We didn't have a thread this huge for the UK general elections last year...

It's always seemed strange to me how fascinated the entire world is with American politics. I suppose it's for two reasons, the first is because America is probably the most powerful and influential country on Earth, and the second is that their/our (Dual citizen, baby) elections last about a year and a half and are the most dramaticized circus show of politics in history.

Anyway, #IStandWithRand

It is a circus, and yet, we ultimately don't need to get that worked up about it. Obama was a radically different president that Bush and how much difference did he make in terms of policy?

Nothing really gets done in Washington anyway, just posturing and grandstanding, it reminds me a lot of pro-wrestling.

The exciting things happening from a legislative perspective all happen at the local, municipal and state level. Whether it's socially progressive stuff likes legalizing weed or gay marriage or pro-business stuff like fracking. What localities want, they get done.

Anyway, #IStandWithRand
Yeah, I was hoping for more from him, he's a necessary voice in the senate, but his campaign never really got any traction. He was one of the more substantive, and definitely unique candidates.

The point isn't to blame everything on "The West" or "Whitey" as you say.
No, I don't say. I'm not even engaging that, or the fascinating discussion about the the finer points of Mein Kampf. I'm just tired of the same handful of jagoffs derailing seemingly every thread into their pet causes. It's really tiresome. There can be other threads where you guys disertate on Adolph Hitler, by all means, have at it.

AlphaPromethean,

seems that Bernie is going strong, New York will be the big test in the primaries. I hope he does well, although I'm not an American and don't get to vote on it.

In UK with the scandal around David Cameron and his off shore scammings, Labour and Corbyn seem to be capitalising on it. Hope they gain power over there.

No, I won't talk about it in detail.
The reason why I bring this is up is because I assume that many who see Islam as the absolute evil here actually never had any contacts with Muslims in the first place, anda chance to engage in deep discussions with them, getting to really know the people behind the religion, and probably don't know what it is like when you're part of a minority. How people react, despite the fact that you know the language fluently and the culture and that you have been born in the same nation. Suddenly all of that is forgotten and you see how they start to judge you, when they hear your name, which obviously isn't something they heard before, even though they only thing they know comes from the media. You don't know how sick and tired you can be from the same questions by the same dumb people. All. The. Fucking. Time.
Oh? Where is your name from, it sound so fancy? Ah, your parents are from Serbia? I see. All those wars and crimes, so horrorible though, those poor Albanians! Why are the Serbians so evil? No clue, you tell me, German, why have there been so many Nazis in WW2? All those concentration camps and killing. Why was the German people so evil? Every German was a Nazi? Right? Do you feel sorry for your grandfather? And that's the point where some get angry.
But! Not every German was a Nazi! You can't compare it like that, it was such a loooong time ago! What has this to do with me!
Well screw you then. Why do I have to feel guility or know every answer, why some crazy idiots that I don't know kill others? Why make ME, who has grown up in Germany, going trough the German school, who was even born here, feel like I had to appologize OR get in a political discussion at every corner, just because the mongrel infront of me saw BBC last night where they have shown for the thousand and one time how a Serbian militia shoots someone.

Some of you guys think that you're well informed I suppose, that you know everything about Islam and Muslims and how dangerous they are. Well.
Next to a lot of Germans, some Muslims have been my best friends in my youth, people from Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia and I worked with countless of other people from central Africa, Afghanistan, Albania, Iran and Iraq. Some fleed wars, some wanted to improve their life, some have been students, and some immigrants. Some took their religioun serious, others didn't care. I have meet Germans with Russian herritage and lots of east Europeans, of which most have been from Poland, and my current work mates are a German who was born in South Africa and a female co-worker from the Czech Republic. With some people, I engaged in philosphical, political and religous debates, or sometimes we celebrated and drunk together, or we just joked and had fun. And everyone has their own ideas and experience.
But you know what I don't do? I never judge people what ever if they eat or don't eat pork. And I learned a long time ago, not to believe every shit people say about a religion or certain group and to get in some kind of unreasonable anxiety.
Because 15 years ago, I was the evil guy for everyone, for the simple reason because Serbia had to be full of war criminals invading the Kosovo. How else could you convince people that bombing the shit out of Serbia, was justified?
Since you were falsely accused, all accusations made against anyone must also be false!

Are you retarded or something? YOU(!)!!!!` are make it sound like Muslims (in general) suck, simply because of their religion, despite the fact that your precious little constitutions (if you're american, which I guess you are) says that ALL religions are equal. And you're talking LITERALY about BILLIONS of people here, as like EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM WANTS THE FUCKING SHARIAH AND IS OUT THERE TO KILL YOU. Jesus ... you're slowly geting on my nerves. And I bet you don't even know any Muslim.
My fucking point is that trough your bullshit racist rhetoric, people like ME(!) got hurt. It doesn't matter if we talk about Serbians, Muslims or African people. It's always the same shitty arguments.
This isn't about accusations anymore. This is about people like you, who have a certain image in their mind, how a certain group or in this case religion simply has to be, but life isn't that easy. It never is. You would actually realize that, if you ever had to deal just once with the ugly side of racism, and where this bullshit rhetoric is coming from. It's all nice and dandy, up to the point where it happens to you, you know.

I bloody don't. Not that I'm a fan of the Tories, but Corbyn would be an absolute disaster.

Can I just say I find Trump to be really pathetic sometimes?

He's all gung-ho about how much of a winner he is, but as soon as he loses he starts blaming anything and everything but himself, and accused others of cheating a few times as well. He ceaselessly says that he doesn't start fights, but seem to do his absolute best to turn any debate into a mud-slinging contest. He and his supporters complain people fail to see the ideas behind his campaign, but he's the one who pronounces outrageous (and sometimes plain silly) statements for the sake of publicity. He shouts up and down about how he's so different from all those career politicians, but he deforms truth and backs down on statements he made with the best of them. He says he's not bought and paid for, but does anyone really believe someone as filthy rich as him isn't already good chums with half of America's big business circles?

I mean, it's politics so of course there's always some spectacle associated with it, especially with the overfunded madness that is the US presidential election. But he particularily seems to delight into turning the whole affair into a reality TV show for the sake of grabbing media attention, then complains he's hard to take seriously.

Even if I shared his political views (whatever they are this week, at any rate), I wouldn't vote for him just because of his attitude. I like to think politcians can be people I take seriously, even if no one's perfect. I'm just thankful I'm not American so I don't have to choose between him and Hilary "Wall Street" Clinton.

You still didn't answer a question I'm sure I asked more than once... If all those Muslims are so wonderful, why do their countries suck?
Why does Serbia suck so much? Why does Detroit suck so much? Why has Texas Rednecks? Why are east European nations so shitty for Homosexuals? Why do the French eat frogs and snails?
Maybe because we live in a very complex world and where, no matter how hard you try, it is impossible to find one single answer or reason for the issues.

Why does Serbia suck so much?
Because the people in it suck so much.
Why does Detroit suck so much?
Because the people in it suck so much.
Why has Texas Rednecks?
Because rednecks like Texas.
Why are east European nations so shitty for Homosexuals?
Because eastern Europeans don't like homosexuals.
Why do the French eat frogs and snails?
Because they're delicious.
Maybe because we live in a very complex world and where, no matter how hard you try, it is impossible to find one single answer or reason for the issues.
Who said you must limit yourself to just one?

Well, to be fair, it was not always that bad:

"Within a generation of its founding, Baghdad became a hub of learning and commerce. The House of Wisdom was an establishment dedicated to the translation of Greek, Middle Persian and Syriac works. Scholars headed to Baghdad from all over the Abbasid Caliphate, facilitating the introduction of Persian, Greek and Indian science into the Arabic and Islamic world at that time. Baghdad was likely the largest city in the world from shortly after its foundation until the 930s, when it was tied by Córdoba.[37] Several estimates suggest that the city contained over a million inhabitants at its peak.[38] Many of the One Thousand and One Nights tales are set in Baghdad during this period.

Among the notable features of Baghdad during this period were its exceptional libraries. Many of the Abbasid caliphs were patrons of learning and enjoyed collecting both ancient and contemporary literature. Although some of the princes of the previous Umayyad dynasty had begun to gather and translate Greek scientific literature, the Abbasids were the first to foster Greek learning on a large scale. Many of these libraries were private collections intended only for the use of the owners and their immediate friends, but the libraries of the caliphs and other officials soon took on a public or a semi-public character.[39] Four great libraries were established in Baghdad during this period."

Then Genghis Khans hordes came and anihilated the whole region:

"On 10 February 1258, Baghdad was captured by the Mongols led by Hulegu, a grandson of Chingiz Khan (Genghis Khan), during the siege of Baghdad.[46] Many quarters were ruined by fire, siege, or looting. The Mongols massacred most of the city's inhabitants, including the caliph Al-Musta'sim, and destroyed large sections of the city. The canals and dykes forming the city's irrigation system were also destroyed. During this time, in Baghdad, Christians and Shia were tolerated, while Sunnis were treated as enemies.[47] The sack of Baghdad put an end to the Abbasid Caliphate, a blow from which the Islamic civilization never fully recovered."

It's also blatantly untrue that Muslim countries are universally shitholes. They do tend to have more religious influence within the State that I (and many others, I'd wager) would like, and their records for human rights and the death penalty aren't something to be proud of; I think Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are responsible for something like 90% of all (official) death sentences in the world, which is a bit nuts.

But several Mulsim nations are fairly wealthy and prosperous, and are far from the worst places to live in the world. Iran, Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon in most places, some parts of Pakistan, Tunisia and Morroco, and I probably forget a handful. Syria used to be decent before the war that everyone forgets these days. Fuck, even if Saddam was a total asswipe, Irak wasn't faring so badly if people stayed in his good graces. Then 'Murica came to give them freedom and the country descended into endless civil and religious strife.

I mean, you want a region that has fucked up governments? Look at sub-shararian Africa (Christian-dominated) or hell, the Far East. So many sham democraties and dictatorships, including what is probably the worst regime on the planet. Buddhism is the dominant religion there, yet you never hear anyone lament how all of this is old Buddha's fault or whatever. Probably because the Chinese, North Koreans, Taiwanese, Burmese and others kill and/or ruthlessly exploit their own people instead of going after Westerners, so surely they can't be Bad Guys can they?

I always would classify myself as a Democrat, but in certain scenarios I would vote Republican, like in 1904 with Teddy Roosevelt, or 84 with Reagan. Maybe with Eisenhower too, but those are the only elections I wouldn't vote Democrat
If John Kasich is the republican nominee vs Clinton I would vote for him. He is scandal free and not as much of a Machiavelli.
Even though I dont support him, there is a lot of misinformation about Trump, like him hating mexico Etc
Sadly, even though Bernie is a excellent candidate, Hillary is hogging all the super delegates so it will be very hard for him to be nominee.
I would vote for Bernie over anyone else

If Sanders is leading the superdelegates will switch over to him. I don't think they ever voted against the party base.
