Well, today's fireworks of incompetence from the Czech team was spectacular. (Except Čech, he did a lot to prevent things from getting even worse.) Looks like if I'm reading the tables right, the only way for us to advance now is for Italy to beat the US tonight.

(Czech Republic 0 - Ghana 2)

(It would have been 1-4, if off-side goals were included. It was a bizarre match.)

You're reading the tables wrong.

If the US beats Italy, it'll be 3-3-3-3 in scores, all equal rankings, and then if the Czechs beat Italy in the final round they'll go through, together with either the US or Ghana.

If Italy beats the US, it'll be 6-3-3-0 (IT, CZ, GH, US), meaning that even IF the Czechs beat Italy they might still no go through if their goal-numbers are less than Italy and Ghana if it beats the US.

Most open group yet!

Great. Looks like Italy's not gonna win. Against the US, no less. Oh well, it was fun to own some money for a while. No more betting for me.

Did you bet or are you just a silly fan?

Oh, and:

YES PREASE

Seriously, is this like the crap teams' world cup?
"Oh, all the good teams have gotten soft with overconfidence let's nazi train so we can beat them yay!"

I mean, the US... Please don't let them be good at a real sport, they're nationalistic enough as it is.

CNN said:
Islamic militiamen who have seized control of the capital fired guns in the air and cut electricity to makeshift cinemas to prevent Somalis from watching the World Cup, witnesses said, and some enraged residents were planning to hold a protest Sunday.

The Islamic Courts Union broke up gatherings to watch the soccer matches on Saturday, witnesses said. A strict interpretation of Islamic law often bans Western films and television as immoral.

"As soon as the Islamists took over the security of our city, we thought we would get freedom. But now they have been preventing us from watching the World Cup," said Adam Hashi-Ali, a teenager in Mogadishu.

The Islamists already denied that they had any intention of cutting World Cup games from beeing seen, still there were two or three killed in protests against the closing of the cinemas, since they were the only place for many Somalians to watch the games.

On more trivia, both Bocanegra from the USA team and Boa Morte from the Portuguese team play for Fulham, a premiership team, making it one of the football teams with weirder names in the world. In english BocaNegra means Black Mouth and Boa Morte means Good Death...

This was a great world Cup day, with the underdogs Ghana crushing the Czechs, wich was really surprising, not because of the excelent midfield from Ghana, but i thought the Czechs were uncapable of playing bad football...

Portugal Iran was a good match, with lots of attacking football, and Italy-USA was a tragical italian opera, an intense game with some weird things happening every ten minutes or so. Congrats for the americans, after this game i wish them all the luck, they deserve it.

I'm a silly fan, but not silly enough to risk my livelihood for it.

(Plus I have no livelihood to speak of, but you may act like you don't know that.)

My wife, the Brazilian, says that the US played wonderfully and she wishes the Brazilians showed that much enthusiasm. I take that as high praise.

Your wife doesn't understand football.

Soccer.

Whatever.

Seriously, once in a thousand years Italy gives you a chance of winning by going all crazy with a own goal - red card combo. The thing not to do is get TWO FUCKING RED CARDS.

You Americans got your shot at making up for Vietnam and Iraq and you blew it. GREAT GOING YOU GUYS OKAY

Bwahaha. I agree.

Brazil dissappointed heavily, yet again. Adriano and Ronaldo looked especially poor (although Ronaldo showed signs of improvement). Asutralia deserved at least a goal, if not more.

The USA sucked yesterday, as always, but the Italians put up a really poor show too. Meh.

And the most boring match so far: Japan - Croatia. Fuck.

I was pretty happy with the Aussie performance. Although we missed many good chances, so did Brasil. Our fans were great too. I hope Kewel doesn't get into trouble for his grumbling. Thanks Japan, leaving it for as to defeat the ancestors. Now back to study...

Yesterday was amazingly fucking YAWN. I've learned my lesson: I'm watching no more matches with either Brazil, France, or Japan. Boring mofo's.

No, it wasn't, because Asian teams generally play terrible football.

That's like saying the last EC was great because Greece actually made it that time.

Exactly, that's the whole point behind that WC being terrible.

That turkey/korea/japan nonsense wasn't even the worst part of it, what with Germany making it to the finals while playing horrendously awful.
