Lol, from a "poor" tech demo (not really, because we now know why it was the way it was) to the total disapointment of Beth making a fallout with spells. We truly are the worst fans :P

Frissy: They obviously haven't used FSAA or any shaders, genius. Not surprisingly, since it's a *pre-alpha* version of the game. In truth, Van Buren would have looked *much* nicer than, for example, Neverwinter Nights. Here's a better glimpse of Van Buren beauty:

that is the only screen that got me remotely interested in fallout 3. i think there was another one showing more wreckage. the rest of it looked way too clean, generic and uninspired for me to give a damn.

Except that it was from Troika's PA-game and not from Van Buren.

 Cmon people. How many times do the bethesda developers have to tell us that fo3 will not be morrowind with gunz??
It's going to be Oblivion with gunz

wha? i thought the only evidence of troikas pa game was that tech demo video. as far as i know that screenshot was the only good fallout 3 screenshot in existance.

i am much more interested and saddened with the demise of the unknown pa game.

D'oh!

I thought it looked too pretty for VB's Tech Demo, and it had the same atmosphere as Troika's pics. Stupid mistake of me.

Damn...look at all those character creation options.

So your character can "look" as you choose as well...that was going to be the fulfillment of one of my hopes...

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

For those that don't think they look too great, please realize this was a tech demo. The art and textures were temporary in most cases. We still had alot of work to do. Our primary focus was getting the combat and scripting system working.

And for you trivial buffs, I did the outdoor map for the demo. There were some seams visible because we had a few art problems and the lighting and textures weren't final at the time. But for what it was I think it turned out pretty well.

When we showed the demo to the company everyone but upper management was quite impressed. At the time we didn't understand why they acted so stone faced. But of course it was because they were going to lay off most everyone and dissolve BIS soon!

Well seriously - when I think of how little Bethesda improved from DaggerFall (which I loved) into Morrowind (which I found dull and boring) - I am not optimistic that they will improve much towards Oblivion and unfortunally - Fallout 3.
The only way Bethesda can "convince" me that they'll make a good Fallout 3 is to actually *make* a good Fallout 3 and not another bland world with bland generic NPCs etc.
I'll see it before I belive it .... and currently - I neither see it nor belive it :D
Call me pessemistic or cynical, I'm just realistic based on my previous experiences with Bethesda.

I'd much rather have an "ugly (graphical)" Fallout game then a pretty and polished graphical game with just a Fallout feel.

How would you like it to go....

1. They make a Fallout 3 (sequel to 1&2, or prequel...)

2. They make their own Fallout (Forget FO1&2)

3. They make Fallout, that has nothing to do with the storyline of the first ones, but has the Fallout items etc.

Sander is quite mistaken. That screenshot is from Van Buren, not Troika's demo.

That screenshot, if I remember correctly, is a pretty old render from the days MCA was still on the team. It got leaked pretty early, together with another one; http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=127

Nope, those two were the Van Buren pics released a few days after the cancellation. I had to wait until 4:30 am on IRC to get them. I`ll try to get a few more with that quality, they were originally .TIF files so they are better.

And the demo seemed to be pretty nice from the tradicional Fallout perspective , the zoomed pics are showing the age now, it was possible to play the techdemo on a GeForceTI400 on an old Duron, so...

I wouldn't give a rats ass about graphics, even if it were made in the Fallout1 engine (but had a great story and other important elements) I'd buy it. We're not talking about UT2k8 or... fucking... Sims3 here, Fallout is supposed to be a great CRPG not a FSAA fest, spiffy eye-candy should be last in the list of priorities.

im only dreaming that fallout 3 by bethesda will look as same as these screens + better graphic, i mean it will have isometric camera...

Graphics truly aren?t everything, but if you ever want to see a fallout 4 or similar it also needs good graphics. It?s not enough that WE buy fallout 3. A hellawa lot of other people have to buy it also, and to be frankly...most of the people don?t buy games unless they look good.

In these times one HAS to expect good graphics and that everything else is ok too. The best game with crappy graphics become a legend, but not best sellers.

Everything needs to click.

Fallout has a great story. Unless the gameplay is changed too much, it?s also a good one. Graphics also need to be good. And now it needs to be on the CURRENT level of quality.

Remember...Beth isn?t making the game for us, they are making it for themselves (they need money, business fact).

i totally disagree... it's still a friggin game! it must have all the elements the first 2 fallouts had, but good graphics should accompany it. i'm not saying FPS, i want an isometric view with rotating and zoomable camera, and i believe you can make breathtaking graphics with it. it's still a game, and the more realistic it feels, the better it will be. in conclusion: a great story and ALL other important elements+great graphics... i'll feel pretty dissapointed if a game will come out in 2006/2007 with a character which walks upwards in zigzags...
