Will Fallout 3 be remembered?

Will Fallout 3 be remembered in 10 years' time?

Yes, three will be remembered, and is remembered because of how much Bethesda really loves to push three as the main Fallout. Not only that, but it is remembered because of how much it changed in the lore, gameplay, and setting. The Capital Wasteland is bleak, dark, and unforgiving, but it a new location. The East Coast. Fallout has always been in the West Coast, and a new Fallout on the other side of the US that changed the lore and just about everything else will be remembered.

Also, three is remembered for either being terrible, or good. I have never seen a middle ground with people that have played it. Sure, it has its interesting things and such, but it was just so terrible with its completely linear story and lack of RPG elements in an RPG series. Yes, it was fun to play and this is my opinion after at least 400 hours and multiple plays. The DLC quests were great and I had fun with it. Fallout 3 will be, and still is, remembered.

(Yes I am fully aware this is a super old question but I wanted to give my opinion that would confirm that it is remembered, besides that it obviously still is with the release of 4 and its success).

Well, that's of course bad, but in turn you can remember Vegas like the first time you got a treatment for your hemorrhoids. That's of course more true with Fallout 3. But still.

I remember New Vegas like I remember doing the thing that resulted in my anal annihilation situation.

I didn't enjoy the story of Fallout 3 at all. I struggled to finish the game. The only part I can think of that I had fun was when i was capturing people and sending them to the slavers. Overall it was pretty boring and I doubt that I will play it again.

Remembered as the WORST Fallout Game of All(well, main ones and New Vegas at least)
Fallout 4 at least tried a little to not be so bad(even though it failed)
The Originals and 2 were great and New Vegas was good too

Option one is highly ambiguous; and could mean anything... but I suppose it does answer the question (one way or the other).

Well, wasn't there some kind of rumor that CD projekt red used Fallout 4 as example of how to not make an RPG? I don't even remember if it's true or just my imagination. But It would make a nice story, so much for sure.

A better question would be "will Fallout 3 be remembered by the OLD fans of the series?" The casuals, as i like to call them, see F3 as a great title with great critics. Go to Metacritic and tell me what you see, a 94 over a 100 maximum. Don't get me wrong, i think Fallout 3 is not bad, i think it could be BETTER. The main plot is not as enjoyable as F1 one was, and that was 11 years before, so... If you look back and see the Vault Dweller and the Chosen One, with great stories behind them, you will apreciate that Lone Wanderer's one is not as good. Some mechanic games were bad and maybe its not as RPG as F1 or F2 was. Although, i prefer it to FNV (i LOVE NV, but F3 was first in my heart) i think NV is better in all, but the Courier history doesn't seem so epic... So, the answer is "Yes, it would be remembered by classic fans". I don't know if it will be for being a bad sequel or what, but for sure F3 will stay in everybody's mind.

It's like asking "will you remember your father dying in a car crash?". Of course I'll 'member.

Hi /gamingcirclejerk.

Of course. Fallout 3 is a great game even though it is inferior to Fallout and Fallout 2 in many ways. But just because it's inferior to Fallout and Fallout 2 in many ways doesn't mean the game sucks. It just means Fallout and Fallout 2 just raised the bar way too fucking high. :)

"Note to self, do not make an RPG like Call Of Duty."
- CD Projekt

:P

Aren't they virtually simultaneous?
Probably a joke made in retrospect, but it is clear, either way, that they knew what they were doing, what real role-players wanted, and how to deliver, in every aspect. I haven't had such a serious role play sensation with a game in a very long time

What FO3 is good at... gets surpassed every six months by Bethesda and their competitors alike; while what Fallout 1 & 2 are good at has rarely been surpassed in the near twenty years since.

FO3 won't be remembered for what it was good at; while Fallout 1 & 2 are still remembered today for what they were good at; they have become the high-bar and the yardstick to measure by.
