Van Buren tech demo

Damn! I should have bet on the second day!
Final count was 40,578, by the way. We have also doubled the weekly record of 44,485, the current count being 89,653; and the week is obviously not over yet. We are also very close to 50% of the monthy record, despite being only four days into the month.

People, maybe somebody could change VanBuren soundtrack format and repack it for more user friendly downloading? WAV size bites. That would be cool if demo was 190 MB or less.

I fucking loved it. Sure, the less said about the real-time combat the better, but that was Fallout, right there.

*Throws another white lily onto the pile*

I couldn't find anything in the troubleshooting section, so I'll have to ask it here.
The text is unreadable, maybe due to my LCD monitor. I don't know, but parts of characters disappear altogether, and others are too thin to be read. WTF?

I assume you've copied the fonts from the directory "Fonts" to your Windows/Fonts folder?

Are you playing with standard screen resolution? If yes, then you should change it in the F3.ini file. I couldn't read anything too, so I changed it to 1024x768px and now everything is fine.

Btw. I played it 10 times now and I want more. :O

Do you own an old ATI card by any chance?

The text being unreadable can be fixed easily. Go to the .ini file in your My Documents Fallout folder. Change the resolution from 800x600 to 1280x800, save the .ini file, and all text will be readable.

As a long time lurker, I had to come out of hiding to say a *big* thanks to all those involved in getting this demo out. I had always seen VB as a bit of a 'meh' sequel somehow. The visuals didn't seem consistent with the prior games, and I wasn't sure if it would even play like them.

Trying the demo however has quashed many of my doubts, especially those regarding the visual style. Can't say I was convinced by the combat, or having to rotate the camera - but I am sure they are things that would have been better implemented in the development version. Hugely gutted about it all now. The Vault door opening sequence alone sold me on it.

Well, since all critics for Beth's Fallout 3 here are based on nothing, here we have at least something :->

So... Black Isle "Van Buren" looks like Morrowind with guns. It has real time combat (disguisting!!!), non-isometric view that can be rotated (oh, that shitty high tech, unneeded grapchics bells and whistles!) and the same stupid concept criticised in oblivion: an unknown hero is able to fix vault life support, although trained people living in this vault were unable to (see parallels with Oblivion?). It has no humor, that fallout was famous for. Blah, blah, blah, blah... This game sucks... blah, blah, blah. Morrowind with guns. Blah, blah, blah. It's good Interplay went down. Blah, blah, blah...

Oh, wait! No Louis Armstrong in the title theme? Crap! This game is crap!

Oh, wait! I can't see any retro-60s ambience. Crap! Crap! Crap!

ssuukk, you next post will better be more thoughtful, or you will be sent to Camp Horny Deathclaw for a quickened course of telling a tech-demo from a full game, with an additional segment in "Reading the Friggin' Thread You Are Posting In 101", because not doing so in advance invalidates your opinion.

lol, pwnd... I can't believe this thread is going to hit the 40K view mark. I imagine its going to hit 50 before it stops... My guess at least who knows...

Oh, wait. ssuukk went to edit that post as I was replying to it.

First strike for trolling, ssuukk. FYI Fallout 1 didn't have Louis Armstrong either...

I see that it not only escaped you that this was a tech demo as already mentioned, but that the plot was a placeholder too.
Or I suppose you think Black Isle's Fallout 3 was really going to take place during the war while the bombs were dropping. That'd make for a hell of a short game.
As an aside.. trained people in the Vault? Hey, world war III has started. Put on this blue suit and get to a nuclear shelter. There's your training.

Oh, wait! No Louis Armstrong in the title theme? Crap! This game is crap!

Your sarcasm is badly directed. Fallout 1 didn't have Louis Armstrong either.

Retro-50s. And even in this short tech demo, it was there.

I feel the urge to split and vat, but he has made such a fool of himself (no offense to Baka from Scrapheap) that it'll be more entertaining to leave him here.

I see you've missed the point completely. Don't you see, that the same arguments are used for Berh's fallout, based only on NOTHING? Or should I say:

I see that it not only escaped you that there is no content so far from Bethesda Fallout, and it still gets criticised?

I'm well aware of your sarcasm. I'm simply pointing out that it's rubbish sarcasm.
In any case, the criticisms against Bethesda are due to their track record and refusal to communicate with the fans. Even if Fallout 3 turns out to be the best RPG ever, Bethesda will have still deserved all the angst against them because of their attitude.
