Okay, perhaps I overemphasized the 'survival' part, but to me Fallout is about the wasteland, people trying to build up something, other people preying on them or using them, remnants of the past that hold promise of advanced technology or death traps, and the occasional bigger than life thing that could threaten everyone which often has a point of origin of some research before the War.

I like things like power armor, energy weapons, mutants. thinking computers, and robots, as long as that was the extend of it, not huge colonies in space or alien invaders.
Occasional space rocket is okay as long as it fits the main quest.

Fallout shifted focus from being a satirical game focusing on dark humor with some lighter gags (with all overt references being in special encounters) thrown in there to being an even balance (with overt references seeping into the main game [ex. Seymour the Plant]) or maybe even more gag focused. If you're suggesting that Fallout 2 may have been the jump the shark moment, you might have been right (Van Buren sounds like it would have been a step in the right direction so I can't really say for sure).

I would tend to agree, but the shift of focus remains the same, even if it's done in 50's camp style. That really doesn't make it less of a jump the shark moment, keep in mind that would mean that this entire DLC is a gag.

This in particular really fits their MO and what they've said in the past. It's 50's pulp based and I got the impression from statements in the past that they felt that was the main criteria for content fitting in a Fallout game.

I enjoyed playing the Ever Quest Norath games with three friends (basically the same thing as BG:DA from what I hear, right down the the engine), so FOBoS seems like would at least have some multiplayer fun value (which, considering the multiplayer action games, particularly ARPGs, for PS2, is sadly pretty good). That said, FOBoS sounds like it went further down stupid lane than Fallout 3 did.

Now the reason I keep mentioning a Simulator is that I would LOVE to play a retro version of X-Com within Fallout 3... 1950's style suburbs, fishbowl helmeted aliens and your squadmates getting blasted into piles of ash every time you make a mistake.

In other words I think Zeta would be best with the Operation Anchorage treatment, as a training simulation devised by paranoid scientists who expected an alien invasion. Putting you on an alien ship outright changes the games genre.

That is, unfortunately , not going to happen. Bethesda, who already turned the player into a demi-god by level 20 and a true GOD by level 30("almost perfect" perk, all SPECIAL stats go to 9) would not actually punish the player by now, like in X-Com. I mean, just imagine you getting 1 plasma rifle show, the 3 fatal wounds, some seconds later you're dead. Or, a blaster launcher(i love those) shot right in your buttocks that would be insta-kill.

It'd be a very forgiving X-COM though. Dying because you made a mistake causes frustration among gamers these days. I hoped this would be a simulation least some sort of drug induced fantasy, but I think this is going to be like a bad FPS.

FO in my opinion is more than anything (more than even the post-apocalypticality and general disorder of everything) about seeing the various natures of humanity, getting to see humanity at its worst, best, and inbetween. Self serving, for the greater good, greed, valor, and every other aspect of the human animal. A huge disaster like the great war serves to bring out the best and worst in people and the intrcasies of peoples agendas is where FO shines. Will this person betray me? Is this really the best thing for EVERYONE? Is it more important to do something good NOW that can cause problems later, or something that could take a long time to become useful to society and causes temporary suffering but in the end is better for them?

THis is what FO is about in my opinion. So aliens are a no-go.

Hmm.. more or less we’re expressing the same point of view by picking up different words.

Beth in their effort to have a mass market appeal & recognition have cheapened the fallout idea and altered the experience.
Instead of delving deeper into the fallout principles like intrigue story, meaningful C&C, witty dialogue, the no-one-is-good-or-bad approach etc, they choose to use the crust of it (gore, violence) trivializing the series even further.

    Now about the aliens DLC.
We have seen Orcs dressed like Super Mutants. So what’s next?
High Elves dressed as Vulcans?

I think a decent amount of Mudkips should do the trick...

I really don't know what to say anymore. And still there are people who judge me for moaning about Beth and "Fallout" 3.

    Haha great stuff man

I resent that phrase, being an inconditional Indy follower, who enjoyed equally (considering the context, and being much older now!) ALL the movies.

LOL! I remember that one! What a piece of sh*t! But somewhat fun, tho...

Sure, why not? If a WWII shooter can have zombie nazis, why not FO3!?

That would be a bit derivative, wouldn't it?

I hate you, had me envisioning X-Com made by Bethesda... it made me throw up my breakfast! Over my keyboard! You're mean...

Yeah, the DLC should add a new location: "The Crackhouse". You get in, smoke some funny thing or shoot up some syringe, and have wonderful adventures in marvelous realms! Then you get to wake up in your own vomit, with your pants down and a rubber fist emerging from your buttocks.

Redneck Rampage was a great game. Like Duke Nukem but with chickens with dynamite stuck up their cloakas instead of RPGs.

you should not make fun about it ... thinking about the new Star Trek movie ... and that you had a encounter with the Enterprise crew in Fallout (as some randoom encounter) ... Bethesda might see it one day as part of the game and canon ... argh ... hard times to coooome !

Thats the kind of music that fitts Fallout 3 trailers ... but in a bad way ...

The new Star Trek movie has made old Trekkies come to the same situation as the old Fallout fans with FO3.
Most of them hate the shift to a more action-oriented, fast paced and full of explosions movie.
Too much brawn, so little brain.

Also, turning away from canon- I mean who would have thought of Spock acting romantic, filed with emotions- disappointed a lot and made it difficult for the traditionalists to accept this new version.

But the new fans praised the movie, as usual. Seen any similarities there ? ;)

The new Star trek is a reboot for a new, hip generation. Hence why they pulled that alternate universe bullshit (Which clashes with ST canon based on First Contact :D), so they could just say "lalala, it's not the Star Trek you watched", letting them run rampant with theming things however they want.

So many things are just wrong in that film, but it's mindless and entertaining and that's what sells because that's what the majority wants.
