Can DLCs save this one?

A Cthulhu Mythos RPG sounds really good, damn it now you got me thinking about that now.
Heh the Silver Shroud quest made me realize that I really want a 30s Noir Pulp Hero game involving gangsters, foreign spies, mad scientists, and cultists ;)

It makes me wonder that for a game so full of potential, how does Fallout 4 manage to squander all of it?

Could I have a link maybe? I feel a little masochistic right now.
Go to the Bethsoft forums, it is just teeming with that stupidity. Those idiots are just thanking Godd Howard for the glorious gift that he has bestowed upon them.

If you are feeling brave here is a link to the thread that finally made me jump boat. LINK

Video games have so much potential. They really haven't scratched the surface of all they can do. It's depressing how samey so many games are when there are so many genres and pre-established ideas to play with.

An RPG in a pulp noir world of detectives, gangsters, femme fatales and corrupt police/bankers/politicians etc would be my idea of heaven.

Despite the fact that I liked New Vegas far more than I liked Fallout 3, what apart from the hardcore mode, iron sights and crafting system did it really add to the gameplay formula?
Ammo types, weapon modding, gambling, companion wheel, companion perks, reload benches, weapon repair kits, skill magazines (allowing a big temporary boost to a skill so you don't need to max your character in everything) and probably other stuff I can't remember.

Now about DLCs saving FO4, well the first two announced I will say definitely not. The Far Harbor one looks promising (in a way of not being a crap pack like the first two) but so did FO4 before it was released so we will have to see to know.

I love the way these 15 year old Bethesda fans pretend to be in their 40s and disregard any and all criticism by claiming "This generation is just spoiled, in my day we played pong on atari and loved it. Modern video games are so wonderful".

Well, I think it's hilarious, but at the same time....it sickens me.

How about writing that didn't make you feel nauseous, or laugh out loud? Quest design that sometimes offered more varitey than just a choice of obviously good and obviously evil? A living, breathing world to explore, instead of a theme park. The lack of feral ghouls (zombies) and super mutants (ogres) literally EVERYWHERE.

God, I hope Obsidian gets to make another Fallout.

Edit: In my New Vegas love orgy, I neglected to notice that the question asked was about gameplay. :P

There wasn't all that much different about the gameplay, aside from the minor things listed. The gameplay was never really the problem with Fallout 3, imo. So I suppose that if one looks at only gameplay when determining how much of an 'expansion' that NV was, then I can see why someone would say that.

I, personally, find that the difference in tone and writing really impacted how much I enjoyed the game, and changed the experience to such a degree that it did not feel very much like F3, despite the gameplay similarities. To each their own, though.....No ill will intended here. :)

Well those things are already facts specially around users here so I didn't even think of mentioning those because I assumed everyone knows about them, and I wasn't sure if they would fit what @ZigzagPX4 means by gameplay formula .

Yeah, my fault. Me stupid. I go bye bye now.

:)

I read some of Bethesda's forums and wanted to rant I think. Sorry.

I don't consider anyone stupid when they know what is good about FNV :lalala:.

Now about DLCs if FO4 is any indication and after I read the Far Harbor DLC description a bit more... I am not convinced this will be a good DLC, hopefully it will have good exploration but by what they say "Synths vs Children of the atom" sounds like another shallow plot that lacked creativity to even make new factions, which is the best about new DLCs... also...

"Become more powerful with new, higher-level armor and weapons. The choices are all yours."

I hope they optimise the difficulty of the game because you are pretty much a machine of mass destruction around level 30 (or even less) already on vanilla FO4.

Higher level armours? wait there will be better armours than the whatever X-01 PA now?

And there will be choices now?

You are not allowed to have a love orgy in or of New Vegas, there are no teddy bears. Why did Obsidian waste there time on making so many dynamic quests when they could have had teddy bears in compromising positions? Bears obviously like it many different ways, so I'm sure teddy bear love orgy will be in a broom closet in one of the office buildings with raiders in the newest DLC.

Naturally they will make a new power armor and shoe horn it in like the T-60. Maybe they will bring back the X-02 (the enclave PA in Fallout 3) and put it in the promotion pictures so the kids will want it.

This Far Harbor DLC is going to be an extension of Cabot House...I can just feel it coming.

I jokingly said there would be Dog Armor DLC...but now I am pretty sure we will see it in the same spirit as Oblivion Horse Armor.

I wouldn't be surprised if some suit makes the decision to kill the modding for Bethesda games in order to force paid mods.

The Bethesda forums were showing some people being disappointed that there are no new guns for popamole. I for one am disappointed in the lack of wacky crazy positioned teddy bears and skeletons. Skeletons are people too.

"There's a whale skeleton in this image, as well as what looks like a recently-killed carcass in the left corner of the picture. Maybe we'll see the ghoul whale in May."

LOL, when this is what your target audience wants....you know the bar is pretty low. I mean, I guess dead creatures become ghouls now? After shedding their skeletons? May as well make it canon, at this point.

Here's the image. https://bethesda.net/data/images/event/77/Fallout4_DLC_FarHarbor03.png

Fallout 4 fans generally are not immersed in Fallout like actual fans of the series. What they want is more aliens and they want the ghouls to be proper zombies and basically play Left 4 Deadborderlands. These are people who don't really play RPGs to begin with. To them, video games are not art, they're just shooty bang bang explodey "fun" and anything less is "inaccessible."

I'm sure we will see a Co-op mode to satisfy such people since Fallout is pretty much finished for RPG fans.

Well it's basically an offline MMO, all they have to do is stitch together the "online" part and it'll be an MMO or make a four person co-op just like Bored-erlands where you can have fun looting useless junk or kill groups of zombies, ogres, glorified oversized crabs, fuckbots, etc.
