No, you said not to expect Fallout if people want to play it. I said people should expect Fallout because the marketing wants people to expect Fallout and there's no point in playing if it's not gonna even remotely deliver anything closer to that.

???
And I'm saying that it's a bad idea because the way it was marketed was a bad idea. But the marketing occured like a year and a half ago or whatever so I don't give a shit about the marketing campaign. The game is the game and if someone is going to get the most out of it, they need to disregard that expectation. I don't care about your past expectations in the least because I'm telling the commenter it would be best to NOT expect that. Saying "do expect it because they said so despite that making it worse" is just silly. If you want to criticize the marketing, fine, but come on.

Melee wasn't marketed as a competitive game, but guess what. It doesn't matter what the intention was. What matters is the game. And people enjoying the game for the product that it is is more important than comparing it to a trailer. Them not living up to that is irrelevant to an objective view of the game.

Because marketing fucking matters and it's how the game is gonna be perceived by people. How much shit we give Todd Howard for his lies, but then suddenly conveniently we turn a blind eye at it when other companies do it? I'm not telling people to not get the most out of it, but it's ridiculous to claim people shouldn't expect Fallout when the marketing wants people to.

And that's exactly the opposite of what happened with Outer Worlds and i don't see how it's relevant here (If Melee was advertised as a competitive, then the comparison would have been valid). Sakurai did say Melee wasn't mean to be competitive, but finding out that it could actually be is entirely different than finding something out wasn't like it was advertised. They brough it up, they should expect the inevitable comparisons, and those are completely valid in an objective view of the game.

No, marketing MATTERED. It does not matter now. Todd is an outright liar. It's not that he makes games that don't necessarily live up to the standards of their predecessors(though he does that too), it's that he straight up LIES... and is a poor game designer. That doesn't help either.
The Outer Worlds didn't lie. It was from the creators of Fallout and it was an RPG by Obsidian. Big deal. You're talking about how I'm making a false equivalency while making a false equivalency. I am not saying it can't be compared. I'm saying that the layman should know it WON'T live up. And not because anybody lied either.

The trailers didnt lie tho, at least I dont remember them lying. Game has a significant amount of choice in quests, non combat skills can be used in dialogue to complete quests and the like. I think the most the tralers did was time it with Fallout 76 to try and get disgruntled Fallout fans in, but regradless of how much you think it underdelivered the trailers never promised anything that wasnt there. It didnt do a CBP 2077 where they have characters promise things like buying houses, customizing vehicles and being able to take over the city.

Gotta say, despite the trailer being a parody, I really liked the shots they included, with the rocky world with the crystals, and the creature they introduced.

I don't know if any of that will actually be in the game or not or if it was just part of the joke about impressive looking trailers, but I hope so. That may give it some promise.

My biggest grievance with the Outer Worlds by far is that it has a good premise, but it fails to deliver anything interesting. The Marxism in Space concept was pretty cool, and I feel like the quests were good in that regards (Collecting people's funeral fees in advance, distributing stolen medicine, ect.), I also liked the two fictional religions, the capitalism one was pretty funny, and if we're going for a Marxism game the "Material Conditions generate ideology" was a good place to take to the extreme.

But the thing is, everything gets subsumed in to the single overarching theme. Right at the start of the game you're having to choose between the Corporate Town and the Commune (With a "It's not that simple" twist). This is fairly consistent with the rest of the game. Nothing seems to exist outside of the rigid conflict they've created, and while they deliver on the conflict well, it just doesn't have much charm. This is a thing I feel has been a problem with Obsidian games for a while: Pillars of Eternity 2 had very limited interesting things outside of the faction quests, Tyranny made you choose who you're going to side with right at the beggining, ect., in doing so they ironically fail to recognise what made New Vegas good, which is the complex and multifaceted nature of everything.

I've also found increasingly as time goes on, I've become a lot more skeptical of what a game is "delivering" with it's setting, mostly because I've played too many games which I've loved. Nowadays if I play a Sci Fi game, I fully expect it to have some wild crazy shit. Sci Fi is basically a free excuse for devs to go nuts with creativity, and Outer Worlds never really delivered on that: There were a few interesting tidbits, like there was a creature with some unique properties to it's skin or something, but nothing memorable.

If you're going to make a sci fi setting, make use of the fact that if we're playing on alien worlds, creatures can be whatever you want, and the planet can have whatever unique atmosphere you want. Do something cool with that at least.

I had quite the opposite reaction.
Obsidian really should not have bothered with a trailer that told us absolutely nothing other than that Obsidian is making a sequel to The Outer Worlds (what a surprise. Did Obsidian/Microsoft really think we gamers did not expect that a sequel would be made after hyping this as a new franchise?)

If anything, this rather showed how full Obsidian is of itself, and thinking that Rick and Morty style humor is still relevant.

As for the trailer, my thoughts were "generic sci fi shooter on other planet" before we saw the mascot of The Outer Worlds and the title, though I suspected when I saw the person in the space suit that looked like the suit from OW1, going through the same animation of the character in the trailer of OW1.
Took the words out of my mouth. Maybe it is just the cynical Pacific Northwesterner in me but I am getting really sick of the Marvel, Rick & Morty humor that you see a lot from studios out in California. It has worn out its welcome. A game that is a satire about corporatism and Marxism sounds interesting but I doubt Obsidian will do it well because:
1. Microsoft is one of the biggest corporations in the world and I doubt they would want anybody to say anything bad about them or make them look bad.
2. Most Western game devs are Marxist, SJW degenerates who I doubt would portray anything negative at all about their political beliefs because that is how infantile and tribalistic many people in America are now. We can't have a serious conversation, reflection or debate anymore. Its, "My beliefs are always right and everyone else is wrong!" mentally. I expect nothing but cringe.

Overall I expect this game to be nothing but cringe just like the first game. Obsidian hasn't made a good game since New Vegas. The fact that some of you here still have hope that a sequel to a terrible game will be good makes me want to facepalm. Guess some lessons are harder for some people to learn.

Saying "everyone is tribalistic" after calling people degenerates is an amazing bit of irony lmao.

"A major corporation that's reliant on Capitalism wouldn't handle topics of Marxism and Capitalism" coming right before "Game devs are all Marxists who won't accept any alternatives to their ideas" is also a pretty funny one.

This is a pretty good critique, honestly. The issue with the Outer Worlds is in just how shallow and simple it can be. When you do compare it to NV, there is 0 competition. NV had various differing factions, all with their unique flaws and visions. Completing a quest in favor of the NCR in one scenario would lead to totally different results than if you helped them in a different quest. In Outer Worlds, the consequences of Corporation vs rogue faction always meant the same thing and often played out the same in a formulaic way. So if you sided with one faction on the first region, you'd likely just do the same on the next. If you picked a 3rd comprise, you'd likely just keep compromising.

Still mad I see that I made fun of your shit tastes? Also, the game industry is made of of degenerates. That's is not just me saying it but a lot of Twitch and OnlyFans thots talk about how a lot of guys in tech and the game industry are their biggest donors and they request them to do a lot of weird shit.

This is a game made by a California studio. What political beliefs do you think the majority of the dev time are going to have? Getting so tired of faggots who don't live in the West Coast thinking they know everything about the politics here. Here is the thing about the West Coast. You have corporatism and Marxism here. Both sides are similar in that they both won't accept any alternatives at all to their beliefs. I know this because I have talk and interacted with many of the people of the West Coast unlike you and that lesbian fetishists Walp. Don't worry. I am sure that useless Philosophy degree you have will be good for something.

I think someone is still angry lmao.

Anyway I agree with Jorge's post, game does feel too over focused, either because of lack of budget or time, scope is limited, but it still delivered on some good moments, I personally enjoyed both Parvati and Max quest and characters, specially Max, antoehr one of the issues I have with it is that the main quest kinda ends abruptly, haven't tried the DLC yet.

Of course because your taste suck. You thought the ending to Attack on Titan was good and that the fetish coom buffet of TLoU2 was good. Why should anybody trust you?

See you in my notifications having another night long rage fit
Yeah, no, I got my digs in. Overall to anybody new here don't trust Walp when he says a game is good. Odds are that it is not and is either a lesbian fetish porn or a coomer buffet.

It's starting now

Anyway, trailer is whatever, without even a release year this juste means they signed a contract yo start development, probably won't see it for 3 years at least. Most of Microsoft trailers had no release date at all.

Lmao was TLOU2 THAT bad?

I haven't touched a Naughty Dog came since Jak 3 and it's starting to feel more boastable... despite how autistic that sounds.
