How does she hold the real power?

 

The Commissioners and Bureaucrats might make a couple of laws now and then, but they don't make really important decisions about Europe's direction in the future and what happens in the EU like Merkel does. They are basically useless pen pushers. She makes all the major decisions.

It was Merkel's idea to let in the millions of refugees and migrants and her that made the decision to do it. Same with the austerity drive in other parts of Europe to deal with there debt, that was Merkel. Go do some of your own research to find out more.

 

Uh no, you havn't described what Merkel has done. All you're saying, it was her idea. Even if that is true - which I don't know - that still doesn't have to mean that it was in her power to make the decision alone. There have been many meetings, discussions, decrees and informations about it. And in the end, the EU decided.

Germany has a strong position in the European Union, but not even Germany could stand alone against France, UK, Spain, Italy etc. if they didn't wanted it.

So what have the other EU states done? Has Merkel threatend their leaders with the Bundeswehr? Has she used the German intelligence agency to preasure them in voting for yes? Or to support her course? I guess Merkel must have bullied them all! Probably behind closed doors. Show me one example where Merkel FORCED your politicans to agree with her.

Point is, the way how you describe it, it sounds like this is what happend to your politicans and your ellected leaders:

"Hitler Merkel made me do it! It's all her fault! I just followed orders."

Which is of course very convenient for your political parties and their leaders, who agreed to those deals in the first place, because when shit hits the fan, everyone can blame either the EU or Merkel.

Do you think France would follow if their politicans said no? Do you think the UK would follow? What about the rest of the European Union? I am not a friend of Merkel and her Politics. I don't really like her. But I wouldn't make her in to some kind of scape goat because my politicans can't get their shit together.

Don't blame Merkel for the corruption and idiot politicans that you have in your own nation and who agreed to those deals in the first place.

It's a Union. So I would say their member states. Some have more influence then othes. I won't denny that! What I am saying is, with an organisation that has what, 27 states? Merkel has neither the power nor the authority to do something that 27 states opose, deeply.

Why hasn't Greece touched the money of their wealthiest citizens yet? Where are their taxes? Merkel isn't the one telling Greece that they shouldn't start some SERIOUS reforms in their shitty tax system.

And always when I ask questions like, Where does Merkel rule over you? Where does the EU violate your souvereignity? Where does the EU violete YOUR PERSONAL RIGHTS? Do I get an clear answer or an clear example. No. Of course not.

What kind of Strawman? Just answer the damn question ... where has she a lot of power? It should be REALLY REALLY easy to find examples, no? Maybe Merkel is getting her point across so well, that the other national leaders that YOU ellected agree with her?

This is pretty much exactly what I am saying. Germany is the most economically powerful nation in the Union, and that matters a lot. Henceforth she has a position of power so she can push her specific agenda and shape the way the Union works and what it does. For example, Merkel sympathises with refugees, and wants to help them, so she let in millions of them in, and other EU countries followed her example.
Or with the Austerity thing, Angela Merkel believes that austerity is the best cure to chronic debt and economic problems, so she recommended the other leaders of countries implement it, and so they did.

There simply was no alternative to taking the refugees. They have been already on their way. At the borders. NOT taking them in would have lead to a crysis. So when you say, Merkel had the whip hand, it sounds like there was some alternative to taking in the refugees.
