What Fallout 4 should've included

Conversely, not acknowledging history or player involvement is what happened in Fallout 4 where the Lone Wanderer's actions from 3 seem to not have any effect on the Capital Wasteland and the story mostly ignores his actions (except for his one act of defeating the Enclave but that probably would have happened even without the Lone Wanderer's presence since the Enclave were rather bone-headed in their approach).

I really wish they had included more Fallout 3 lore. It wouldn't have taken much to make me happy.

"The Lone Wanderer left the Brotherhood of Steel after Sarah Lyons death, citing conflicts with the Brotherhood's direction."

That's why the argument of nostalgia for New Vegas that you raised does not really work here.

What you call nostalgia is more accurately described as acknowledging continuity. Something that 4 lacks despite being a direct sequel to 3.

It seems weird that people are ignoring the rest of my statement for an offhand remark. New Vegas is notably my favorite of the Fallout games, followed by Fallout 3, then Fallout 2. I just wouldn't want the games to rely too heavily on 1 and 2 versus doing their own thing.

Albeit, I were to make Fallout 4, I would have probably deluged a bunch of references.

* The Lone Wanderer would have been referenced as having left the Brotherhood of Steel.
* The Pitt would have been referenced as being under the Lone Wanderer's rulership.
* There would have been a crashed Mothership Zeta UFO.
* I would say Elder Maxson has forbidden discussion of the Lone Wanderer but the archivists won't delete their accomplishments.
* I would have it revealed the Super Mutant Elder Maxson killed was Fawkes.
* I'd make it a quest to investigate Sarah Lyon's death (she'd died while scouting the Commonwealth in this version) and discover that she was assassinated by Brotherhood Knights.
* You'd be able to talk to a certain Doctor about the Lone Wanderer.
Stuff like that.

You did raise the idea that you think nostalgia pandering was something Obsidian did to sell the game and how it was not a good idea. The rest of us were clarifying or correcting you on what you meant by nostalgia pandering (or pointing out what Obsidian did right instead of mere 'nostalgia' as you called it).

Doing their own thing is not always a good idea if it means making gimmicks or creating discontinuity while ignoring established continuity. I'd rather that future games actually reference events from 1, 2 & New Vegas (or rather 2 and New Vegas since a future game would be far from 1 in a temporal way). Bethesda however should stay away from the West Coast regardless.

I'd rather that Mothership Zeta be a fever dream of the Lone Wanderer. The implications left by this DLC actually left the potential of harming established lore (i.e aliens causing the Great War which is something that should never have been suggested).

Eh, even if the aliens screwed with some radio signals, the Great War was well on its way to happening either way.

I do want there to be a Moon-base DLC where we discover the Zetans are a bunch of FEV experiments from Mariposa, though.

In 2, President Richardson mentions that the Chinese shot first though this cannot be verified. Regardless on who struck first, I'd prefer it if it was humanity that destroyed themselves rather than some extraterrestrial influence. The War would have happened but not because of bloody aliens.

And no shitty Vault-reskin either!

A big huge Moon-based city!

Maybe with Enclave soldiers on it too!

Yeah, the New Order. There were also a couple of books and far-out conspiracy theories about it.
Ah... thanks for the clarification. That does remind me that I need to get the New Order one of these days.

Okay, now I want to see this thanks to all your suggestions.

Invasion of the Moon Enclave!

Mysterious powered armor warriors are attacking the Commonwealth! Sent by their Faction to investigate, they discover that the Enclave has returned! Survivors of the Capital Wasteland's fiends have joined with their Pre-War CASA friends at Moonbase Alpha to wage war on the Commonwealth!

The Sole Survivor must discover a way to teleport himself up to the lunar surface but will he destroy the Enclave or join it? Experience the awesome fun of being an Enclave soldier and exterminating the mutants of the Wasteland. Infiltrate the organization which began the Great War and learn its secrets before betraying it or becoming its champion. There is a ticking clock until they begin their Death Ray's activation!

Contains:

* A fifth faction to join.
* Hellfire Power Armor and the new X0-2!
* New enemies in cyborg super mutants ("Horrigans"), sentient Deathclaws, and Moon Worms!
* The addition of Enclave building materials for Settlements
* A Zetan Companion, A romancable Enclave Companion, and a Eyebot Companion
* The return of Arcade Gannon

Firstly, Arcade has no business with the Enclave. He is a Remnant after all and could turn his back on the Enclave so it would require a lot of leaps in logic to even get him to a rocket to go there!
Secondly, no more lousy romances and the Enclave is DEAD. GET THAT NOTION IN YOUR HEAD!!!
Thirdly, Enclave tech would look a lot like some of the modern tech from the NCR. So it would still be pointless plus it would only add aesthetically different objects!
Fourth, Hellfire was a prototype by the East Coast Enclave so it would be available for mass production by other branches!
Fifth, there is no need for a faction tangentially related to the story. It would not even fit into the main story!
