Bethesda planning a survival overhaul. Has hell frozen over?

No fast travel in a world filled with scaling, respawning enemies and absolutely no interesting locations. At least the vertibirds have got some sort of use before they crash and kill you.
The way the enemy scaling works in FO4 is that enemies level with you but are locked at what ever level you were when you visited their zone. With the small map and no fast travel most players will have set the enemies pretty low, and with no player level cap it's only a waiting game before the player is in no danger from anything in the game.

They could just make a rational consequence to sleep/saving--being ambushed. [i.e. like a chance upon waking/reload 5%-100% according to time spent sleeping and how stupid/hasty your decision on where to sleep was. So it would still register a save even if you're sleeping is interrupted and are waking to a 100% ambush and only sleep-saved because you have a life.] Given the irrational places you can sleep your sleeping bag should have stealth boy technology and look like something out of X-COM 2 Terror From The Deep

So run entire game on lv 1 and then you don't have to worry about any threat at all?

I didn't know that, my mistake. Then again, I have got only 70 hours total and I have never even finished it.

I was under impression everything scales with you but I guess I was wrong.

According to the discussion page on Steam with survival mode you are locked out of using any console commands. Guess players better hope they don't get stuck anywhere, lose their companions, or just basic BGS game fuckery.

I could be wrong but that was what I read somewhere.

I already bought the game and part of The Stupid Club, I'm not going to further turn this NMA forum into a banned tumblr blog of people cutting themselves and smearing their LCDs with blood over a Bethesda game. Saying something sucks the eleven thousandth time over a Bethesda game has a ring of something tiring and truistic to it.

That being said, indeed I can't use the everloving console. Thanks Bethesda! *slits wrists*

Beta's out? Huh, I don't see an update queued and I'm opted into the beta. In before UK doesn't get it till later.

And you can't use the console? Can you drop difficulty to Very Hard, use it, then bump back up? Or are they actually locking you to Survival if you choose it?

edit: Ok, so the pinned Steam topic says you can only opt-in once to deter difficulty switching. So yeah, no dice, I'll just mod my own difficulty in later. Honestly, what Beth have done with the new mode sounds godawfully tedious in any case. Overcompensating heh.

You can lower the difficulty but it gives you a prompt that you are converting the character and it will not be able to opt back into Survival. I guess this is why they say back up your saves.

Since I imagine it will edit all my saves, I'm not experimenting on this char and I'll start a new loser to test.

It's the new Survival beta, it shuts off access to the console.
Seriously? Are they like, completely oblivious to how incredibly buggy and unstable their games are? If you get stuck or something breaks you're fucked harder than a pedophile in a maximum security prison.

Edit: I think Survival also disables mods. That, or something broke.

Also as a "test", I started butchering my settlement, either Codsworth and robots become disadvantageous to have as companions because you can't stimpak them, or you get the prompt a companion is leaving you VERY VERY quickly if you don't come to their assistance (I wasn't very far.) Oddly the prompt is merely an asking you where to send them query--like you get to choose where they storm off to. I guess it's being presented as a tactical "wait for me there[" decision] or it just doesn't make sense. No fast travel is going to suck. I remember trying to send people places before and often it would only work properly with them actually being there if I used fast travel superfluously to reset the cell.

It disables both, which is to be expected for now. It's a beta patch that adds new features, all of which need testing both for balance and for bugs (at least as far as Beth ever bother testing either of those things), having mods and console commands enabled introduces elements Bethesda can't account for. I fully expect both features to be re-enabled when it's out of beta (also, you can probably just set bEnableConsole back to 1 in the ini for that feature to be reactivated).

Sounds absolutely dreadful, I guess I will wait for official release of the mode + creation kit + first opinions.

At least that I won't lose my cheated 259 lv character.

Nope, apparently disabling mods and the console "is a feature".

... lol, in which case yeah, Survival is pointless. Not putting up with level-locked perks and all the other idiocy just to play the game in a more tedious way. If the GECK releases before I'm utterly bored of the game (unlikely, I'm already pretty tired of it, though it's amusing seeing how awful the main questline gets now I'm finally bothering to do it) I'll tinker with it myself until I have something palatable.

mods apparently can work, or something. i think it's like some may need to be updated, and the save files not compatible. i avoid main plot. i know from youtube what happens, know that i do not want, and i seem to accumulate achievements if i touch main plotty shit which might be better left blank, like how somehow "most people who own fallout 4 never left the vault" became newsworthy, but iunno. iunno what they pay attn to. i just like wandering, which is like one thing the game does well, so survival could work if they want it to, but idk what they want.
