What is your favorite TV show?

Archer, The Good Wife (I'm married, deal), GOT, Walking Dead, Parks and Rec, Justified.
 
Definitely Game of Thrones. I haven't yet watched another series with characters and stories as dynamic and well written.

Secondly I'm a big fan of Band of Brothers. We have a tradition to watch the dvd (now blu-ray) at least once a year.

I'm a classic Tom & Jerry man myself.

MST3K perfect late night stoner fare, although of declining quality as writers/voices gradually left.

TV mostly a wasteland of lowbrow pablum.
 
I have watched Game Of Thrones, Sons Of Anarchy, Dexter, Skins (Brittish), Lie To Me and Californication (yeah, I really had nothing to do), now I'm starting with "Vikings", which seems to be pretty fun. I didn't really watch TV for like four years or so.
 
I've recently started to watch Rectify, and I'm absolutely hooked. That, and I'm also revisiting Sister Wendy's Story of Painting and Grand Tour series.

Oh, and I'm also looking into getting a copy of Mongrels. Has anybody watched the series, perchance? Any thoughts?

I like American Dad too, I always thought it was better than Family Guy in every way (could never understand why that show got so much hype). Other than [as] though, I don't watch much T.V. If I'm not at work, I usually just sit around at home and do nothing.

Band of Brothers (still good although from what I've read Ambrose, who wrote the book the series was based on, liberally made up stuff and also stole from other writers)
The Pacific (Not as good as BoB but still pretty good)
 
I don't get time to watch much TV these days, and when I do, I have to fight two kids and a wife over what we are going to watch. I suppose if left to my own devices, I probably enjoy Top Gear and Doctor Who the most of what is on television at the moment. I also enjoyed 'Strike Back' on Cinemax.

In terms of what we watch as a family, I probably enjoy 'The Flash' the most, because my son is 5 and is all-in to the magic of superheroes. He watches it with the same intensity I watched the 1960s Batman series when I was 5, and I get a kick out of watching him get sucked into that world. We also watch 1970s 'Wonder Woman' together, which he and I enjoy on totally different levels.
 
Mystery Science Theater 3000, obviously.

I love a lot of shows mentioned, too. Breaking Bad sticks out. I enjoy house of cards but that probably has more to do with my like of Kevin Spacy than it being what I consider a great show. Oh, and squidbillies.
 
I guess I watch a lot of SportsCenter these days, though that program is certainly not in the same vein with what other people have been discussing.

A couple of years ago I got pretty heavily involved with Star Trek. I watched all the episodes of all the series (except for Enterprise, fuck Enterprise) because they were available on Netflix. Honestly, what killed my interest in the Star Trek universe was making the stupid decision to attend the convention in Boston. Just seeing that most of the actors are ordinary people/assholes removed the suspension of disbelief that I got while watching, and if anyone's watched the later seasons of DS9 and Voyager, you'll know that the overall quality of the shows decreased as time went on. Kind of a shame I guess, but hey, there's always SportsCenter.

As someone who grew up watching Star Trek and TNG as a child I've often considered that I didn't understand most of it at such a young age and that I should re-watch it someday. I also missed all the older series.

You bring up an interesting subject however on "meeting the actors in real life and not being able to think of them as the characters". That sounds terrible, but entirely plausible and yet who wouldn't want to meet the person who played a character you adore?

As hardly watch TV. I stopped watching TV during the mid 2000's when there was nothing on worth watching and my schedule only allowed me to enjoy things that I could do at anytime (like use the internet, play games, or read books). Since then plenty of great shows have come (I'm told by friends) and I own most of them on DVD in season sets, but I can't make the time to watch them. I especially need to watch MST3K which I discovered the only a year before it went off air and I watched only about one seasons worth. I currently own most of the volumes that have been released though.

I love TNG, I'm sorry you had that experience. It seems like a bummer, to break that meta-fourth-wall, if you will. I sincerely hope Patrick Stewart isn't counted and the assholes, he seems like a cool guy.

I discovered mst3k during the last few years of its run and syndication on sci-fi. My step-dad was an ass, but we'd both watch it in separate rooms and laugh historically at different jokes. It was weird but even though we weren't watching together it was one of our only bonding experiences. I'm not so sad to say that it ruined movies in general for me, but gave me a weird appreciation for the shittiest sci-fi you could imagine.

Hmmm, this beer seems to have made me forget my point. Meh, oh well.
 
How young where you when that happened? Because hating something because you realize the people are actors seems kind of stupid.

I was without my PC for 2 days recently, I had to watch Tv instead of watchign stuff online.... I caught an episode of The Walking Dead.... and then I remembered why I stopped watching tv, that was the literally "best" thing that was on for the whole hour.... and it sucked....

It was around five years ago, so I was 12 ish. Anyways, I suppose I'll elaborate what happened after the convention experience. While I was there, it dawned on me that most of the actors there didn't genuinely care about Star Trek/didn't seem at all engaged or excited about what was happening. Most actors either end up being rude, like Robert Beltran (Chakotay from Voyager) who gave somewhat "sassy" answers to many of the fans who asked questions, and it wasn't hard to see that he wasn't exactly engaged with what he was doing. And that makes sense, I mean, for how many years can you keep going to the same conventions, get asked the same questions etc. without it all just getting stale and repetitive? Hell, even when I went up to Michael Dorn to ask him about what it was like working with Interplay and Obsidian to be Frank Horrigan and Marcus, I was stopped by his agent who said I couldn't talk to him unless I payed $40 for an autograph. And if they weren't rude/unengaged, they were more or less just using their appearance at the convention as a way to promote their newest acting work or other projects. Anthony Montgommery (ensign Travis Mayweather from Enterprise) literally had to be dragged off the stage to make way for some Voyager cast members because he had gone on too long talking about why we should watch his new movie or buy his new kids book. Just seeing them that desperate is disappointing, its sad (for me anyway) when a Star Trek convention is your main way of promoting your new acting projects etc.

Anyways, I could go on and on about my experience there (and there were some cringeworthy moments, like when someone asked "Lt. Tuvok, will you join my Star Trek Online fleet?") but in essence, the great thing about the Star Trek TV shows are that they do a good job of building a fictional world and set of fictional characters that you grow attached to. If you don't want to disturb this suspension of disbelief (and/or be ripped off by the convention organizers because they charge a ton of money) skip the convention and just keep watching the shows, trust me, you're not missing out on anything
