Well, I guess you have a point there. Remains to be seen, however.
Still, I wouldn't compare Benz to Russian cars

The issue is more like the way how the Star Wars episodes 1-3 have been different to 4-6.SuAside said:I'm guessing a leviathan like the Nostromo was well over a century old.
Look at how the US uses aircraft carriers. They have a service lifespan of way over 50 years. Every few decades they let 'em come in, rip out everything, refurbish it & let it go out again (this frequently takes 2-3 years).

That's pretty much the reason why I loved the first one so much. The way that he plays Shelock is so different (and so funny) that I cannot see why anybody would like the older, stuffier movies.
Sub-Human said:What. Sherlock Holmes was a rather simple movie. Nothing really going on in there outside a few explosions and fight scenes. It was rather tasteful at first, but got a bit boring towards the end (although some parts of it were pretty fun). The explosions and fights were satisfying though. But nevertheless, not a lot of in-depth.
As for Big Lebowski, that's a whole lot different topic. It was a bit far too ridiculous at parts, but otherwise a rather convincing movie, a contrast to Sherlock Holmes
I've been turning this over in my mind ever since I saw it. It's hard to answer without giving spoilers that would ruin the experience for you. There are definitely some scenes that are very tough to watch, and I'm not sure every detail needed to be in there...but on the other hand I do think there's some justification for it, ultimately. The brutality is not completely gratuitous the way it is in some movies, and it also doesn't fill the story from one end to the other. I wouldn't say it's just torture porn. My complaint is more about how more and more movies seem to be getting more and more nasty.Sabirah said:Well now I am unsure weather to watch it. Is the brutality used in a way that will further the plot? or is it just torture entertainment?
That's the essence of my general complaint. Not only is it dehumanizing and unpleasant to watch, it's ham-fisted character creation. I think Lisbeth Salander is a pretty good character though.Cimmerian Nights said:Because it's easier. It's easier to elicit a nauseating, shocking emotional response by showing base, gory shit than it is to write something as compelling and act it out. It's that simple.
I went to a GWAR concert in Madison in...1993, I'd say. Best rock concert I've ever seen. That's one band that really understands how to put on a show. I can't even say I like their music, but that hardly matters. I was in stitches the whole time.Cimmerian Nights said:And I'm not squeamish, I've seen GWAR live a couple times.
I was under the impression it was going to be about the dead alien they find in the chair of the crashed ship at the beginning of the original movie, but I admit that's hearsay and I really haven't been paying close attention.Atomkilla said:So if it's set in the Alien universe, I'm having a bit of a hard time placing in it somewhere in the timeline of the established franchise - with the shitty AvP taken into account. Says on Wiki it will be placed in 21st century, which is a bit of inconsistent even with the original Alien
TorontRayne said:Am I the only one that think Spielberg is losing it? Super 8 is just one example. Halfway through the movie it derails into a sappy mess. It seemed decent enough at first, but I had to turn it off once they got to the cave. Ridiculous. Who am I to question Spielberg though? I guess every project he is involved in can't be golden. I guess I expect more from a movie when I see him involved.
I saw the same tour IIRC. Tooks days to wash the fake blood off, and the errr... other fluids. Fun stuff.UniversalWolf said:I went to a GWAR concert in Madison in...1993, I'd say. Duel is such a gem, shows how good story telling can be done well without a big budget or cramming useless CG shit in for it's own sake.pretty much in line with his sappy E.T. stuff. I miss the old 1970s Jaws and Duel Spielberg.
Luckily it was raining the night I saw GWAR, so I happened to be wearing a raincoat. It got hit with a big stream of green "other fluids."Cimmerian Nights said:Tooks days to wash the fake blood off, and the errr... other fluids. Fun stuff.
Have you seen the BBC TV series Sherlock? It's pretty good. It's a modern-day version of Sherlock Holmes. Not stuffy at all.Sabirah said:The way that he plays Shelock is so different (and so funny) that I cannot see why anybody would like the older, stuffier movies.
