Can DLCs save this one?

Well, it's official.

DLC's involve more minecraft settlement crap that modders used to do for free, and a 10 dollar DLC that adds more enemies for you to shooty shooty bang bang with your nonsensical enchanted weapons. Then a $25 "expansion" which probably amounts to a longer version of Cabot house.

So no, DLC's didn't save this one. Because they evidently thought the problem was that the game wasn't Borderlands-y enough and they needed to go deeper. Or, more likely, they think it's an amazing game to begin with.

Dragon Age 2 was less of a disappointment. I saw all of this coming the second I saw the dialogue wheel. A lot of NMA members don't like how Fallout 3 differed so much from the originals, well with Fallout 4 Bethesda has decided to throw Fallout 3 out the window as well. I really don't see how a Fallout 3 fan such as myself could NOT be disappointed with this stuff.

"Biggest landmass yet", but does the place have some sort of consistency or logic or maybe it's not "quantity over quality"? Oh who am I kidding, it sounds like they're trying to compete with The Witcher 3 having a bigger land mass than Skyrim or they're sticking with the philosophy "Bigger is better". Or maybe I'm looking into this too much.
I think you might be onto something here though. One philosophy I have always had is in what is not said speaking louder then what is said. New quests, new factions, but the focus is on the scale/size of the land mass. What people want is story and you don't need to spoil the story to get people excited about it. eg. "With a new world to explore full of mystery and many stories that will have you rethink the main game", or "with a beautifully written story that will capture your curiosity and haunt you as you venture through, Far Harbour." The focus is on size and possibly exploration, not on good writing.

The "new stories" they're talking about is the skeletons and teddy bears lying around, doing things like squatting over a toilet or rubbing up against another skeleton. Environmental "Storytelling".

Hm. The more we all talk about this the more I remember a quote from a good teacher I had. You can turn in a pile of shit and its still shit. You can put that shit on a silver plate and guess what. Its still shit.

You can't change shit because its shit. Moral of the millennial.

Bethesda's ability to tell stories entirely through the havok engine is unmatched. Do you think they will have a different models for the teddy bears in the new DLC? I am curious to what provocative positions they may be in. You know they really should add teddy bears and Skeletons to the Settlement crafting. How can I make a death match area while trying to figure out where my son is when my immersion is killed at the craftable cigar smoking teddy bears that are absent from my base.

Nothing better than sticking two teddy bears in the missionary position or doggystyle.
I think they'll add a few new enemy types in the Cold Far Harbor DLC and Arena DLC but as for the actual storytelling, I think it'll be nonexistent but on the upside it'll be good for killing everything without negotiation.

Thinking is overrated. I have limited amount of brain cells and I'll be damned if I am forced to use them. Hopefully it is chalk full of repetition too. Lets be honest here too, there was too many quests in Fallout 4 as it is, like what 70 I think, dialogue? scrap that shit, Give me a DLC that is a room of teddy bears gang-banging an occasional product placement to remind me its Fallout and another room that is vertical with just enemies.

Maybe Bethesda is speaking out to their audience by saying all the important things that make up a good game is dead weight.
So are one of those DLCs going to feature an eyepatch or was their budget spent on booze and hookers?

Just did a little calculation after going through the announcement page of the new DLCs again.
It mentioned that there will be $60 worth of DLC releases for Fallout 4.

Automatron will be $9.99. Way to much for what I feel is a 'customize' your own robot companion expansion, I don't think the new voices or robot designs are worth that.

Wasteland Workshop will be $4.99. Again much to expensive as the only additional gameplay features will be taming creatures and raiders and have them fight in your arena for no reason other than lulz. The rest of the DLC will be art and model assets.

I think the Automatron and Wasteland Workshop should be one package and even then I think it would not deserve the price of $10. Bethesda should remember that this will have to compete against modder made contain which most likely will be superior.

Far Harbor will be $24.99. That is quite steep and almost half what a person has to pay for Fallout 4 itself. It would at least have to have a campaign and quests that are at least half the size of the complete FO4 campaign but I don't think it will reach that. (if Bethesda started on Fallout 4 after Skyrim they would need more time to make a DLC half the size FO4)

(It has been a while since Fallout New Vegas but does anyone here remember how expensive the DLCs for that game were when they were newly released?)

Anyway that leaves $20 on DLC left. Either it will be more smaller ones similar to Automatron and Workshop, or a smaller campaign DLC.
I myself don't think Bethesda would make more DLC that would exceed the price of the Season Pass, they most likely would like people to pay any DLC releases that come after they have fulfilled their obligations to the people who bought the Season Pass.

To me it seems that the people who bought Fallout 4 and the Season Pass get even less worth their money that Fallout 3 with all its DLC.
There is barely any additional Single Player content other than cosmetic items and one Campaign DLC that sounds pretty underwhelming.
But to really compare I would have to know how big the Single Player DLCs for Skyrim one. Could anyone who played those tell me how long they were and how much content they provided?

Reading about the DLC plans, I find it interesting that they bumped it from the original plan of four or so to something like several. They are varied to say the least, and range from small to large. I get the feeling Bethesada have realized they made a huge mistake with how shallow Fallout 4 is, and are now scrambling to make as much content to be used as band aides for the bland main game. Here's stuff to do! I find the Harbor interesting, in that the choice of wording focused on choices mattering. I like that they are going to honor those that already paid for the season pass, to include all of the future DLCs. If any of these are worthwhile is still to be seen. I have little expectations; just give me some decent quests and stuff to play with. It's sad when that's the most I can hope for: Something decent. New Vegas's DLCs were varied and some better than others, but even the weakest offerings gave me pleasure, including just exploring new little hellholes. I'm going to hold my final judgement until everything is released and patched. And if, only then, I find it all a waste of money, Bethesada and me are going to part ways for good. There's plenty of indie games out there for me to play and enjoy.

The Creation Kit is probably going to be sold as DLC too, if they sell it. I have a feeling they might never release it considering that Skyrim's was released by now wasn't it?
They just don't want to have free mods outshine their crappy money grab DLC.
I can imagine the Bethesda fans now "But but the raised price accounts for quality DLC like they said, you should be thankful that you get DLCs like this.".

You don't have to imagine it, they are actually doing this right now. Gaaahhh. :wall:

If you want a Cthulhu Mythos RPG, make a damn full Cthulhu Mythos RPG instead of smuggling it into other games. Trust me Bethesda, there is plenty of interest in a good stand alone Cthulhu Mythos RPG.

I for one hope that Bethesda does not create or pen any fully-fledged Cthulhu Mythos RPG. It'll just be another Walking Simulator, but this time with skeletons littering a New England-ish setting for Advanced "Cthulhu Environmental Story Setting 2.0." Their "modern" RPGs are quite simply and unequivocally - pure shit (and not even really RPeeGees).

Could I have a link maybe? I feel a little masochistic right now.

I found a lot of them scattered through Reddit. Mostly the downvoted comments have replies along the same lines of stupidity, because people voice actual concerns for the DLC and obviously the best response is to tell them to fuck off and that Bethesda is a very good developer to even do this.

Here's one of the many, but I've already closed the tabs on some of the best ones. They're not hard to find, just look in various gaming forums and comments sections. Reddit isn't really a good source apart from the one I just linked because the comments are more along the line of skeptical and doubtful, actually thinking that Bethesda might not actually have quality on the way after all.

Guess the Redditors are actually evolving, will wonders never cease. But, just like with Overkill Software, they're going to give their money first and realise that the DLC content was shit second, and then it will be too late by then, as always.

Well I did not mean Bethesda should make a Cthulhu Mythos RPG, rather just don't smuggle references into Fallout other than as Easter Eggs.
Still it seems clear that some of the people in the development team have a big interest in Lovecraft, so perhaps they should transfer to a team or studio that works on such games instead.
