Weapons and armors

...10mm SMG...I gave Sulik one...
You gave a burst weapon to a companion? How many times did he kill you?

A few... That's why I still remember it.

When it comes to the Assault rifle. Come on guys. It's a damn Maxim! A WWI weapon! The divergence was supposed to happen in 1945, not 1918. By that time we would have proper assault rifles like the StG44 and a lot of SMGs that would do the job. The design of this weapon is just terrible from every possible standpoint.
It's ugly, it's clunky, it's unrealistic.

And when it comes to the Plasma Caster, well, it was a heavy weapon, probably meant as support, maybe even anti-tank alternative to a rocket launcher. A miniaturized plasma weapon? No. Laser weapons were the standard issue in the US army, nearly state-of-the-art weapons. Plasma was supposed to be the newest around, but still not fully developed. If they managed to miniaturize it this much, I think it would've been used by the military, and I don't remember it being mentioned.

There were plasma pistols around, though. Miniaturisation is not an issue. The plasma caster was apparently some sort of industrial device weaponised.

Ah, yes, forgot the plasma defender.

When it comes to the Plasma caster, the description says:
"The P94 is a bulky, industrial-grade energy caster powered by microfusion cells. The superheated plasma bolt forms in a special chamber, then sent down a superconducting barrel and stabilized by electromagnetic claws upon exiting it."

If it was a tool re-purposed as a weapon, then what kind of tool could it have been? Something to cut through steel or even tougher materials maybe?

Yeah, probably something like that. There are plasma torches already, so that would be a logical application.

Just looked at a nice picture of the Wattz 2000

Look at how easily modded this could be. A longer/shorter/different barrel, stock, a scope. The only problem I see is that it doesn't have a visible place you could place a MFC on the outside of the weapon, of which Bethesda seems to be so fond. But you could reload it like a normal rifle, inserting the cell from below, ahead of the trigger assembly.
I really miss this design. I really miss many of the original designs. I guess it has to be in part nostalgia, but still, to me they were just better. They made more sense to me and looked more fleshed out, like something an actual military would use. It got even worse in F4, with most weapons looking like scrap or lifted from a museum. And Laser musket? Really? By the way, I wonder how exactly it feeds the MFCs when you crank it...

I haven't been hugely bothered by any of the gun or armor designs, but, gosh... I've yet to see anything cool that screams "High Level Badass character" like New Vegas. I really miss stuff like the Desert Ranger armor or even the different stealth armors, at this point I'm starting to miss Joshua Graham's Outfit and the Courier duster, too. I just started feeling stuck in an endless loop of Pipe Pistol's with stupidly long names or Raider gear.

the assault rifle in this game weighs a few pounds below an m60 and the m1918 bar weighs a few pounds less or about the same

With the excuse of modding Bethesda is trying to get away with an underwhelming amount of clothes, armors and weapons. And most weapons/armors don´t even look that different when modded.

Game of the Year!

Yeah, it lacks the signature armour. It's supposed to be the T-60, but it looks just like the T-45, so... Meh. Not really all that new.

I might be wrong about that. But it seems that finding it is tied to your level, kinda like randomized loot. Would have been much better if it was similar to New Vegas, with a quest or something like that no clue. I always thought the Enclave-like PAs have been only post-war inventions limited to the Enclave, the game explains it as a design by the enclave, but does it really bother to explain how it ended up in Boston?

Yes, it's like every other power armour, tied to your level and spawns in set locations. Above level 30 it starts to appear in several locations.

I certainly agree. The game does seem to lack a signature armor. I suppose it's the T-60, but it's just a slightly redesigned T-45...really should have been a post war upgrade that the Brotherhood had to replace the T-45's or something. I'd be interested to know how the X-01 ended up in Boston as well.

is it just me or is the amount of different weapons and armor low and really kinda boring. its like they ignored every good thing about new vegas and 3. its all about looking good and feeling good and I just don't feel that with this game. like the American assault rifle in fallout 3 in my opinion looked so beautiful that to this i day still wanna buy a cetme rifle.it was mad cool seeing a m16 in newvegas. but now all we got is a freaking ww1 looking water cooled rifle, an early ww2 smg that marines used, and the tommy gun which looks cool but is kinda shit. then there is the armors not much choice with them and the power armor I was hoping for the cool enclave ones from fallout 3 maybe they could be really rare but no. I also remember reading that the t45d used a lot of power but the 51b didn't but that seems to be ignored. whatever... what do yall think?

For the most part I enjoy the art direction of Fallout 4 and that extends to the weapons and armors, however I think Fallout 3 did Raider armors better - they looked more like they were from Mad Max which I loved.

The Pipe guns in Fallout 4 look alright and show the kind of state the Commonwealth is in that people are making guns from rusty screws. Overall I'd say the weapons are good as well although I have yet to find a Plasma gun of any kind so I can't speak to that. New Vegas had a greater variety of weapons whereas Fallout 4 seems to have fewer weapons but more modifications for those weapons.

Some things are better, some things are worse.

I found a Gauss Rifle, and enjoy it a lot. My only negative is that the gun is ginormous (and mods make it almost as big as a freaking missile launcher) but using it is very fun. It does a lot of damage with single shots, but can also be charged to deal even more (as in, almost one-shot Deathclaws from stealth kind of ''more''). The kickback is nice, the sound is good, and the visuals work too, you can see the capacitors charging up as you hold down the trigger. It's also limited by using 2mm EC as its unique ammo, which is pretty rare.

I also bought a Plasma weapon at a vendor, and I like that it is heavily moddable. However, using it as a sniper weapon is not recommended; the projectile is big, and in classic Bethesda fashion if it hits any piece of terrain it stops dead. Good luck hitting an enemy hiding behind cover with that.

I also reiterate my love for the X-01. I have always loved the APA and seeing it fully realized in 3d, with glowing eyes to boot, is fun. Albeit I must say I also like the T-60, especially with the Brotherhood Paladin colors.

The Gauss rifle is OP and makes any other sniper rifle completely redundant.
It has the highest damage. (I have 350 dmg per shot, as opposed to around 120 for best possible laser sniper rifle upgrade)
It has surprisingly good rate of fire, it charges relatively quickly, it has a good size clip, can be suppressed and the ammo is not that rare, when every other vendor has it. It's just a bit expensive.

But it's butt-ugly and heavy. :<

You forgot the Crippling Extended Armour-peircing Rapid Heavy Silenced Assault Pipe Revolver Machine-gun Pistol With Quick-release Extended Drum Magazine Fusion Splitter

I'm pretty sure that's what it was called...

... it had like 12 damage and gave -1 to fucks given.

The Gauss rifle ... can be suppressed

But... but it's a magnetic weapon? it makes no firing noise?

The combat shotgun cosplaying as an submachine gun is pretty funny.

Bring back the H&K CAWS !!!!
