Congrats to france, we made an error and they took the oportunity, they did one error and we didn't, fair and square victory, Zidane deserved this last final. We went much further in the competition than i thought possible prior to the WC start given all the problems we had at the time, and by sheer resilience we made it to the semis, i'm happy for the guys, Scolari is indeed terrific.
Now for the english, guys do grow up
Rooney made one mistake, like Beckham in 1998, but i'm glad this time the papers didn't went against him, the episode in 98 was excessive and a bit ridiculous, you weren't that good then. With Lampard and Gerrard this time you could have made a better result overall, but we beat you guys in 2004 and 2000, and you still weren't much better this time.
Don't go over the top with the excuses though, the same thing happened in Euro 2000 with Portugal and it was ridiculous and dangerous, it gives a sensation of impunity to the players that might turn sour in the long run, like we painfully saw at WC2002.
And will the Dutch get off their high horses? Portugal-Holland minute three, the dutch try to take Ronaldo from the game, minute seven, a
new and barbaric attempt knocks him out. The way Boulahrouz then proceed to tap a colleague in the shoulder and made a smile at him, like saying "we got this one" was shamefull, and more shamefull was the fact that it was van Basten that created the strategy. A coach that saw his carrer as a player to end because of foul play from the adversaries decides that is the best course of action for the game. Discusting.
The way he screamed at Heitinga to stop him from giving back the ball to the portuguese as he should, in the most crude display of lack of fair play in the entire tournament showed the litle man he is, and how pathetic the Dutch were. A real disapointement, in the last 10 official matches between the two countries Holland only won 1, in 1991, and it's not with "Canibals" that they are going to go anywhere.
Well looking back Argentina disapointed me, even with their Italian like tactics they should have gone further in the tournament, England could have made better too, and i'm not convinced Mclaren is the man for the job, but who knows...
Brazil played like in 1994, but with less preparation and players much more tired they couldn't prove in the pitch why they were favorites.
Good surprises were Ghana, although a defense in line at all times in 2006 is just weird, Germany, a few players aren't that good but showed stamina and resilience, a very brave group, and France of course.
Sunday will be a great match, and that's what is more important.
