Fallout 2 mod Unofficial Fo2 patch thread - problems, reports, suggestions

every time i try your latest patch it works but i get this black bar on my right side of the screen? is that a bug or did i do the installer wrong?

I've found two bugs so far, one which makes the game unplayable for me.
This was during my first playthrough of the game so I don't know all the names of the characters, bear with me (sorry for the pun).

The first is with the daughter to the woman in the first own. When I asked her about news in town I only got the text "Error" as a response in the dialogue box with two "Error" as possible responses.
Selecting the top one gave me the same result, although with the second Error-response being replaced by "Ok, I'll try asking your mother about that."

This didn't bother me much, however, the second bug did... whenever I try entering Trapper Town the game crashes with the following application error:

"The instruction at 004af46a refrenced memory at 00000028
The memory could not be read from
Click on OK to terminate the application"

I'm running on a vista system with decent specs. I encountered these bugs after installing the game, then your patch (I tried installing the official patch in between but it doesn't execute, even in compatibility mode for Windows 2000).
After reinstalling and playing the game without your patch I could enter Trapper Town without the error (although I did experience the bug where I travel realy fast on the world map). After reinstalling yet again, this time with your patch, the bug is there again.

Please help!

Where did you download the patch?

Did you try redownloading it from my server?

The first issue you mention with the errors in dialogue is known and a result of me including some expansion content by accident. The second is a result of a mapping regression. It should be fixed in the reuploaded files I put on my server back in January.

Heh, yeah. So, killap.net takes you to nothing while killap.net/fallout2 will take you to something. I should probably put a page up but I never got around to it.
 
Thanks for replying so fast!

I'm pretty sure I used the one in our signature, but since I encountered numerous download locations I downloaded the patch again tonight from your server. After reinstalling the game and then your patch, not the official one, the problem still exists.

I really want to play through the game with the best experience, which seems to be with your patch... any more ideas? :(
 
There is another way.

Go to your Fallout2\data\maps directory and remove a file called "KLAMALL.map" In addition, look for another file called "DEPOLVA.MAP" remove it as well.

Issues like this will be sorted out in the upcoming patch.
 
An odd glitch I found: If you go into the Emperor's room, then back to the main part of the Shi temple, it's possible to scroll the screen one column farther to the left than normal. This reveals an area that wasn't fully mapped, having only a few floor tiles and no walls.
 
Found a bug in broken hills. Talking to the woman near Bill in Broken Hills nets a conversation that says nothing but errors, including all of your responses. Furthermore you cannot inquire to Chad about his skimming. he just says 'More questions? I'll see what I can do for answers.'

Are you using my patch or the expansion?

If you are using the patch, then there shouldn't be any expansion content, so if you see some, disregard it.

I did accidentally included some of the content by mistake. This will be fixed in the upcoming patch.
 
Another dialogue error: talking to Sulik in Klamath, after "what are you doing here?", one of the options is "Error". Choosing it drops out of dialogue.
 
I found an error talking to maida in klamoth, "tell me about whats going on in klamoth", she will say "error" and the two other choices for answering also appear error" but this was working in the restoration patch.....

Ya, something that was in the expansion but accidentally included in the patch. I shall have things like this corrected soon.
 
Not sure if i understand your answer but what i meant was that in the restoration, the dialog was correct and in the unofficial it gave-me those dialog errors....

What I meant was that what you saw in the patch (the errors) is what is in the expansion but is not displaying correctly since it isn't supposed to be in the patch. I accidentally included some expansion content in the patch by mistake.

My sig says patch as opposed to expansion. They are two different things. Only the patch is displayed in my signature. This will change soon.
 
That would explain why non of the expansion stuff seemed to be happening.... I went and downloaded the expansion instead ... and let me tell you ... well done, mate. Cheers to you. I love it so far. It's given me a whole new outlook on Fallout 2 again. Thanks for your hard work and to all those other designers who's products you also used in that expansion pak.
