The Ultimate Movie Thread of Ultimate Destiny

Lol no. That's like saying the original trilogy is George's trilogy. Those movies were good despite him not because of him. The fact that the first one is any kind of decent can be largely credited to Marcia Lucas.

This is revisionist history created by people who refuse to acknowledge that Star Wars is great because of Lucas and his vision. Marcia Lucas wasn't the only one in the Editing room. George was there too. His focus at USC Film School was editing and camerawork. That's what he likes to do the most. Marcia did most of the editing though because George was suffering from exhaustion during the editing process which was misdiagnosed as a heart attack. There was also another director who did the first cut of the film, but it was so bad Lucas fired him and hired his wife instead. And, again, he worked closely with her to make sure it was to his liking.

He also essentially co-directed ROTJ with Richard Marquand since he was on set during the U.S. filming to make sure a master shot was always filmed. That was something Lucas required as he always thought a film is finished in the editing room and a master shot was necessary for that to happen. Irvin Kershner didn't do that on Empire and that frustrated Lucas a lot.

Bottom line is Star Wars wouldn't exist without Lucas. Lucas is the visionary behind the world, the characters, the everything.

Side note, watch this cool behind-the-scenes video from 1979:

>behind everything
>First cut of star wars felt like the prequels
>Didn't even direct the majority of the trilogy
Ok bud

Too bad the only movies he had comoplete control over are some of the worst films of our time or your theory might hold water
And when he later had complete control over the original movie his love for editing made those shit too.

no

Also, Is Star Wars dead yet?
Maybe in some older, die hard fans hearts but for the most part, no. They're making too much money off of it even it lowers the critical reception bar lower and lower. It's going to be a world of cinematic universes. It has the trilogy trilogy now, movies that take place in between those movies (Solo and Rogue One), TV shows coming up on Disney+. Expect more and more on-screen universe expansion.

I've only ever watched the core movies so far but I've always heard the best pieces done about Star Wars were the Clone Wars and KOTOR. I also thought it was funny how many people love Clone Wars and how dumb Attack of the Clones was because that's essentially the starting point of that. Clone Wars alone already sounds more interesting than the movies that aren't Episode IV and V though. I'll have to watch it one day.

But I'm just wishing the impossible, so why bother?
Yeah, pretty much. Maybe in a few lifetimes?

Everything after Disney took over in Star wars and killed the extended universe is a giant lie. I want a real Grand Admiral Thrawn, I want Mara Jade Skywalker, I want a united New republic. I don't want crazy space social justice warriors (that's right fuck you Ryan Johnston). And while George made the prequels not the greatest, they are still better that crazy old man Luke drinking weird animal titty milk and freeing animals over child slaves. Fuck Disney and everything that has happened to Star Wars since they took over. Although I will admit they at least have taken some elements from the EU, the EU still had way better stories that actually fit in universe.

Yeah the new Star Wars movie was so shit it made the Sequels decent ... because at the very least they are Star Wars and original.

But you know some people the next movie will retcon everything trough some shit like time travel or something. But honestly I don't give a fuck about the rape of Star Wars by corporate money. I've seen so many franchises I really loved getting buttfucked I decided not to become attached to them anymore. Do they release something good? Awesome! If not? Who cares. After the alien and fallout franchise got both fucked beyond recognition I simply gave up. The best you can do.

Don't let the hate flow trough you.

I love the OT and the Prequels and hate the Sequels. But I love Rogue One so that's one point for the mouse I guess. Though I still content it's not canon because it doesn't quite fit with the beginnning of ANH. Vader says they intercepted transmissions sent to the Tantive IV, but they handed a thumbdrive with the plans down a corridor of death. There were no transmission to that ship. :P

Solo wasn't terrible but wasn't great either. It just sort of is. *shrug*

I'm seriously more excited for Clone Wars Season 7 than anything else Star Wars or otherwise at this point. And maybe the Obi-Wan TV show if it has good writers. It depends on a great many things. :P

They should have just taken the Thrawn Trilogy and turned those into movies.
Not even make a prequel trilogy. Just the Thrawn movies a few years after RotJ.

The only reason I wouldn't want the Thrawn trilogy as movies is because Ysalamiri are dumb and break the whole point of The Force. Other than that, I would be fine with it.

The Yuuzhan Vong suck for the same reason.

After Episode 9, I think I'm done with Star Wars.
Even then, my opinion of episode 7 and 8 will rely heavily on how I feel about 9. If 9 is awful, then this trilogy would have been a waste and I can just cut it out of my headcanon and put KOTOR and some of the other games back.
If it's good, then it would rank with 4-6 as a pretty good series of 6 films.
I hate the prequels and Solo was a complete waste of time.
Never saw Rogue One as I don't see the point.

I did enjoy episode 8, mostly because I liked the Luke/Rey stuff.
But... eh...
Can I rant about Disney for a second?

Like fuck Disney for being just the worst film Company.
Fuck what they did with Fox Archival films stating that no Cinema is allowed to screen them (this includes films like Die Hard etc).
Fuck all these Marvel films being released a year. Great job of just pumping out the same shit year after year.
Fuck all these remakes, create something new.
Fuck their rewriting of problematic media. The worst thing you can do is pretend history didn't happen. Art is meant to be a reflective of the times, and if your reflection is that you once put out offensive material, you have to own up to it. Redoing it because it doesn't fit you clean family image is basically a mockery of history and culture as a whole. Show us you've changed not by rewriting art, but by challenging art.
Just fuck Disney in general.

Rant over.

Meh, they are used well in it. Also, the series made the Clone Wars sound much cooler than they turned out to be.

What's worse is that we'll never get a Star Wars game where we get to play as a bounty hunter. (1313)
Thanks George Lucas for being shit at the end, Thanks Disney for Ruining Star Wars by retconning most of the stories, Thank you all and Fuck you both!
At least give me something that isn't quirky and full of nostalgia.
Give me something that is Dark and Gritty, yet beautiful and deep.
Give us some visual storytelling that doesn't shy away from the truth.
Either give it Justice or grant it Death!
We'll not rest, nor we'll stop until they actually start to give a shit about what we want! Am I right, or am I wrong?!
YOU DECIDE!!!
(seriously though, enough with the nostalgia bullshit, okay? It's just not working anymore.)

Lol fucking what? There is literally a game titled star wars: bounty hunter

You know STAR WARS 1313? Where you play as Boba Fett.
Disney cancelled the shit out of that and it pissed me off!
How you may ask? WHEN THEY BOUGHT THE RIGHTS OF STAR WARS BACK IN 2012!!!
1313 was supposed to be a gritty game, but Disney doesn't want that so they cancelled it. Fucking idiots.

>still caring about star wars after it's been ruined 4 times over

I'm not caring, I'm just disappointed at what the franchise has become.
By the way R.Graves, have you seen Ready or Not? It's a Dark-Comedy Horror film about a newlywed joining some rich family, only to be hunted by them in a game of Hide & Seek. It's intense, yet hilarious at the same time!
