Bethesda's Fallout 3 forums opened

Well, at least it gives us a reason to call them Fallout haters and a chance that someone will educate themself.

Now I just have to say...I'm amazed that so many people are intermingling on the Bethesda forums that are older RPG fans of Fallout and younger RPG fans of Oblivion. I'd previously only seen them separated. I'm also finding it impossible, but true that most of them are acting very polite and speaking on subjects without flaming. In fact I find it so hard to believe I don't even want to mention it's going on since it fries my brain.

However one spectacular thing beyond even that has happened...it seems some of the console crowd that most likely have never tried older RPG's or PC RPG's are willing to give them a try regardless of growing up on console.

On the Bethesda forums there was one young console fan in particular called "ffmusicdj" which must stand for "final fantasy music d.j.". Obviously a fan of console RPG's. Yet he expressed general liking of Fallout and concern for how it's being treated.

Just today I saw that he became a member here as he posted in the "How did you find Fallout thread" and another thread in the Fallout Discussion section.

I'm amazed beyond belief. I always knew that the main reason there was so much hate between the respective groups is that most console fans have never tried PC RPG's and only play Japanese console RPG's whereas most PC RPG fans have tried and often do play console RPG's.

I'm really hoping that some others among the Oblivion crowd are as open-minded as he is. For the longest time weve understood and even respected both worlds of gaming, yet they've only touched one.

I'm really just feeling very optimistic and too surprised not to make a big deal out of this.

I was warned for flaming once... 25% It was a flame war, I joined in... Well, it was not really flame it was sarcasm and I view that has humor but... *shrugs*
I also had a post deleted as it indicated I wanted to be gay with a certain forum member... I guess those gay folk just have no place on Bethesda forums... Sad as it may be, I think if I would have indicated something heterosexual (such as merry me) and implied it to another man... I don't think the post would have been deleted. It was the whole "gay" factor.

Let's not, shall we? No cross-site trolling is allowed here, and boasting about the penalties you get at those forums certainly isn't.

That makes sense, i just want to point out that comments that are considered as jokes can get your ass kicked there. And that really seems weird to me.
That boasting is not boasting, it is intended to become a gallery of obscure warnings. ;) *joke warning!!!*
Maphusio made a similar experience with that board as you can read.

But still i think every human being should have fun in his life, so have fun again if you like no matter what Sander tells you! :D

Unless you want to get banned here as well, don't troll those boards. Simple as that.

It's more then "fun". Remember, that every post you make there is pretty much representative of us, the Fallout fans. Some people there are just waiting for a more relaxed or troll'ish post to jump right at it, point their finger and scream "see? just like i told you, they are ALL fucking rabid!".

Maintain a cool head, guys.

That being said, i'm more than surprised at the fact that some people have actually went to "our" side. There is a degree of hostility, but i think the pay-off of persuading a few people about how great the original Fallout games are is compensation enough. :)

Much like TVD, i'm optimistic about the situation too.

My point being is... I feal like I have to adhere to a certain uniformity that makes me feel violated in a sense.

Boasting, not sure who was doing that but it definitely was not Bunkermensch or myself.

Say Sander, I do not believe I have had the pleasure of seeing you post over there... Don't tell me you're fearing your mental prowess will earn you the stigma that we are all intent on preventing?

Not really. I have a tendency to stay out of debates that are half-filled with people who will argue that it's all a matter of taste anyway and we should buck up because it's evolushun and immershion.
I feel there are way too many people like that there, and then it becomes a case of who repeats their case most frequently.

Unfortunately, tru dat... I feel that if our presence is felt that perhaps we will get Fallout3 after all... It's a long shot Cinderella type story and naive to think this... But, it's all I have for the moment.

Edit: Gah, and I've been noticing threads just vanish *poof* no more. There was an interesting thread in regards to an article about the recent forums being opened at Bethesda... now gone.

This is kinda interesting.

I've registered on Bethesda's forums some time ago, when the TES forums became "Bethesda Game Studio Forums". I've been lurking around and answering the polls and so on, but I haven't posted anything, because the forum's too busy. There's too much activity for me to keep track. I don't have time for that.

But these are truly interesting times. I like what I see when I see the polls. I like what I see when I see what the people are talking about on Bethsoft's Fallout 3 forum.

I really have no idea what the developers are thinking about all this.

Actually, if they are going to fuck up Fallout 3, they are no longer only pissing on the coffee cup of Fallout fans. They are also pissing on their own cherry pie.

That one's biting us in the ass right now... all be it there may have been more than one instance of misquoting devs

lol what a wonderful graphic image I have conjured up... It's either the not sleeping since yesterday or the statement in itself but I'm confused.

I too have been impressed with the poll results. I did not expect them to support what I felt F3 should become.

So true...
On the other hand that makes sensible people that prefer knowledge over opinion and art over innovashun even more needed...

The worst thing in the Beth forums, is that people will not bother to read through older topics, or bother to read through the entire thread if it's somewhat lengthy.

I've read and posted there quite a bit now, and it can be so tiring when people have just laid out large arguments as to why turnbased can be good, only to have someone come in and completely ignore everything that's been said already.

So far, I think it's been working pretty well though. A lot of the Elder Scrolls people feel that the Fallout fans are way to confrontational and 'stuck in the past', but for the most part the Fallouters are the ones with strong arguments. Though there are a few from 'the other side' as well.

It will be really interesting to see what will happen to those forums if Beth uncovers a Fallout 3 that is unsatisfactory for the Fallout fanbase though. War, war never changes...

I agree here. It has the worsest moderation I've ever seen - it's the first time I see a forum, where not reading older topics is tolerated.

Sometimes I think that the best method of discussion there would be writing a few posts with arguments in notepad and then copy-pasting them into discussion :? .

Haha, I think you're on to something here. That's actually a pretty good idea.

Though if there's one thing I would like the moderators there to do, it's clean away the short, annoying posts that just serve as flamebait. Whether it's from the TES people or Fallouters, I would really like for them remove posts that are basically just 'Fallout must get with the times, 1st person is the obvious choice' or 'Oblivion was stupid, therefore Fallout 3 will be awful'.

It's like, there are reasons for both of these viewpoints (one of which I strongly disagree with :P ), so at least get those reasons in the posts so that a discussion can be carried out. To often does some random idiot post an 'offensive' comment, only to have someone else take the flamebait and de-rail the thread. The mods could really be better at removing those posts.
