Wasteland 2 physically distributed by Deep Silver, screens

Thanks Surf Solar and valcik, thanks all.

I'm too lazy. I thought - no one will see it. You see. "Do not to be lazy" - my motto. Broke it (smile). But never worried about rails. Only your eyes touch this screens. This art style been cancelled. Too quality. That is reason to cancel it. Sometimes i really hate this world. Hate reasons to cancel anything. You remember... m-m-m... canceled games of Troika Games. Look at video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqQhwu1d64A&feature=player_detailpage

Why? Why this guys made it in deeper 2005 and nobody can't help them? Why i see W2 screens and i want to cry? Where style which we can see in damned 2005... almost 8 years ago. Eight! And many people say... wow... nice screens. What? Nice? Where? I beg you ... the bus on the screenshot W2 does not quite live up to the tire lying on the ground in tech-demo of game 2005. What the hell, people have forgotten how to work? Or we gamers have forgotten how to see?

They in the past already doing better than many of developers do now. They in the past already made a visual style is better than Wasteland 2 style now. No-o-w. In 2013.

Hell joke of fate... better people and companies been eaten by fat damned publishers, and now, when industry can born again, rolling time back i look at this screens. World. Strange place where good things die too fast.

God... if you hear me... bring back Troika. Please. I don't need from you anything. I don't ask you before. Just open eyes of people.

BTW, that blurring in the background is not bloom, but Depth of Field. But yes, I agree it's a little over the top.

Maybe.

But blure as part of tool (DOF, bloom, glow) have many "faces" like real evil. Like a devil. Maybe it's a DOF, but bloom cheaper version of DOF and use blur technique too.

And also if mix DOF, bloom, and something like a glow, and maybe HDR we are blinded. And W2, after blinding be looks more better. But in my opinion effects just a part of cook.

I have a crazy idea. Bus. Look at bus. How many time need to make this incredible piece of Wasteland 2 style? On my clock 1:32 (i cannot post my photo with today newspaper, but you can trust me or somebody connect to my skype and i share screen, but without sound... because it's bothering), it's a night time, but... i'm on work, i have force, in me twenty cup of cofee, i think i add another one-two-five and after two or three hours we can make it.

Why i need this? Because i'm strongly sure - developers do not tense when made content. If this bus produced exactly by developers. Because i heard about two things, Crowdfunding and Crowdsourcing. Two in one. Like shampoo. Best way to do nothing. Or... in polite version of this - it's a give opportunity concentrate on game. Bua... mua... yes. Sure. I believe.

Let's see... our night jam we start from song U2-Pride. Pedal to floor.

@Rick Lion: Interesting read. Although I couldn't help but read your post with an hilarious russian accent in my head.

Agh, Now I am doing it too, you made me laugh at a rather interesting post man, thanks....

Well all I hope is that the game gives us a real option to turn it off. I really dont like thise "blur" or "debth of field" in most games, because yeah, they are exagerating it, and it actually doesnt really help to make the game look "more realistic" or what ever.

50 min past. Now we have basis with mapping. In previous screen you can see that i prepare texture for texture bus.
02.jpg

Thanks all watchers and readers!

I'm sorry. I took the liberty to copy the bus is not accurate. It would be too boring. Model is over but here enable one "hint". Many of modelers made UVW-mapping after modeling. I always know what i do therefore I'm doing a UVW-mapping at the same time. In one moment of time. What i mean? I'm smoke, drink another cup of cofee and you see how happen mirracle of fast texturing.

On model with UVW mapping we take 108 min. And remember i'm bad speaker and writer on english... it's take a time too. Time to call Les Grossman. He help do not sleep. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPO6dOPxmr8

03.jpg

For base each model we often create map of shadow, this is a base of texture. Start point when texturer start work.

Base for texture.
05.jpg

Damn. Again, forget about time. And rather than go the way of the wonderful coach bus began to dig with texture. This real time shader with "fake" normal.

Done. 4 hours and 33 min.

Not the best of my object and texture ... frankly. But it seems like it is better than W2Buzzz. Maybe i wrong. In my opinion even this object needed something more. Something like a history. More story. More feelings. Charming details and etc. This is just a art technique.

And of course need normal vehicle design. If you put in sand or wasteland piece of rusty crap - it does not mean that you made good Fallout or good Wasteland. Beautiful pictures and images too... just images.

Here need really great artwork. With all parts of world. Need thinking. But... somebody skillfully preparing vinaigrette... meat, fish, onions, strawberries, sugar and salt, even watermelon go to in last battle.. but that's somebody forgets that Wastelands still has a soul. Poisoned by radiation but not poisoned by vinaigrette.

This is not irish ragu where cook throw in pot everything that can find.

This is excellent work Rick Lion
You should submit it to unity store. Who knows, InXile might enjoy
another variation of their bus model.

Well, I must admit that Rick Lion's artwork (especially maps) are much better than what I have seen in WL2. They do have story and life to them, one just needs to pen down the story while simply looking at these maps. Add a fog of war and it's a ready location.

Amazing.

Thanks egalor and Aguirre

Well. I can do it, but i don't. Why? Because Wasteland 2 be remind us else more vinaigrette than earlier. Why? I have a long answer for that. When Briand Fargo make decision use for Wasteland 2 crowdsourcing its been very wisdom decision. After collecting funds he can... m-m-m... focus on game and dont think about graphical game content, because Unity store have a many assets. Want make animation, tree, grass, shaders, SFX - all done, all you need is cash to buy this asset.

BUT... here you can see small underwater stone what can crash the boat. Really? -ask me you. Really. Seriously.

What distinguishes these products from others? They made by thousand people. If you take a code, or tech component - you dont care what exactly man do this part of job. Because you never seen code. You never seen "meat" behind game engine. Graphical game content it's face of organism. All gamers first look at graphical game content. Picture of game. Image of game. "Face" of game.

What happens if your lips do one man, eyes second, and hair third man? May be all be good. But maybe ten or more people been looks strange. Why? Because each of the parts of each man do different plastic surgeon.

If you buy something in Store you dont need buy something with a word "hm-m-m... well, looks good, i'll add this in my game". No. You must see - matches this object to another object in your game - and if it does not, necessary to rework this asset or object, modify to complete. Art Director watching for this. I worked as an art director before. It's a lot of work. A pile of documents. This production style of play. Art style. Where art style in the Wasteland? What exactly do art-director of Wasteland 2? Nothing. Because objects from game - different, because interface is horrible. Why? Because all of this compile from different details.

I can imagine that chaos of different cases can be used like a style. BUT. Even if you made chaos - you must create visual style of your game. Interface of Wasteland 2 looks like a something, which made by young padawan... which find parts of this in Goodle images. Oh... this shovel be good in my interface. Damn. It's a work of dream team?

Hell mother eyes, they will flood project. Drown it. They blow this game. And then... after... people will say ... "Who gave the money Brian Fargo? Me? I never do it's again."
I very glad that in Kickstarter started many different game projects. If Wasteland 2 is blow - Other games will save the direction and future of independent games.

Remember little question in one interview with Brian Fargo?
http://polygamia.pl/Polygamia/1,112...__The_golden_era_of_computer_RPGs_is_yet.html
What is going to happen if Wasteland 2 won't be successful? Is it going to have some impact on development of Torment: Tides of Numenara?
Ask yourself ... whence came all this? Why people asking about it? Someone is worried about the project which makes with dream team whith a living legend over the top all of this? Ha... Wasteland 2 save only one. Really good gameplay. Because all other direction already failed.

In one interview Brian Fargo says - i'm call people, form a team and give to people opportunity to work together. They do all it stuff. And well... Mark Morgan, Alan Pavlish, Michael A. Stackpole, Ken St. Andre and Liz Danforth... good names of the past. They make the games again. What if all this is just part of advertising (promo) company? I really love music of Mark Morgan (best post-nuclear music forever), i love concepts by Andree Wallin... but where this pictures in game? Who made other art-style?

You can love games and people. But love is blind. If someone legendary say you - give me cash and i'll return you legend. You believe. And i believe. First times. But...

...is it possible to do it again and again? Next time - I'm not believe. I have to check. So I did not participate in the campaign of new Torment. Becasuse first - Brian must prove that he can made good games and after all collect funds on next project.

Answer me. If Brian Fargo have not completed another game will say you - my team is free now (This was the case with Torment), I want cash for third game - you give your money to him? How deep is your love for the legends?

Well, even if WL2 fails as a game, I will consider my money as a thank you to the team for tons of fun I've had with WL1 back in the day. Anyway, I would never consider this a bad investment, because from the very start for me it was not an investment at all, but rather an emotional and somewhat irrational thing.

The only thing that worries me is if WL2 fails, this will severely undermine the idea of crowdfiunding (WL2 was one of the exemplary crowdfunding cases) and potentially cut the future budgets for decent indie developers.

The thing I will not regret, however, is that I made a late repayment for WL1 which was great for its epoch.

Let's wait for the finished game though (and a couple of months after, when the first patches/hotfixes arrive).

Rick Lion:
FIRST, WoW , really AWESOME stuff.Do you ever take on consignment work?

What happens if your lips do one man, eyes second, and hair third man? May be all be good. But maybe ten or more people been looks strange. Why? Because each of the parts of each man do different plastic surgeon.
I get this, too many hands in the soup. I think this principle can work within reason though in such a setting that is trying to make a "world" in and of itself. I mean look at all the different companies that make "similar" products that have completely different aesthetic, but like you said its the job of the art director to modify them all into something that resembles one singular style. I dig the style they have going so far, but also wouldn't mind a post-apoc game with only Rick Lion creating :D .

Sub-Human
Gotta agree with Surf Solar. If you look at JA2 and this, there seems to be a difference. One looks 'realistic' (as you can get with '99 graphics), the other is like a cartoon despite all that Unity can offer.
I've never played JA or JA2 but just looking at these, I can't understand what you mean, to me the JA2 stuff looks cartoony.

Well, the crowd isn't writing the story and all that other stuff. They just provide art assets. It's a part of the game, but not the only one.

Well, the crowd isn't writing the story and all that other stuff.

Aha... look at current interface. Look at all of this. Maybe better give this task for crowd? And if all of tasks can be made via crowd-of-something... why gamers need the developers? In order to write lyrics, and make "something out there"?

I'll surprise you. Usually developers do a lot of things for game. By self. Even they start game via Crowdfunding. Thus are born games. I see that those things that developers usually do by self - inXile can't do a normal. When release of game? October 2013? Hmmm...

Maybe i wrong developer? Maybe i must do texts and "someting somewhere". You give me a good idea.

How closely were you following the game or the Kickstarter announcements? You're showing plenty of negativity based on false impressions.

For starters, inXile did not crowdsource everything. Systems design, writing, area and level building, everything connected to actually making the game was made on their own. Unless you have some kind of insider information us mere mortals are not privy to, refrain from making baseless accusations. It's in your own interest, as your otherwise very informational and valuable posts are devalued by attacks on inXile.

Furthermore, you're (hopefully unintentionally) misrepresenting the Torment Kickstarter. Numenera was launched in order to avoid having to lay off writers and designers that would not be needed in the later parts of developing Wasteland 2. Instead of sacking them, they were moved onto a new project. Using this wise move as an excuse to attack inXile is just asinine.

Seriously. You clearly have some understanding of the development process, but you are behaving in a very asinine way. Criticism is okay. Blind bashing is not.

I agree the UI is not meeting it's potential. It is not flowing and connected, believable. The brown parts made me face palm...

Check the UI out on these games;

They all go 'I don't care if this takes up 1/6th of the screen, it is important and you need it.' The style they use is consistent with the game and doesn't fragment up. It feels like Wasteland 2 UI is trying to prevent blocking out most of the bottom screen, that's fine try it. But please try again with the UI. It needs LOVE.

Just my 2 English pence.

EDIT: I DO like the printer though, keep it. It does show they are capable of doing a better UI. Please keep trying Inxile!

Yup, I don't get it either. There's different style of border used for each of the UI parts, it doesn't make sense at all. White/grey message box, light brown for minimap, dark brown around the skill buttons, green portrait panel and rusted metal for weapon window. It looks to me like inXile is trying to make every piece of GUI as different from each others as possible. Such a mess! :?
