The Outer Worlds information overload

Wow....
For a game with no romance options, the press has spent a surprising amount of time talking about it?

In case anyone actually cares about this, you should know that Steam seems to have recently relaxed their restrictions on pornography. So you've now got that option in addition to the entire rest of the Internet.
Steam also banned skimpy/sexy games that show characters that look or are represented as minors. :lmao:
Some people were outraged apparently. :lmao:

God forbid Steam want to curate anything on their own storefront especially something like that. Idiots.

As for the planet thing with The Outer Worlds, all we know is you can go to two planets. We don't know if there's other locations, how big those planets are or how many locations. They did talk about DLC as if they hadn't really been concerned with it yet and they've been worried about the main game. They may have some planned but from what they've told us, they aren't working on any yet. I can't remember where I heard/read that.

Oh man, that sucks. I would've preferred if they just made them invincible or something. At least that would cut less content.
Can't make them invincible, because they can attack you.

**I remember playing Bad Day in La, and it had invincible kids that —usually— always ran from combat, but there were unanticipated exceptions to this, and you could get hostile kids that were unkillable.

Here's an interview with Tim and Leo on this game, Fallout and some other stuff. I haven't read through it because it's long, but I thought you guys might be interested.

Good interview. Couple things that struck me:

- Interviewer mentions that guns in games like Fallout don't feel as good to shoot as an FPS. I actually love the way the guns feel in Fallout 1 and 2, and even Tactics. It's really just down to the sound and animation, I think. There's no reason an interaction in an isometric game has to be less satisfying. Although, maybe he just means new Fallout? I can't tell.

- I have mixed feelings about the decision to show dialogue options that you haven't unlocked. Displaying which options are skill-based often has me feel more like I'm trying to game the system instead of roleplaying.

- Nice to hear that they're not including minigames for things like lockpicking and hacking.

Didn't they say that it only appears if you're close to the skill level to pass it? I guess in a way it could be seen as "I have the feeling I can't say this just quite yet, I need to spend more time to think about this, so I can find the right way of saying it."
If your skill level is too low, the option won't appear so you'll be none the wiser.

I guess it all depends if by "close to the skill level" is like 1-2 points or 10. :lmao:

I think that's right. That is kind of a decent middle ground. On the other hand, I kind of like not knowing at all which dialogue options are unlocked by skills. Then I kind of feel obligated to choose those ones.

Sure, but that is why these options should not always be the best. Dead Money did a good job in this department.

For Example: If you choose special dialogues with Dean Domino, he will try to kill you inside the casino.

Wes: It's kind of obvious from seeing the game that it's not gonna feel like a Star Wars light side/dark side, or a Mass Effect Paragon/Renegade kind of game.

Tim: It's all grey side.

Leonard: That's something we always do. We can't seem to get away from it. Not that we want to, but that's what appeals to us. The ability to not only be able to make your own decisions and make what choices you want to make, but also not having a clear-cut 'what is the best choice here.'

...so that's why they put karma system in fallout? :)

Iirc, there was no karma system in Fallout 1 to begin with, only General Reputation of some sort. Karma was specifically introduced in Fallout 2, and even then I heard that having Bad Karma would generate a LOT of reaction across the wasteland, like some places putting your wanted poster or something. Dunno if it's vanilla or restored through RP, and I personally haven't experienced it myself, but there you go.

it's called "reputation" but it's just karma with a deceiving name - if it actually was reputation, then first of all, it would be different for different societies and two, it wouldn't be affected by things we do that no one knows about (like stealing without getting caught). the actual reputation system was introduced in f2 and it was a separate thing. so how are the moral choices non-black-white when the game literally tells you that the thing you've just done was good or bad?

Apparently this game has "really good" melee. I'm neutral on this, since I don't usually do melee unless I'm sneaking (which is not often), and even then, I prefer sniping when doing that.

I'm sure this game will offer the ability to never need to melee things like Fallout games have before (barring Fallout 2's tutorial). I think they wanted to emphasize how much better melee will feel in this game than other games like Bethesda games.

The melee in the Bethesda Fallout's just plain sucks, and don't get me started with being sneaky in these games.

I also hope the AI is better than those games, because I can't tell you how many times I've been trying to sneak through an area when, yep, my companion will move in front of me and blow my cover. Thanks, guys! Dogmeat also had a habit of setting off traps and mines.

I'm excited about this. I normally like to go for melee in almost all games I play.
