There's a lot to be excited about right now.

That's the impression I got from this. Did they turn Auto-Run on for this game, or did they take too much from Quake III? (Probably a rhetorical question since there's Haste and Quad Damage pickups.)
It's what happens when you demo a game with mouse and keyboard and without the fucking "glory kills" all the time, i.e. demo it for the people who actually liked Doom.
Makes all the difference, really.
I guess they heard all the complaints that it's another rather slow console shooter with weapon wheel, so they wanted to show that the game can actually be different. I like it.
And weren't the suits upgradable? Maybe that's why the guy has so much air control and speed.
Personally I like this much more now. It's somewhat quick, it has three dimensional movement without context-sensitive bullshit and the weapon wheel is optional.
Looks much more like a classic shooter, and I sure as hell won't complain about taking hints from Quake III or Painkiller.

I'll have to then; my roommate was playing the game for an hour earlier tonight and everything I saw got me angry, as well as confirmed my suspicions that ID mimeographed most of Brutal DOOM and Project Brutality, probably with the mindset that even if someone noticed, not enough would think to say/suggest it.

The horror/conservation/caution aspects are gone in favor of arena shooting that feels ripped from Quake III, plus that AI who watches you takes away the feel of you being alone like in the games before. There's no sense of being strapped for ammo, health or armor, the monsters look like lower gamma rendered designs from Sunset Overdrive's playbook, and the aesthetics of the demonic stuff is a mess. Not once did I feel disturbed/scared by what I was seeing, whereas that happens all the time in the original games.

How do people get disturbed or scared in the original games? You play a goddamn marine who sits in a rocket-powered wheelchair and zooms around at ~50km/h shooting billions of monsters. It was the original fast arena shooter to some degree. More labyrinthian than arena, I guess. Doom 3 tried to be a horror game to some degree, and there's basic disturbing imagery, but seriously, when was Doom ever really a horror game? Yeah, there's a bit too much ammo and armour around in the footage they showed, and the marine feels way too powerful, but it also looks like they used ammo cheats in the demo footages because nobody wants to see the demoplayer die over and over.

This is my main gripe also, the game might as well be about alien invasion, or whatever you might want to imagine. It does not have a distinct look, with the generic looking monsters, pastel colour scheming, wide ass corridors and spaces etc. I just can't imagine what they were aiming for with these decisions.

They didn't use cheats. It's just that simplified, and in turn, boring. (DOOM 3 I liked. It freaks my balls off.)

DOOM has always had a horror element to it. Try playing the original games in the dark, at Ultra Violence. The noises, the unrelenting sprites, being ambushed, and the sounds you make when hurt... That's scary.

This new game? It's not, at all. In fact, some of the plot elements are straight out of DOOM 3, just with cults instead of science and research.

Mass market appeal. Remember how Thief IV was composed of parts from games the originals inspired? DOOM IV is exactly the same, and it cuts just as deep.

I admit it looks much better than that console gameplay but it looks like it was made for gamers of this gen's shooters like when they killed that monster which filled up the players health from low instantly if I remember correctly. I think the fast paced gameplay would look better in a much bigger area like an arena but since they're so fast and in such a tight are you see them running in circles a lot with not much to go. Well we'll see what happens.

it indeed in limited cheat mode, if you look closely enough the gauss rfle have "infinite" ammo. the health also doesnt seem to reduce below 50 point

however, if this were disabled, then surely the guy is just screwed. cause one hit is like 75-60 and that is from imp alone

This is totalbiscuit opinion of NuDoom

Maybe I'm out of touch with the lingo here but what the fuck are they actually saying?
The singleplayer is a ___ 9 so far easy? So it's an easy game? Or is he saying that it is a good game?
Old BF?
What's a true classic?
Who pulled a "shadow of mordor" and is that a good thing or a bad thing?
And who got stupid paranoia and about what?

This thing isn't making any sense to me.

The part of Mordor, is the way how a great game suffered from stupid marketing decisions, because of fear, it might backlash. But none of that happend, and apparantly the game was decent enough. So there was no reason to get in full controll mode before the game release, where they tried to controll reviews and all that shenaninganz. If I remember correctly.

However. I have no clue how bad or good Doom 4 is.

Half of those games are mediocre.
Since when have you become like me?

i'm gonna make this short

he loves the singleplayer, period. even if he's the avid critic of multiplayer itself.
so 9/10 score is easily given.
shadow of mordor is regarded by some people as "sleeper" hit in 2014.

It's "easily a 9 so far".
Dunno what "old bf" means, might be unrelated.
"True classic" might also be unrelated (it's from a chat during a live stream, I think), but it might also mean that it's truely a classic FPS.
They pulled a "Shadow of Mordor" in the sense that the game is really good despite nobody thinking that it would be. I think they didn't really show much of Shadow of Mordor before release, so everybody thought it will be shite, but it turned out the be good. The publisher being paranoid about press release copies, apparently.

I guess what's really sad, is that Doom 4 will kill the modding community that has somewhat formed around the old games. How big is the chance that you would see anything even remotely as interesting like Brutal Doom or the many other user created madness out there, with Doom 4? It seems that big publishers really have less and less interest in the modding community. For obvious reasons. They would rather see content getting sold for money by themself, rather than enthusiasts making stuff for free.

I'd really like to know if id will continue to release their id Tech engine source codes now.

Oh, i had no idea that Carmack released the source code of all his major game engines, what a cool guy (not so cool when it comes to linux gaming though  )...

Just to make TB's stance on Doom 4 SP clear:

so we got;

13 hours SP with 2 mean-to-be-played difficulty choice

Snap map, which cross platform Mod tool

and not so good multiplayer

for 60 bucks.

i might wait for half year before purchase. To the Black Cove then! :D

Terraria is a RNG rouge-like with structure.
Starbound is a RNG rogue-like with infinite content yo woah!
What is a rouge-like, what is a rogue-like? I'm getting confused.

You guys are just boat-loads of fun, aren't you?
Is there any good reason to be excited? Being excited is only good if you are a masochist who like to be disappointed, and make bad decision by throwing away your rationality.
