2012 American Election (Presidential and otherwise)

The Vault Dweller

always looking for water.
I spent the last hour browsing the 4chan /pol/ board which is dedicated to being politically incorrect. Everyone's going crazy for good, bad, and ugly.

1. Obama is almost certain to win. Yay/Nay?

2. What will be the fallout (lol I automatically made the "f" uppercase at first) for the Republican party? Will they admit they didn't appeal to moderates and appeared too extremist? Will they accuse Gary Johnson supporters of being traitors? Will they blame Romney for being a bad candidate or themselves for selecting him?

3. Apparently a few states just legalized marijuana. I'll consider this a social experiment. I'm personally against any sort of drug use, but politically I believe everyone has the right to choose anything regardless of what I think. Could large increases in behavior related to drug abuse (driving under the influence, health problems, illegal behavior, etc.) get it overturned? Could we also see pretty much little to no effect on society save that money will be saved from not having to police it and possibly gain revenue from taxing it?

Interesting times.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Well, Republicans are going to need to change things up if they want to appeal to other people besides rich old white folks. Decriminalizing marijuana won't change a whole lot if the Federal laws stay the same. Obama won so I guess we will have to wait and see if his second term is better than the first, but I'm not getting my hopes up, that's for damn sure. This one was going to be bad for me regardless. Romney wanted to cut veterans benefits and Obama..well, I just don't like anything he has done so far. Killing Osama Bin Laden? Who cares? Another guy replaced him and they moved on. Hell, they made him out to be a martyr practically so where is the win on that one? Financially we would be screwed no matter what, but I still don't see how bailing out a bunch of fat cats on Wall Street was anything but a bad thing. Romney would have done the same if he was in Obama's position, so it doesn't really matter either way.

All we can do is hope for the best and prepare for the worst. The geopolitical climate may change a bit since Netanyahu was backing Romney, so we will have to see where Israel stands after this. Well, that is one thing I think Obama did right actually. He didn't let Israel try to push us into any dumbass conflict between Iran and Israel. I give him props for that at least. Plus he is pretty charismatic. I guess when it comes down to it, I prefer Obama over Bush, but would rather have Clinton.

Pretty much a return to pre-election status; Obama is president of a country divided in half ideologically, and with a hostile Congress not much will actually be done.

I think we were voting on whether or not we should have a gay senator. Also, Washington and Colorado are switching their economy over to the Funyun-and-Cheez-Whiz standard, if my understanding holds.

Romney seemed to be aching to start fights, especially with Iran, and I wasn't looking forward to that.

the last thing the US should do really is start another war.

Not with their current economy

Not with most of their troops still beeing in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Even the US can and will overstrain their resources and troops.

Anyway. I think to many people had to high hopes with Obama. Not that he did not promised a lot. But was anyone really believing that he could change much? Considering how many damage Bush did? And how much hostility there is against his politics.

If i were an american citizen (god forbid) i'd vote for Obama. Health care reform is the only thing that makes him shine in my eyes. It's staggering that a first world country privatized its health care system.

Don't know what the repercussions for the republican party will be, if any. There may be some internal restructurations but a refocus will not happen. They'll just try harder next time.

The decision to legalize marihuana is a step in the right direction. I know that it won't change anything if the federal dimension stays the same but at least it will start a discussion about the benefits of decriminalisation or entire legalizastion of that substance. As it stands now enforcing that law is destroying more lives than the side effects of consummation.

Last year in three high schools in Florida, several undercover police officers posed as students. The undercover cops went to classes, became Facebook friends and flirted with the other students. One 18-year-old honor student named Justin fell in love with an attractive 25-year-old undercover cop after spending weeks sharing stories about their lives, texting and flirting with each other.

One day she asked Justin if he smoked pot. Even though he didn't smoke marijuana, the love-struck teen promised to help find some for her. Every couple of days she would text him asking if he had the marijuana. Finally, Justin was able to get it to her. She tried to give him $25 for the marijuana and he said he didn't want the money -- he got it for her as a present.

A short while later, the police did a big sweep and arrest 31 students -- including Justin. Almost all were charged with selling a small amount of marijuana to the undercover cops. Now Justin has a felony hanging over his head.

Something is wrong with the legal system that allows this.

Unfortunately, we can't afford national healthcare because we're broke. Not enough people have jobs to pay the taxes it requires to cover everybody. For the first time welfare is now our top expense at over $1.2 trillion. The national debt doubled in 3 years under Obama compared to Bush's 8 is now closing in on $17 trillion. The cost for food and fuel and electricity bills has doubled at least once in the last 3 years. In January the average citizen will see a tax rate increase of $5,000 (the highest is over $5,600 for myself living in bankrupt Connecticut). Take home pay has remained the same or dropped. As for wars, Obama has spent three times as much money on Afghanistan compared to the previous 8 years under Bush. We now have troops deployed in a record 75 countries all around the world actively doing missions. The real unemployment rate is equivalent to the Great Depression. Instead of the infamous food lines of the 1930s we have a record number of 46 million people living on food stamps, a number that skyrocketed halfway through Obama's first term. So yeah, I don't have high hopes for the next four years.

Good news all around, living in DC during elections is great, the streets were filled at about 12:00am.

I'm just as happy that some really good people won congress seats. Tim Kaine, Tammy Baldwin, Tammy Duckworth, Elizabeth Warren. Total success.

Yup, we are screwed. Of course, we would have been just as screwed with a Romney win.

We are halfway down the slippery slope to Greece and our politicians will fiddle while we slide into free fall.

Which is exactly what we deserve for having such a stupid electorate...

If Romney had won we would still see hyper inflation. One way or another it's happening. Under Obama we're seeing more "monetary easing" where they print trillions of more dollars and inject it into the economy, making our currency worthless and driving the prices of everything up. Under Romney the trillions of dollars businesses are holding back would have injected into the economy and the same damn thing would happen. The only glimmer of hope we had was Romney has past experience dealing with similar problems on a much smaller scale and the Republican run House finally passed Ron Paul's call to audit the federal reserve. A Romney administration had the ability to blunt inflation. Instead the next four years will have the same government as the last four so everything will go unchecked and fall apart very quickly. And a 0% interest rate means nothing will stop inflation from going out of control anytime in the near future.

Thank to the people that vote for Obama.

Now we dont have to fear that US try to overthrow the presidents in latino america.

Being a chinese slave isnt the worst of all things.

so the us elected a president that:

1) failed on his promise to reduce the deficit and instead raised it more in 4 years than bush did in 8

2) failed to reduce the unemployment to 5% and instead it sits at 7.4% or 7.9%

3) raised taxes on the lower and middle class ( obama care ) for those who cannot afford private health insurance and do not get it from their company

4) successfully bailed out big business that crashed due to policies and laws passed primarily under clinton and not repealed

5) in 2002 while senator voted AGAINST a deficit cap increase ( it passed by 52-48 ) which is the largest thing keeping the US from declaring bankruptcy and insolvency which is where greece and spain are heading.

6) promised he would not run for a second term if he failed at 1, 2, 3, and 4

7) successfully killed osama bin laden by violating another soverign countries air space, but they hated us before so no big loss there eh? other than they hated us before and have been home to terrorists that have successfully striked US assets/people both home and abroad

Don't forget the part where we are currently dealing weapons to al Qaeda. That's why ambassador Stevens was in Libya with little to no protection and was killed (our first ambassador killed in over 30 years, by the way). The Obama administration is running guns from Libya, through Turkey to Syrian rebels who happen to be affiliated with al Qaeda and the Muslim brotherhood. All of this has been confirmed and the media ignores. If this had been a Republican president he would be forced to resign.

Or how about we stop meddling in foreign affairs and let the rest of the free world stop acting so complacent with their own security. Oh wait, everybody except China and Russia continuously downgrades their military to pay for the crumbling nannystate slacker lifestyle.
