd, the steelbook case dvd, the special edition dvd and the two-disc special edition dvd. Fuck it, this may be the movie that makes me buy a Blu-Ray player so I can buy the Blu-Ray disc, the steelbook case Blu-Ray disc, the special edition Blu-Ray disc and the two-disc special edition Blu-Ray disc.
THAT'S HOW FUCKING GOOD THIS MOVIE IS.

Don't take my word for it. Just follow the dollars:
It's the first R-rated movie to ever hit a $1 billion box office worldwide EXCLUDING China. And because the movie only took $55 million to make it's actually more profitable than Avengers: Endgame (which did release in China).
It's one of those movies students will write essays about twenty years from now.

It was depressing me, but I will finish it.

Ok. It was pretty good. Not watch it five times in a theater good, but pretty good.

The movie just became even more awesome to me because despite assholes like you torrenting it, it made $1 billion. Was it in amazing 480p or glorious 720p?
