Having also played DOOM and DOOM II several times I think it's got about as much atmosphere as looking at the cover of a heavy metal album. Neat but not really something that immerses you or sticks with you at all. It's the video game equivalent of a good popcorn flick. Game itself is good but atmosphere or storytelling are hardly what people play it for.

You're in a thread specifically designated for unpopular opinions chief.

Additionally, opinions on subjective matters are ineherently not facts. You shouldn't have to preface it with "In my opinion".Technically, Bethesda's Fallout games being garbage is just an opinion and not a fact. Yet, I'm sure you and most other people here have said as much as a statement. Because it's assumedely subjective because the subject matter is subjective.

The "you" and "people" here implies other people outside of you don't find Doom atmosphere and that people don't play Doom for atmosphere.

There's a giant difference between saying you don't find something in a specific piece of media and saying NO ONE ELSE finds that same thing in that same piece of media. Given the fact that some people here find Doom atmospheric, that means you're wrong.

I'm not here to argue, but i don't know why you're being thick.

Correct. Which is why I didn't sy nobody finds it atmospheric. What I did say was that I didn't find it atmospheric myself, and that broadly atmosphere and storytelling aren't the main pull for DOOM. That last comment which I did to apply to people beyond myself doesn't say that people can't find it atmospheric or enjoy the story of DOOM, but I will hold to the idea that they aren't the selling points of that series.

Only played the first marathon but I find the level design rather boring and the player character too floaty. It's why I would rather have doom.

The "muh subjectivity" argument its literally exact same energy as being a snobby elitist but in the other direction.

Care to disprove it? I don't abide by it entirely but 99% of the time when people get upset about this sort of shit it's just because it's about something they disagree with or like, and often times don't prefix every fucking statement they make with "IN MY OPINION" themselves because it's a given

I shouldn't have to disprove it. It's a simple concept. With anything theres a way to do it well and a way to do it poorly.

The room is an awful movie regardless of whether or not you or anyone else enjoyed it.

Its objectivily bad and no amount of subjective opinions are going to magically turn it into a well made or well written piece of art.

At a certain point a person needs to change their stance from "no its actually good" to "I really liked it"

So saying "subjective" in response to being told you're wrong in some cases is just outright dumb and a little obnoxious.

You saved my pun from the Europeans that will scratch their head in contextual bewilderment at 2AM.

Doom II is an overrated slog partly for not having any episode select, and feels like a tacked on expansion instead of a sequel. Also Doom 3 is kino and just needed some minor tweaks to be recognized as something more than a tech demo.
Also SIGIL is cool. nu-DOOM's reliance on area level design and limiting enemy numbers is not cool.

Uhhh... have you not played eternal? They literally built an entirely new engine so they could spawn as many enemies as they wanted.
Uhhh... I don't believe I can run a train on a whole map when I get some arena bullshit that blocks my progression every five seconds and the limit was in regards to (2016). Also no nu-doom co-op campaigns is dumb. I want tag-team finishers.

Having went through the original Deus Ex again recently, I don't really understand what was special about JC Denton. He served his purpose in that game, but his role in Invisible War was far more interesting to me.

Easy, the memes made him special.
