Total Recall, remake, coming soon...(2010)

In 1990, Paul Verhoeven released his work, Total Recall, which is based on the short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" by Philip K. Dick and starring Terminator eh I mean Arnold Schwarzenegger. The movie itself became a cult classic with many memorable scene and contains many really really bloody scene (a trademark of Paul Verhoeven in his films such as Robocop and StarShip Trooper. Don't know about Basic Instinct though, didn't watch that one).

And now announcement of a remake has been made. The new script is being written by Kurt Wimmer, who's only movies his directed worth watching is Equilibrium, starring current hollywood hot cake 'action' star Christian Bale .

Has hollywood really running out of creativity lately? Or is the 'remake of the 80's' become the current trend of movie industry? :o

I agree. What is up what all that "remakes". Seriously I think there are no doubts that the classics are awesome movies but is there really a need to always reboil that stuff?

They should really concentrate on new stories, new settings and push things in different directions. I dont see any issue if one gets some inspiration of "old" movies (thats what artists do anyway all the time), but a simple "copy" paste?

it's a solid story. PKD's writing was pretty good. i don't mind remakes, as long as they're better than the originals, really.

that said, Total Recall was fun enough to watch, no? kinda lacked substance, but still fun enough.

I wonder if it will star Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, and if at the end of the movie they all live in the playboy mansion in Mars. It'll probably have a cameo with Rob Schnider in it too.

Nowadays, everyone gets Christian Bale, who can afford him. He is one of my favorite actors but he should get more picky about his roles.

HEY BENNY! SCREWWWWW YOU!!!!!

I probably won't see the new one simply out of spite. Remake Total Recall? That makes me sick. I'll bet there won't even be any three breasted whores or midget whores with uzis. For shame.

Hollywood's lack of creativity has ceased to be funny anymore... that said, let's see what this remake (or for unjustified optimism's sake "new take on PKD's story") brings... Total Recall is indeed a cult classic with some really cool mega-violence that i don't think the remake will repeat at all, but perhaps that can be a good thing, as this remake could then play a little more with the story and such...

This just sucks, christians bale's a boring actor and everyone seems to be putting him in everything, aside from that why remake a good movie and shit all over it?

People need to seriously quit fucking with good movies, I watched The Lost Boys remake a lil while ago and I honestly believe whoever remade it needs to be dragged into the street and be flogged until he becomes an unrecognizable gelatinous mass.

A remake of Total Recall?

Really?

Nope. Can't say I want to see it happen. Paul Verhoeven did it right the first time in my opinion.

I hate remakes.

Ugh.

This makes me hate Hollywood more and more, there is no reason whatsoever to go back and remake Total Recall. It's simply cash grabbing for the current generation of high schoolers who think the 80's/90's are "totally retro and cool."

Please Hollywood, get a new idea, screw your "don't want to take a risk" attitude.

If they end up doing this, and the mutated 3 tittied prostitute is totally cgi, I'm slitting my wrists.

Oh great.

We'll either gonna like it or extremely loathe it.

What next? The remake of "Big Trouble in Little China"?? *face palm*

Let's see...they're remaking Footloose, the A-Team, Robocop, Total Recall and are pondering a Top Gun remake as well as Ferris Bueller.

Then there's the Alien "prequel", Robert Rogriguez's "reboot" of Predator and the new "V" miniseries. But hey, at least Ghostbusters is getting a sequel and not a remake/reboot. For the 90s crowd, there's a Buffy remake in the works.

(If someone should be remaking a Schwarzenegger film, it should be Running Man.)

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but this is bad enough as it is.

I just watched Total recall for the first time recently, and I can't see what they could make better...
I particulary enjoyed the fights, which don't look like the same Kungfu gymnastic we have to put up with since Matrix...

What, seriously?
Actually, I might enjoy a new "V" series... I liked the theme of this show very much...
But Buffy? Come on...

Haha yeah well the charme of the "old" arny movies !

If you love such stuff in some way I recomend Phantom Commando, its the absolute super-macho-one-man-killing-whole-army movie but really fun. Of course next to that great are as well True Lies and Erraser!

In today's PG-13 world, we won't see any violence like in the original movie we saw.

I thought they make remakes when the first take on the material didn't work well...

A remake of the A-Team series? Or are they going to make it into a motion picture? 'Cause I've always kinda liked the idea of an A-Team flick. George Clooney could be Hannibal, Brad Pitt could be Face, Jim Carey could be Murdoch and BA should be played by Wesley Snipes. That would rock.

Remakes of flicks from the nineties, however, is just fucking stupid. There's nothing wrong with Total Recall. It aged pretty damn well compared to other action flicks from that time.

Making remakes is also a neat way to erase the past somewhat, isn't it? Let's remake "Casablanca" and cut out all the smoking, for instance.

*paranoid*

Only thing I want to see remade are them cheesy ninja flicks from the eighties which are now really hard to find over here. I loved those movies when I was a kid.

The issue is really not so much the violance in my eyes. Quite many of the old action movies had not even thaaat much violance compared to what is shown somtimes today (if I only compare Alien 4 with Alien for example). The violance was definetly present, but it was rather more a part of the movie and situation then alway the subject of the movie (remember I mean action movies not horror-flicks). I would say the quality of the violance shown today is a different quality. Not inherently a better one though.

I really hope this age of countless "sequels" and "remakes" will stop one time. Seriously. I dont see any issues in movies that have been designed as a series or anything. But how comes that you see so many sequels to movies that never have been meant to be some. The only thing we really miss now is Clock Work Orange 2 now or somethnig like that (you know what I mean ...). I mean was there really a need for new Star Trek movies for example? And all this many remakes that are in planing?
