Why is Skyrim so liked and what is there even to do?

I liked the comparison with an MMO. I spent more than 2000 hrs in WoW and enjoyed it much more than 30 hrs of Skyrim...

...Too bad I bought it on a sale about a month ago. And I've still yet to install the game. And that's for the better.

Combat is literally spamming things till they die. There is no method to it.
You forgot pausing the game and drinking a bunch of potions never mind how action games like Dark Souls and Monster Hunter add potion drinking animations.

Skyrim's worst aspect is unplayable, on average is bad, and mediocre at its best.

Skyrim is absolute trash and I hate it.

Either you'd a console-tard, and its the best "RPG" you can play on modern consoles, or you're a PC player who has never played Morrowind and uses 900 mods to 'fix' skyrim.
If you use mods to fix Skyrim then Skyrim is fixed. :) You don't need 900 mods. Just like 10 to 20. And I've played Morrowind. Who hasn't played Morrowind?

Try Elder Scrolls Online.

Disclaimer: I do not actually recommend trying Elder Scrolls Online. Buy a better game.

Yep, I heard that game is garbage.

I honestly haven't played Morrowind. ;(

Skyrim is flawed in many ways, damage mechanics, quests, even the player is garbage.

Modding them all out makes it another game, where you might as well pirate the damned thing, get the mods, and go "Its not skyrim, so its not illegal".

Well then on the bright side, you never had to deal with the Cliff Racers in Morrowind. There are plenty of mods for Skyrim that change the damage mechanics. What do mean by the player is garbage?

The player is the biggest mary sue ever in ES.

"You're the dragonborn, ergo you're the best thing since sliced bread"

Except unlike a mary sue like that chick from Starwars 7, everyone hates you.

Hey, that's the default position of a low Personality character in Morrowind right there!

Especially if you are a Khajit or Argonian.
Kahjiit and Argonians don't even have boots made for them! And can only wear open faced helms due to their face shape. Outrage! If it was today, you would see all the Skyrim players complain about how unfair it is for those races not to be able to wear everything! Discrimination!
In Morrowind it was already unfair, of course it was, but you didn't see many complain about it back then. I always played Kahjiit and I can tell that the race bonuses weren't enough for the race penalties.
I still played Kahjiit and loved it always even with the penalties and restrictions. Made the roleplay feel better.

I remember how my younger self got a shock when I realised that Argonians and Khajits can't equip closed helms or boots. It was quite different to what I was used to, having penalties for certain types of player characters.

Then Oblivion and Skyrim took that all away. "Choice and consequence, what's that?" I hear nu-Bethesda say.

I think there should have been special items for them though, boots are a staple of clothing which protects the onlythings keeping you moving.

Since this thread is going towards Oblivion and Morrowind, which one would you suggest playing first? And are there any graphical mod improvements? It's just that eh... Those models are a bit too edgy (especially the faces) and the lighting doesn't exist at all, it seems, but that's not as annoying as the models.

Ya, but

latest

Look at this thing. Does it look like it needs shoes? Hell, the scales on its feet are probably protection enough.

Morrowind, absolutely.

Oblivion has only slightly more depth than skyrim, and is overall far more generic than it, and honestly both of those things are saying something.

Morrowind is a genuinely good game.

Not sure about graphics mods tho, never even tried tbh.

Well, I suspect plenty here would suggest playing Morrowind first.

If not them then at least, I would heartily recommend Morrowind. The combat gameplay may take some getting used to but the setting, writing, and sense of progression outshines the negative aspects of the game.

As for graphical mods, you could google for mods like this: http://www.ornitocopter.net/morrowind-overhaul/. Or even find mod lists like this: http://btb2.free.fr/morrowind.html

The modding community for the game is quite extensive and rather long-lived so you could find an overall graphics overhaul like the one above or find specialized ones like the following: http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/3880/? and http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/42226/?.

You'll also need to find unofficial patches since Bethesda back then also did not do much patching as well though their situation during those times were more financially dire from what I've read.

EDIT: Tbh, I never used the graphic mods often. Only Better Bodies and Heads at most...
