2008 US Elections

historically, this is a pretty big moment for this country as a social entity. as for what the difference the presidency holds? meh. probably not much from what McCain had to offer.

nothing could be worse than W though. indisputable. anyway, with McCain in the office...those Bushies'd still be in the House. and that'd be bad. real bad.

It's a fucking cult. They're cultists.
Oh come now, all supporters, particularly at rallies, are cultists no matter who they support.

So I just got back from an election party and I gotta say I am pretty drunk right now. I am SO jealous of the unity you Amerifags share. We Canadians, I mean... we were more interested in YOUR elections than OURS, is that fucked or is it just me? It looked to me like your entire county was out celebrating, on fire like everything was alive and incredible, the closest I've felt to that is St. Patrick's day in my good ol' hometown Montreal where the whole city is celebrating. I predict civil war.
Hahah, you celebrated more than I did. I had a glass of sparkling wine and... well yeah. You damn Canadians are just too damn good at partying.

It is! He's going to have sex with his wife for the first time in five years!

Yeah, the US finally caught up with Europe in electing someone other than a white Christian male, yehaw.

Obama's alright I guess, I still think Gravel was the best candidate this year (Kucinich seemed to have hit his head and knocked something loose since 2004). Still, seemed like a no brainer to me, especially once McCain (who sadly wasn't the McCain of 2000) picked Palin.

What I think will be interesting is seeing what happens to the republican party next election, if they do decide to side with Palin I think that it very well might split what's left of the party (last split was civil rights).

Certainly. But you have to admit, Obama has a very creepy edge to his campaign. Seeing his face everywhere is very much reminiscent of 1984. (Please don't think I'm crazy. This is just something it invokes, I don't think Obama is Big Brother or any nonsense.)

Obama isn't a man to these people (morons), but he's become some kind of God or Hero to many. He's not a politician, he's a fucking Greek Hero.

Ugh. I'm too tired.

I work in Harlem, my train stop is w125th and Malcolm X blvd. The walk to the Office is going to be interesting.

Yeah! I'm going to love to see my taxes raised. BTW I don't believe any word Obama says that I'm getting a tax cut. When Dems are giving tax cuts is when pigs start to fly and Fallout 4 goes back to it's old 2d roots.

I love it when people turn the election into a worship of money.

"HE'S A SOCIALIST!!!"

Thank you McCarthy.

I'll give you the hope posters being very much that way but Palin's supporters are far worse when it comes to being cultists and the USA chants are far too nationalistic for my blood. Palin's rallies with the "Kill him,"s and "Terrorist,"s along with all of the greatest nation (which both parties do and the label disgusts me, nationalism again), USA, and other bs brings the phrase "Zie heil!" to mind along with the whole McCarthyism/Red Scare. Unlike most American's, I have a reasonable grasp on history and it's lessons, particularly those of recent history, and have no intention of repeating those mistakes. The joys of an uneducated populace and electorate.

You'll only get a tax increase if you make more than a quarter million a year, at least with his current proposal. That said, a tax increase would be fine if it was for reasonable benefits such as nationalized health care, though such programs should start with taxes on businesses (doesn't effect those that already have healthcare [could potentially reduce costs from them]). The idea that taxes are bad is absurd, mismanagement of money is bad and the real problem.

Reminds me more of The Smiler from Transmetropolitan.

I already have like $120 a week taken away from me for federal income tax. Why is it my patriotic duty (According to Biden) that I need to pay someone else s medication for which im paying good insurance for my own. Also note universal health care is not a right!

You shouldn't do it for other people who don't pay taxes, but for a universal good, it doesn't hurt you that the money you're already paying goes to give a benefit for everyone in the society. You're paying for people's education but somehow that's not a problem? Unless of course you believe that that money should only go towards your own education and you live in a society of morons. Universal health care isn't a great evil that should concern you too much because you lose an extra 20 bucks a month. Granted that that 20 bucks can be used for something personally enjoyable, but you should also be thankful that that 20 dollars a month could prevent you from having a disease transmitted because Joe Schmuck can't afford insurance.

Well said. I wonder if that "why should I" attitude is exclusive to US.

On topic, I'm not as excited about Obama as most seem to be but he is a surprizing choice for the country that reelected Bush. I'm glad Americans are back to making sense and I'm glad McCain/Palin did not win.

Um no. When he lets the Bush tax cuts expire it will effect everyone. Especially if he does it early. Not to mention he's a politician and is prone to lying.
