Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines 2

I'm shocked that this blatant nostalgia-grab isn't going to be worth grabbing at launch.

I'm not sure nostalgia is something people have for VtM:Bloodlines. I mean, it's constantly updated with fan patches and people replay it all the time. I don't think there's any nostalgia there.

It also took something like a video game company buying White Wolf to make a new Bloodlines game happen. Activision still has the rights to Bloodlines 1 even. So I dunno. *shrug*

Sure there is. That is what the resurgence of old school RPG's relied on. Problem is it brought back half of the talent.

I don't like it. We're playing a thinblood right? Thinbloods are the weakest of vampires so why can we scale buildings and use disciplines?

First person combat was also really goofy.

I hate the camera dictation. I never like it in games when they go "Oh we're gonna be so immersive and realistic" and then they constantly wrestle control of the camera away from me. Like, when I drop down from on high I don't want to have the camera pan down to the ground. I don't care if it is unrealistic if my line of sight stays still as I land. I find it nauseating when I'm jerked around constantly.

Oh and it was boring. I only made it through half of the video.

It looks pretty but that's about all the positive I have to say about it.

I didn't think the hairstyle fit the outfit of the first woman you talk to and the voice actor for the nosferatu did not fit the character's portral at all.

Other than that. I mean. It's a game. It runs. And uh... Yeah.

In 5th Edition Thinbloods developed a Discipline called Thinblood Alchemy which gives them abilities they wouldn't normally have. That's what your starting Discipline is. Either Chriopteran, Nebulation or Mentalism I believe. Those are unique to Thinblood Alchemy.

Thinbloods though are still monsters that are stronger and faster than humans.

It is what a lot of people have for the first game. It's one of the biggest cult classic in the videogame industry and the fact it's still getting fan patches now, it's proof of that.

I think the game looks very Bloodlinesy. In a good way. I even like the decision to leave guns as disposable secondary tools (though I still think the should be a skill to govern their accuracy).

But I agree with the nitpicks about the NPC’s looking worse and not even close to as lively as they were in the original; and with skillcheck dialogs not having an elaborate font to them.

I mean, this was 2004. The facial animation should look at least this good in the new game. It's been 15 years.

Once, again it's best to wait and see how it turns out. I want it to be good. I also want Outer Worlds to be good. But my desire for it to be good will not will it to be decent enough to pay full price for.

Also, pre-order bonuses? More like, I'll buy the cheaper complete edition later and know my money wasn't wasted.

This is NMA. We are not ... hopeful. We are cynics.

Honestly I've been surprised at all this optimism. The last five years have shown a downward trend or stagnacy at best. TOW and VTMBL being good? The fuck is that coming from? Nostalgia and desperation?

Shit's going to suck, yo.

They've been slowly revealing factions in Bloodlines 2 the last few week. They finally revealed the last one, The Unseen, who are the Nosferatu faction (not all Nosferatu are in the Unseen faction but all the Unseen are Nosferatu, so it's not a Clan). And the Nosferatu they reveal continue to not look like Nosferatu. Nosferatu are my favorite clan in Vampire the Masquerade and my cynicism is starting to kick in because I'm fairly certain the people making this game are just shit at graphics and to hide that fact they're designing the Nossies to look like burn victims instead of Count Orlok types. Really starting to piss me off.

I wonder if they'll actually make it more appealing or not. We're looking at another year now instead of under 6 months? How much can they feasibly do in that time?

I mean, appealing to whom? Pretty sure all the Bloodlines fans are going to at least check it out even if it looks janky and whatnot. The writing and story and C&C implementation should outweigh any concerns for graphics from that section of the gamer community.

Selling other people on it, I don't know how they would do that unless they made it full of lootboxes and microtransactions and multiplayer and all the other garbage AAA games seem to have nowadays.

I'm a fan of Bloodlines 1 and honestly this game is not looking very appealing. Seems to have the same jank of the original, when it should be better because it's a sequel to a game that came out 15 years ago.

Honestly, this thing of having janky combat, mediocre graphics and so on and tolerating that because it has a good story and C&C is starting to get under my nerves. Can we have acceptable combat and decent graphics at the very least? It's the same thing with Outer Worlds where people are being too forgiving of its mediocre graphics and subpar looking combat because it's meant to be New Vegas in space.

I don't think Outer Worlds was meant to be New Vegas in Space. Tim and Leonard keep stressing that the game is not nearly that big.

The size of the game doesn't matter, they are clearly going for New Vegas in space. It's honestly kind of distracting at this point.

Just did some research and Obsidian apparently pitched it as spiritual successor to New Vegas.

My point still stands. It's really disappointing seeing people be so forgiven of stuff that should be much better at this point and yet they at least almost look as bad as the game they are succeeding or are going for.

What? How does that even make sense? This is a manipulation of people once you have them hooked. People have responded very well to some AAA single player games recently so multiplayer isn't the only big appeal. Loot boxes? Just about everyone despises them or feels absolutely neutral towards them. I've never met someone that got excited about a game showcasing lootboxes and I've met people who have paid hundreds into lootboxes. They don't get all giddy about spending that money, they're just hooked on the game and really want certain things unlocked and have less self control than others.

And just like Norzan said, there are fans of the original Bloodlines that may not pick this up. If those initial two weeks of sales really matter so much, then they need to convince as many of us as possible to buy this in that timeframe. If we're all just watching it from the sideline, that'll feel bad for them.

I definitely want the game to be good, and I hope this delay somehow makes it better but yeah the combat looks bad. I'm with Norzan, I don't want spectacular combat in every game but at least something that doesn't feel like shit. If I have to play the combat in real time, then make it feel decent enough and not like a shitty chore.

Or just make it all turn based ya know?

I'm pretty sure everyone would prefer that you can just buy everything directly instead of having to basically gamble with lootboxes. And if there's anyone that actually likes them, it's literally because of the dopamine rush you get from opening them and that's addictive.
