The Ultimate Movie Thread of Ultimate Destiny

Yes, Bruce Wayne has problems. Your point?

Furthermore, that's one highly biased interpretation of the character. The batsuit isn't a gimp suit, nor is it meant to be one. Neither is Batman cosplaying a bat or has a sexual fetish about them (that we know of).

I don't like the Nolan Swatman movies in the least, and now it is using the two villians I like the least.... so yeah not even thinking about looking forward to the new one....

Saw Rango last night. Hands down the most incredible animation I've ever seen. The movie itself is very uneven though. I don't think they decided on their target audience before making it. There is as much juvenile humor as there are adult references. There were some hilarious moments though, Spoons being responsible for most of them.

Rango, the first time I saw I went to see it with my nephew, I hadn't heard anythign about Rango beforehand and I just didn't want to see the other "Family" movies in the theater but my nephew wanted to see a movie, and there was this poster with a funny Chameleon holding a fish so I tought "eh, it looks like a cute movie a guess" then the movie unfolded in fornt of me and I was pretty surprised, having low expectations makes surprises like Rango feel better.

I saw Hugo last night. If you ever wondered what a heartwarming family movie directed by Martin Scorsese would look like, this is it. Pretty good, but it didn't blow me away. Ben Kingsley was exceptionally good.

I really loved the first half of A.I. (or should I attribute the credit to Kubrik for this?), real classic sci-fi fare. But the second half descended into that kind of wide-eyed kiddy schmaltz that I don't like from him.
I liked A.I. Thought the whole thing was Spielberg's lovable kiddie M.O. viewed through a prism of Kubrick creepiness. Even the ending...

[spoiler:584be6d552]...in which the kid-bot decides to exterminate his "mother" forever to fulfill his twisted "love" programming.[/spoiler:584be6d552]

Favorite film?

I haven't seen all his films, but I'm pretty sure my favorite is Letters from Iwo Jima.

Though I should probably watch some of his films again. I have forgotten quite a bit of them, to be honest.

I just bought Letters from Iwo Jima, but haven't watched it yet.

He has been quite the prolific director/actor and in my opinion he is just getting better as he gets older. Not that his early work isn't great! The range of work he's done is also worthy of note.

Not too many directors have worked in so many different kinds of movies about so many different topics.

2011 J. Edgar

2010 Hereafter

2009 Invictus

2008 Gran Torino

2008 Changeling

2006 Letters from Iwo Jima

2006 Flags of Our Fathers

2004 Million Dollar Baby

2003 Mystic River

2002 Blood Work

2000 Space Cowboys

1999 True Crime

1997 Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

1997 Absolute Power

1995 The Bridges of Madison County

1993 A Perfect World

1992 Unforgiven

1990 The Rookie

1990 White Hunter Black Heart

1988 Bird

1986 Heartbreak Ridge

1985 Pale Rider

1983 Sudden Impact

1982 Honkytonk Man

1982 Firefox

1980 Bronco Billy

1977 The Gauntlet

1976 The Outlaw Josey Wales

1975 The Eiger Sanction

1973 Breezy

1973 High Plains Drifter

1971 Play Misty for Me

----

Is the one bad movie in there? An amazing filmography....

Be sure to watch it.
Flags of our Fathers isn't bad, but it's nowhere near Iwo Jima. It is a simply amazing work of art.
You should probably watch both of them, if only to compare the two films.

Couldn't have said it better.
Clint is an amazing man, one of the greatest men in the film industry, and perhaps one of the best drama-directors ever.

Yeah, that one. Some of those other early ones are pretty blah too.

Love Clint, but he had a real annoying habit early on of casting his kids and whoever was his wife at the time in major roles.

Even though his acting style is pretty monotone, he's done well in some pretty diverse roles over the years.. Some real memorable stuff from the Leone flicks, Dirty Harry, Where Eagles Dare, Any Which Way..., Heartbreak Ridge etc.
He's had his share of stinkers too, but they can't all be home runs.

I'll agree about 'Play Misty for me' being his worst film, but it wasn't bad for the time frame in which it was made.

Monotone acting style? Nonsense. Still waters run deep, sugar britches...

Yeah great range. Remember when he played that tough guy anti-hero with the monotone voice, the squinty face and the one-liners? And then he did again in 30 other movies?
I never said it was a bad tone, who doesn't love this:

Clint Eastwood is the man. Anyone who says otherwise should be castrated.

I would like to say that I love the Toy Story movies. I also like the Black Cauldron, Sword in the Stone, and the old Hobbit cartoon movie. The best old Disney cartoon to watch stoned is definitely Alice in Wonderland though.

Has anyone ever played the Pink Floyd album with Wizard of Oz? Worth mentioning I guess.

So I went to see TinTin, and it was well done, but I just can't stand the mocap bastardization (or mocap in the first place, except in games) of Herge's style, I actually found the introductory sequence a lot more interesting than the rest of the movie visually, it still felt like it should so I can't say it was bad.

Space Cowboys was pretty bad IMO.

Mostly pretty good with more than a few gems though.

I agree. That and Bridges of Madison County.

Nonsense.

Bridges of Madison County - a photographer who humps an old broad, no anti-hero, no tough guy

The Beguiled - a scheming coward and an opportunist, certainly not tough, not an anti-hero, 30% less squinty

Paint your Wagon, a singing gold miner tenderfoot, no tough guy, no anti-hero, plays the straight man in a comedy musical, 40% less squinty

Honkeytonk Man, a drunk country western singer with tuberculosis.

Please research before you post. Thank you.

That's what I'm talking about. Eastwood is the man. Sure he played similar roles in a few flicks, but Unforgiven, Dirty Harry, and Gran Torino are fucking classics among countless others. Clint Eastwood is a great actor, director, and an all around great guy.

I was always pretty fond of the first Dirty Harry movie...
