Bethesda hunting down Fallout 3 leak

1.) This game will be awesome - even if it is "Oblivion with guns" (which is a glib statement that disregards a ton of other differences like, uhm, the whole world that it takes place in). I played Oblivion for a ton of hours, and I don't really like elves and magic and all that, but that same game in a post-apocalyptic urban setting sound just right. BUT- to clarify, it WILL BE AN AWESOME FALLOUT GAME!

2.) Quit ragging on Bethesda. They spend YEARS on a project of huge scope to bring it to you, for hours of enjoyment, so I think a few flaws can be overlooked. When was the last time you worked on a multi-million dollar project for years? (The ass groove in the couch doesn't count.)

3.) What if- and this is just crazy talk here- Bethesda leaked it themselves, on purpose? Doing it on the 360 is the perfect move - there's not that many modded boxes out there, relatively, and you generate some good hype and get a feel for the market (by how many leechers and seeders there are). Huh? Huh?

SO now stop being so glum and cheer up, y'all! Have some vitamin C, have a gun, get out there! Go on man!

Except they don't even want to release a demo. Roofles!

Okay, but if they just wanted to release some rumors out there, without an actual demo...just hype. Or maybe it's like that one South Park episode where Cartman gets an amusement park and then everyone wants in 'cause he won't let 'em?

And, also, what if Fallout 3, beside the stupid exploding cars (don't shoot them) and the nuke launcher (don't use it), has the most amazing, Fallout-y storyline ever? What if the complexity and intrigue round out the Fallout universe and make you go "Wow, man, that was amazing!"? If that happened to me, I would feel like I could enjoy playing it and still feel like I'm not cheating on Fallout. ( I kinda felt like I was cheating with Fallout 2, but it's like Fallout's older sister, and it doesn't seem like cheating when it's two sisters, you know?)

PS: Thanks for not censoring my opinion, I hate when moderators hate on people not agreeing. This ain't the USSR, bub!

Mmm.... Based on the spoilers- from the pirated videos- it doesn't. I've said this in another thread, but it all sounds like a badly written Silver Age Sci-Fi story, only with lots of violence and pointless cursing added in because it's "cool" and makes it "adult."

So, now that we have 1) official clips, 2) pirated videos (which, besides the fact that they *may* not be from the gold version, still have lots of moronic and non-Fallout elements...and let's be honest here: the game's gone gold; if that's not a gold version, it's close enough for horseshoes, as the old saying goes), and 3) Spoilers from the story, I think we're beyond wondering whether or not it's going to be a good story.

Whether or not you think it's a good story or not, however, is another matter entirely, and certainly not something about which I'll disabuse your notions.

Odds are the leak will impact Beth's sales of FO3.

I don't think it's a very big deal for them. Console piracy requires some work, and that really limits the scope of the problem. And it was inevitable anyway.

I'm a bit curious about this report. If they hadn't send out review discs, then where are the early reviews coming from? Maybe they sent out review discs in September and that's why we are getting some reviews from the foreign print mags?

Bethesda isn't your stepdad Earl trying to do the best he can in buying you that shiny red firetruck for your 7th birthday even though he has to slave all day in the coal mines. Since they are, you know, making the game to hopefully obtain our money, they will 'suffer' though our criticisms.

This is my favourite type of pro-Bethesda garbage argument.

If you don't like something, just ignore it!

Imagine being in a shitty movie, and clamping your ears and shutting your eyes every time something is going on that you think sucks.

I shouldn't have to self-censor the garbage out of Beth's games (which is why I stopped playing Oblivion). They should be able to make proper design decisions.

The Euro reviews that have come in, so far, are from reviewer's copies that were sent across the Atlantic. Apparently they're not the gold version- BN says that's industry standard, I personally don't know- but they are *legit* copies. Not boots, not stolen from... wherever those YouTube playthroughs came from.

Though why Bethsoft chose to send them relatively early, I don't know. Did they maybe not know that mail can get to Europe from the east coast within two weeks or so? I'm really not sure.

So no, these reviews are not from the limited time playthroughs. Most of those same magazines had features about doing those playthroughs about a month, month and a half ago.

.
It could also be that they (literaly or figurativly ) sat in Bethesdas offices playing the game before they were allowed to write up their "Preview" so when they were done playing the game someone from Beth was able to make sure the game reviewer did not pocket more than his rough draft of the game review. (their was a coment about that a while back from another game I was tracking at the time where the Reviewer admited that a couple of the Early reviews happend when they were allowed to play a copy of the game for a week but had to occasionaly call over to the next room to get them to reboot it when it bugged on them. They literaly were not allowed to be in the same room as the PC the game was played on.)

I....I....I love you!

*Lifts car with mighty might in effort to shove said love*

Platonic of course.

Maybe Ubisoft sent them out, not Beth?

How old are you? Do you still go to school? Ever had a job yet?

There's a thing called work ethics, you see. And the basis of it is: YOU DON'T MAKE MISTAKES. If I were to make mistakes on my job (accounting), my clients could get fines up to 11 000 euro, and I'd lose my job. If a soldier were to make mistakes, innocent people could lose their lives. If a doctor makes mistakes, the results can be terrible. If a bus driver makes a mistake, etc. etc. etc.

They (and incidentally, we) aren't paying those guys to deliver something with flaws. Especially when the flaws are as noticeable as this.

It's just bad work ethics, man. Inexcusable. It's sheer laziness, selfishness and, especially, a gigantic lack of respect for their customers.

And I find it absolutely amazing that a consumer - one that actually pays money for their crap-ass product - would actually defend them. What is wrong with you? Is your world view that skewed? You would actually DEFEND them? How in the name of God allmighty could that possibly in your own interest?

Do you think you're doing yourself a favour with that attitude? Do you think they actually care about you? Do you really feel the need to defend a faceless million-dollar company out of some warped sense of sympathy?

Good lord man. This is just sick. There really is something wrong with the gaming industry, and especially with the kids that buy their products.

Can you imagine someone buying a defunct car, a broken television or putrid food actually defending the vendor? Uck.

YEARS of work at something that they do best (at least they said so) and they can't do it properly

The thing is: it's an absolute bloody certainty they know about these flaws. They have people working there full-time, whose only job is to hunt down these things. They KNOW their product is broken, yet they don't fix it out of sheer lacklusterness.

Image that. Imagine a nuclear power plant engineer that knows there's a flaw in his system, and continuing on anyway. Imagine a pilot that knows one of his engines is faulty, but flying anyway. Imagine a prison ward that knows one of his doors doesn't lock properly, but not taking the effort to fix it. Imagine a music distributor that knows one of its CD's has a track that doesn't work, but releasing it anyway. Imagine a bank employee that knows a client can't pay its loan, but giving them money anyway (hehe).

For some fucked up reason, the game industry keeps getting away with this time and time again. Maybe it's because a lot of their consumers are kids that don't know how the fuck the world is supposed to work, or maybe it's because we're all fucking morons - but it's seriously bloody warped.

To be honest I don't think having a buggy game is nearly as serious as any of the defects you listed as examples.

Bethsoft do it because they can, I guess. If people didn't buy products with these flaws, Bethsoft would be forced to fix them.

I'm just hyperboling to make a point. It's how you get through to thick people.
