Bethesda E3 Showcase Tonight, Stream Links

You mean the awesome immortal dog from Falout 3 right? Right?

He isn't immortal in F3, but if he dies, you get another cute, brand-new Dogmeat waiting for you by the Vault 101 entrance! (if you have a proper perk)

Also, it's just "Dog" most of the time, but he was named "Dogmeat" in one cut. I guess the player gets to pick a name.

Well with how much HP that dumb dog in 3 gets per level up it's basically immortal. I once shot a Mini nuke at it and it survived.

Have you tried killing him with the nuclear blast spell you can cast when low on HP? (another perk grants you that)

He said that the ability to run mods on Xbox One will come to PS4 at some point after that too. Kind of important news to my friends who play Fallout on PS4. :P

I still would not expect it all to run exactly like on the PC. Probably only visual fluff, maybe not even stuff which improve the visuals to much. I am sure people will appreciate their hello kitty power armors and nude mods on the console though.

Honestly, the stuff presented today has lifted my opinions on the game.

It looks like it's gonna be a hell of a lot better than FO3, but not a real RPG like NV.

To me it seems like it'll be a very fun open-world game that's very entertaining in a "Switch off your brain and wander" way. It'll essentially be the Skyrim of Fallout (i.e better than Oblivion (Fallout 3) and fun to play, but not a real role playing game like Morrowind (NV))

The one thing I do really like a lot is the way they're handling Power Armor, it actually looks like they're trying to replicate the War Machines from the originals, rather than a shiny suit of armor. I also love the new Vault Suit design. The rest I'll have to wait and see.

I suppose New Vegas might be the best we will get. As far as RPG's go anyway.

Well, now that a random internet nobody has let me know they disagree with my conduct it looks like I'll finally have to reevaluate my entire life up until this point.

Looks like these announcements have brought out all the fallout 3 funboyz.

You guys always assume shit. At the risk of de-railing this thread more, let me explain.

I don't like Fallout 3. I am typical for NMA in that I regard it as a weak chapter made by incompetent developers from Bethesda. You, of course, decided to conveniently shove me into the category of "Fallout 3 funboy" to conveniently negate anything I would say.

However, I don't respect anyone- like you- who feels the need to shove in political agendas into every point they make. I think that's needless, especially on NMA, where we're trying to talk about the game, not listen to another one of your /v/ inspired diatribes against 'SJWs', "Tumblr", etc. We don't need that here. And I have personal objections to what your mindset is. So stop- it's needless, time-consuming, and ultimately stupid: you're trying to shove your intellectual ego into conversations where it doesn't fit. The result is pointless argument- like this one.

That being said, I am overall restrainedly optimistic for this next Fallout game.

I, for one, would like to thank you for the (cautious) optimism for Fallout 4. I think you and I have a similar view on Fallout 3 and probably 4. I've lurked these forums off and on, but haven't really bothered to post because anything along the lines of "Fallout 3 wasn't worse than Tactics or PoS" seems to get you branded as a 'fanboy' here. Which doesn't seem very productive.

The thing I like about the Fallout series the best is the lore and universe. Obviously the turn-based RPG freedom that Fallout was conceived as is a large plus, but a game in that universe that uses a different format (such as 3 and NV, or even Tactics) doesn't bother me personally. My main complaint with Tactics, when I first played it, was the complete disregard and piss it took over the storylines of Fallout 1 and 2- not the squad based gameplay.

Bethesda, I think, is *hated* unfairly for some. They brought the IP back from the dead, and instead of rebooting the IP they chose to keep the original games canon, declared Tactics and PoS void, and even set up their own thing (as flawed as it may be) on the other side of the United States so that it didn't clash with the originals. They didn't invalidate what was planned for Van Buren, and ultimately allowed New Vegas to exist as Obsidian wished.

Whether Fallout "4" (and I use that loosely) is a good RPG or not isn't a real concern for me because it looks like Bethesda is repeating what they did with "3": They're setting it in New England, which is far away from California and Nevada- the Brotherhood of Steel and Mutants that'll likely appear will probably be their own, as established in "3"- which is, again, separate from those in Fallout 1/2/NV. We will not likely be seeing anything other than the odd nod or reference to the older games' factions- what exactly happened in the war between the NCR and BoS will be left unwritten... to allow Van Buren's intended storyline to exist in limbo, or for Obsidian, or someone else, to flesh out.

Beth is doing their own take on Fallout games, and leaving the originals alone (for the most part). There's rumours of Obsidian making another Fallout game- which Beth probably won't have an issue with considering how well NV sold. There's even rumours of a Van Buren resurrection by Brian Fargo!

Fallout "4"- even if it throws out the skill system, castrates SPECIAL, ignores New Vegas' example of multiple choice and dark humour, throws in paid mods and creates some "Mass Effect meets Doom" game systemwill still:

- Leave the west coast alone
- Bring in new fans
- Generate a ton of money/interest in the IP
- Increase the chances of seeing another New Vegas or even a resurrected Van Buren/new Fargo Fallout

Those are all pluses in my book, even if it turns out that I don't enjoy Fallout "4".

And I don't dare yet hope, but maybe (just maybe) I'll enjoy 4 as well. Stranger things have happened, and Beth seems to have at least listened to the criticism about how the Capital Wasteland should have developed significantly over 200 years (The developing a 'settlement' did point out you need clean water and farms! afterall). They might have just taken note of how Obsidian did things too. Maybe.

My current set up on New Vegas looked better than FO4.
I suspect that as usual you exaggerate much..

Edit:
Hell, did you see The Willhaven mod by dragbody? http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/images/93720/?
It look infinity better then what I have seen with FO4. As for the hype, well... gimmicks that's way.
No, it is not. (perception>3)

Also speaking of gimmicks, in my experience any fool can load up Higher res textures, every release they popup like mushrooms after the rain... it takes far more to populate the world with extra detail, and no those images do not much what has been shown so far.

In other news- the airships are confirmed as BoS. Not certain they're midwestern but very likely.

Your kidding right? I have noticed there is at lest a dozen or so models and textures that Beth ripped from Fallout 3 and NV and just reskinned and added a higher poly count to. Five years my ass! If you want to be excited for this game then be my guest I won't stop you. Hell I wish I had your optimism. However, from what I've seen Beth is trying way too hard be like Bioware and like Bioware they are gutting a lot of what made an great RPG a RPG in order to appeal to the short attention spanned action crowd.
