The Witcher Thread

As for the combat, it's a simple combo system, just press lmb when the sword icon lights up.

I think even better decision is to play The Witcher on Hard without the icon thingy. I found it to be much more entertaining, and combat get's too easy in the endgame anyway. Last fight is laughably easy even on Hard.

Well, there wasn't much of a last fight, really. It was mostly pretty easy on Normal, aside from a few fights. The icon helps to initially get used to the rhytm, I would not go to Hard straight away. I'm currently doing a (slow, very slow and far in between) Hard playthrough, in a Russian version instead of English. It's a bit more fun.

That said, I played Side Effects on Hard, and some of the fights were totally kicking my butt.

Sorry for the gravedig, but I didn't want to start a new thread about this.

Just got this the other night, and haven't stopped playing it since. I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

Also, they've cancelled the console version of this game (according to the official website) and hopefully this means we'll get a sequel soon!

Also, patch 1.5 is out soon, which is always good.

The Rise of the White Wolf is frozen, as far as I know. So all you console users - there's still a chance for you to play the Witcher on you plaything.

The sequel is scheduled for 2010 if I'm not mistaken. I am damn curious who will be your protagonist - making Geralt the PC would be damn problematic IMO.

Also, are there any pre-release informations on the 1.5 patch? Maybe I'll dig out my copy and play the game again, if it'll be something interesting.

No, The Witcher 2 is being developd ASFAIK. The other projects were cancelled in favor of doing this game.

Back on topic; started this game today, have played a good 5 hours and am liking it so far :)

Will be cool to see what other consequences will come back to bite me in the ass :)

Well, iirc, there is only one major decision that will affect your play through in chapter 2. (it's been 5-6 months)

The bigger decisions that will affect you later on in the end is probably 1 quest in chapter 2 and 2/3 major decision/quests in chapter 3.

I actually wished there was a third option in a major quest in Chapter 3, aka the bank quest. You are given the option to make the third choice, but you are not given the choice to actually carry it out in game. It feels like a dropped branch path that was cut due to time constraints.

^ Well, I don't know about the bank quest since I sided with the non-humans, but I feel like even it was cut, it could still be justified. And if you think about it, what COULD you do as a third choice? Having you stand back and watch is dull in gaming terms, and logically, if you don't help one side, you more or less side with the other. Remember "Price of Neutrality" module? Can't always be completely "neutral".

The bank quest is a major quest and can't be avoided. You must choose one or the other, and there is no third choice.

But you are given the option to do so (in a sense), iirc if you can break into the building from a side building and supposedly if you had helped the nonhumans before in another quest, you would be known to the gang and able to talk them down.

Of course, a third option can be quite easy to think of instead of doing nothing. One could've talked to non humans into running away and leave some unidentified bodies to "killed" by you to present to the authorities or even a fake prisoner that you can help to escape later.

Well, don't remember the details, it's been a while. But technically, what you're asking for is not a "neutral" option, but a different way to help the non-humans. Also, isn't helping the Scoatel escape exactly what happens in the quest?
